There's a Finnish company that injection molds guitars from a wood-plastic composite: www.flaxwood.com
Cheapmonk
Now let's smash it on stage
Archaon6044
Step 2: Draw the rest of the fucking owl
Mkezuul
vanelanjenkins
Fender it's gonna sue you for infringing on the Squier line.
monkeywelder
I have the largest air guitar collection in North America.
Coruxus
Don’t know if I love the design, but I can appreciate the effort and the resulting art
ElTitoMojito
I was thinking the same thing, that's super ugly
mostadequatebboy
Not for me. I didn’t like the relic look that was huge a few years ago either. Each to their own though!
dutoitroland31415
Awwwwwwsome
almightyblob
So nowadays if you wanna make something cool you just submerge stuff in epoxy and then form it into the desired shape.
SpoofyMcSpoof
Mmmmm...nougat.
compfreak530
EricAirheart
I am glad you chose that as the front. Better side. +1
lopeardgaloot
Congratulations that looks super nice, how much does weigh? I used to play a Dan Armstrong Bass it was acrylic weighed 10 lbs
HowAboutTheBSharps
Yuck
LokiShinigami
Now if this was made with that glow in the dark, neon blue/green epoxy....omg hit that nut button.
plasticpantherpescatarian
Now THIS is art. Not fucking dildo cock-canons
thatwoodguy
I got interested in making myself one. I got the guts from a guys old '68 Gibson and have a gorgeous piece of tiger strip mahogany
chemicalBagel
Call me crazy, but Driftwood-epoxy composite makes a terrible resonator and that's why it sounds like shit.
HeadJamistan
TeachAndChong
Totally - I like the appearance but this is definitely not the way to make a consistently reverberating tone. Will play absolutely terribly
nadeboy
Anyone else spot sea doggo at 8secs on 2nd video?
GodDamnGuy
I'm fucking impressed
JJ2078
+1 for the choice of a Telecaster.
GemsAreOutrageousTrulyTrulyTrulyOutrageous
"Oh great, another epoxy tab-" ... "OH SHIT!"
flarflarf
I expected to hate it but it actually looks real nice
BURNtheZEPPELIN
It does look very nice but I was hoping for it to be a clearish blue so it would look like water.
333HalfEvilPixie
Iguessthisismyjobnow
can we see the finished?
333HalfEvilPixie
CyborgMatador
Two guys in Buffalo just drowned trying to get a piece of driftwood.
ThisUsernameIsBananas
I made an invisible guitar. The sound is amazing but it’s really quiet.
zeroexistence
Only the smart ones can hear it.
333HalfEvilPixie
John Hughes at his finest.
TestMonkey101
Your fly is down...
TimTheEnchantersTwinBrotherJim
Holy shit I'm planning on building a bass and this is on the idea list for sure!
TanithRosenbaum
And then he went and founded Driftwood Mac.
LilandraNeramani
Linnywtf
A lot more epoxy and a lot less wood than I imagined.
TheHumanCentipanzer
At the end of the day its always less wood than you expected amirite?
Linnywtf
That's what my wife said
trpbritguy
Indeed.. More like an epoxy guitar with driftwood detail!
TheUglyGuy
Pretty cool, but that is a lot of epoxy!
mattsall
$100 worth at a guess. Dunno if that's reasonable for a guitar body or not
Tunisia
Guitars are so fucking cheap.
whithea
The epoxy he uses is about 175$ /4L, pretty sure a finished guitar is going to be closer to $1000 once it’s all said and done.
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Considering he could ~ double profit on the right project, yeah, it's worth it. Artists sell based on many variables; not just supplies.
khold90
Yeah, that sound is really not good... Guitars are made from wood for a reason.
TheUglyGuy
Won't make a bit of difference in an electric.
paleofuturism
electrical guitar company (aluminum) guitars sound amazing. the ampeg dan armstrong sounds amazing. danelectros/silvertones... all not wood.
unsignificantuser
On the other hand: this is not an aucoustic guitar, so the sound that the corpus produces isn' too important. I'm concerned about the weight
ImLukeSkywalkerImHereToRescueYou
That guitar is mostly bowling ball and a little wood.
LosPer
Not sure about the tonal quality of epoxy, either.
TheUglyGuy
Won't matter on an electric.
