Welcome to Arizona.
KotimainenKayttajanimi
Hah. Welcome to Finland. The darkness will fall at 5 pm and the sun will rise in February.
Elli0tti0
Winter is my favourite, love being up before the sun. Granted I'm in Queensland Australia and we're lucky if it drops to 10°C.
kkcaperaklove
DST makes ZERO sense in Alaska.
Fenris98
Esdog
Ahh we have just started daylight savings, so good
zorrorosso
Summer Down Under ?
HaikuSorrow
Yup! Looove it.
PWBoiler
Maybe I’m a vampire or something but I love nighttime and have no problem with it starting before dinner for part of the year.
PhailRaptor
As a night owl, this pleases me
iamthecomet
Gets dark at 4:30 where I am and I absolutely love it. I'm one of those people that gets depressed when it's sunny.
DevilDolly
Same! It literally gives me headaches and nausea, but googling just brings up sarcastic "vampire" remarks, so all I know is fuck sunlight ?
egm813
No. Ditch Standard Time. Keep DST. More sunlight, less SAD!
1PooNGooN3
I’m not changing my clock to the wrong time again, I’ll just be an hour late idgaf
makky0
Daylight savings is terrible, the extra hour of sun fades my curtains.
Ruik
Ah well. It's almost the dark half of the year. Dark when I go to work and dark by the time i leave work. Just in time for Winter.
Kaosminett
I feel that
pinklady1969
Over here in the UK we put our clocks forward 1 hour in March and 1 hour back in October it's a pain.
LyraTheLycan
No DST means our main method of measuring time is fucked. Solar is always better anyway
pennypoohbear
Are you kidding me? At noon today in Portland it was as dark as 7:00 p.m. at night. I love this place but geez!
bikergeek6249
5:00? more like 3:30 here in Boston. Ditch DST but put MA, NH, ME, and RI in Atlantic time (GMT -4).
Itsonporpoise
Change the batteries in your smoke alarms! At least that’s what I was always told at the start and end of daylight savings time
GigiDundas
I have smoke/CO2 alarms that you never change the batteries on. You just replace the unit after 10 years.
MutaPerse
Lets hope there is fucking snow this year and say there is no global warming.
thisisausernamelikeanyothersbutthisonesmellsweird
Ugh.. cold.. wet.. sucky weather.. for months. And have to get up an hour earlier..
bound4doom
Congress does have a bill submitted since 1-04-2021 to stop DST, it has been stuck though. H.R.69 - Sunshine Protection Act of 2021
It unfortunately stuck in the house for almost a year now while we deal with other BS from republicans.
Link to the bill https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/69 Hey Call your Representative
OddDash
It doesn't stop DST it makes it permanent, which I'd prefer. I'd also be happy if they let states choose to stay DST year round, H R. 214.
I would rather the whole country just do it. I grew up in Indiana, was a pain as everyone changed, I know Arizona, has issues as well.
Me too, but several states have passed permanent DST and can't follow through because only permanent ST is allowed. If we allow...
These States to stop changing away from DST it's likely the change propagate through the country and we would get what we want.
Idonotbelievewehavecompany
This is where I want Daylight Savings time to end....earlier dark is fucking awesome
bonetonelord
Absolutely the fuck not. I want to actually have some time in daylight to myself.
iwishjtmoneywasstillavailableitsmyoldvideogamemoniker
I'm into its removal, I don't care if its the spring or fall version.
Yesss! So many people hate that sentiment, but I feel so cozy and safe when the world is dark
Disagree. Means I have to walk to my apartment in the dark everynight, not safe at all.

Soon, what do you mean soon?
princessjassy
No, jobs and opening hours need to be flexible so that all people can work/live on their natural sleep schedules.
OlderWiser
One of the stupidest ideas to ever be put into place. And it can't be gotten rid of for some reason.
The reason is soccer moms, they're a stupidly loud minority. Every time it's suggested we get rid change they pitch a bitch about it.
svent
What makes it stupid? Just interested to hear what part causes you the most problems.
Billis75
Arizona doesn't do DST. I think Indiana too?
StuckInBetweeen
That's fair, but it's Arizona so that kind of kills the benefit.
I'm from Indiana. Yes we do except a small area in the Northwest.
I’m going to stop acknowledging it. Arizona and Hawaii don’t. Wouldn’t it make more sense to sleep in later, darker morning longer evening
Trollingstoned
...what do you think DST does ? It does exactly that.
To get darker morning, longer evening you have to get up earlier. That is what daylight savings is -- people collectively do that.
arttrysted
My work might not like it if I would stop acknowledging it. LMAO
Then why’d they break the clocks then??? Time seems to be working rn, the amount of day stays the same even if you move it around
PooPculture
There is literally zero reason to keep doing daylight savings time. It is 100% pointless and causes real problems
PastaJesus
You guys are getting sun until 5 pm?
LueTheMental
Only in winter. It’s 10pm in summer with DST.

In the UK it gets dark earlier than 4pm on the winter solstice ?
BungusAmungus
I remember working night shift while I was stationed in the UK. I forgot what daylight was like for awhile there.
GeraltsUnpaidIntern
In Seattle, the earliest sunset is around 4:15, and it starts getting dark at 3:00 pm. Wake up in the dark, outta work in the dark.
SwagicalYololord
The worst part is when you work in a basement/building with no windows.
localsurfer
Surprisingly, Seattle is further south than the UK.
New York and Madrid are on the same latitude.
Yeah, I think in the UK, the earliest sunset is like half an hour earlier than ours. We both get the rain, though lol
I know the feeling. One of my best friends is in the UK and we both hate it
Ah, but those long summer evenings are the payoff.
idk, I did field work in Yukon in the summer and just couldn't sleep for shit. Midnight sun ain't midnight fun

That's why we drink milk

Store bought is fine.
At which store do you buy your depression?
The store of life...or in my case Lowe's ??

Get one of those seasonal affective disorder lamps. Got one last winter and it really helped.
Jokes on you, some of us have that all year.
HonestbutSweetAboutIt
Turn it into something cosy, even tho its difficult af. Hygge, as we danes call it.
Hubb
Everyone should be taking Vit D by now anyway, completely easy way to help immune responce, cheap
Sankrew
There's such a thing as too much vitamin D. Don't blanket term vitamin advice. Try "if you're not pale as a ghost at more than 50 Latitude."
And even then, don't just rush into it.
Sayagain
I got one of those happy light thingies.
Lyzard
Goodbye bugs, humidity, and people driving windows down blasting bad music
Getting dark at 5pm instead of 9pm changes none of that along the swampy gulf coast.
MiniConradd
Look into seasonal affective disorder lamps. Otherwise known as light therapy
1337firewife
Yeah for less than $40 usd I got a therapy light and a big bottle if vitamin D. Cheap fix that has made a noticeable difference.
adrianontherocks
You haven’t had both those things this whole time? Lucky.
Dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirepus
Live in the PNW. Just found out I have a SEVERE vitamin D deficiency. Wondering if it’s why my mental health issues have been much worse.
Kehy
Very possible. My brother had pretty severe depression, and first line of treatment was vitamin D supplements, which worked
LoopStricken
I recently had a Vitamin D... supplement? Prescription? I feel utterly the same. Which is to say, depressed and anxious.
neospor1n
If you aren’t taking 10,000 units a day, you aren’t nearly as sad as me
I don't rightly recall how much it was, but it was a lot.
Yes, primary prescription dose is 10k once a week. I did that 3 times then did 2500, 5k, 10k before I got up to the normal range
DoggyMama4Life909
Me too my level was 4. LOL
Holy shit. Mine was ten. I thought that was bad.
Noevilgifs

I ended up also having multiple myeloma but at least I have a happy lamp and get super dosed with VD each week.
I’ve been in the single digits. Got diagnosed with MS soon after. Took 5 years but I’m now in the 90s so the are telling me to lower my dose
delciotto
Basically if you live in Canada or the northern US you should be taking a vitamin D supplement.
It does affect some people more than others. The more pigment your skin, the greater the possible benefit
yeah. I'm white as as ghost, but from october to march i literally don't see the sun due to my work so vitamin D supps are mandatory.
I'm a solid tan, confused as to why it doesn't bother me, but I get reverse SADs during summer. I might need it and not know it
