It's a 4 seasons room, but I probably won't heat it in the winter. (Because money.)
I need some plant stands. I don't think my current wooden/plexiglass table will fit the aesthetics well.
This furniture is not staying. But I will be adding hanging chair or a hammock, and my cat's cat tree will be out here.
The new neighbors.

Cat is going to bed in heaven

Looks like a great place for a Peloton bike.

That is truly a nice Solarium. 12/10 would do a sit.
AshaDidIt
Put benches around the walls and dance!

I mean, I am no plant expert but I am however Scottish and could assist with...... whiskey and pointing.
at1mp
Would be amazing in a rainstorm!!
jbilly90
Holy shit. Best green house ever
SuperBekah86
Beautiful, your cat will love the views.
AbbeyHurtfew
It looks so nice! There are a bunch of nice blueberry varieties made for pots. I have mine in a raised bed as a little mini hedge.
AbbeyHurtfew
Jasmine or ferns would also look nice.
M4K3R
Consider plant stands that have wheels, makes everything super easy to move!\
Narcosneedsleep
Thank you! That's a great point. When I find some stands, if they don't have wheels I might take the effort to add some.
scrambledmeggsATX
Large bonsai tree in the middle. Trumpet vines on one side and then various antique boxes/suitcases for plant stands.
Narcosneedsleep
Those are some great ideas, thank you!
Indifferentpenguinisnotimpressed
That’s an incredible idea!
PhilKenSebban
Makes me wanna dance around it going "I am sixteen going on seventeen..."
LizardEnterprises
@OP They make container sized citrus and bananas. You'd need to pollinate them yourself (or open a window) but they're pretty and tasty.
Narcosneedsleep
Container citrus!? Omg. I love this idea.
LlamaFan
I have a lime tree in my sunroom. I have to heat in winter or all my plants will die and the window will frost.
LizardEnterprises
Go nuts :) https://www.starkbros.com/products/fruit-trees/citrus-trees
LizardEnterprises
I would avoid blueberries though. You can grow them in pots, but one wrong step and you'll stain that carpet forever.
Narcosneedsleep
I was thinking that most blueberries might be a but bushy, but you've now convinced me 100% to avoid them, thank you.
Rangermcclure
What's your fucking budget? Looks more expensive than my car
Narcosneedsleep
Well yes, my house budget is also higher than my car budget. But the kitchen is like 35 years old and falling apart, so it all balances out.
cvnk
I would nap the fuck out of that room on rainy Saturday afternoon.
DeadWhiteMale
I like your neighborhood
RealDal
In general I’m a pretty negative person, but this is fucking awesome/beautiful/genuinely exciting and I’m so happy for you. It looks great.
Narcosneedsleep
Thank you so much! My house budget actually wasn't very high, and I'm still trying to figure out how I was so lucky!

Orange and lemon plants in pots
Mariapia081586
I would not hang seating in that room.
LariCheltsy
This. Much this.
Narcosneedsleep
It won't be hung from the ceiling, only from appropriate stands, if that reassures you any.
byohzzrd
If you're in the US, contact your local State University Extension Office, the Master Gardeners would go batshit crazy to help with that.
TomClancysGoatRodeo
I have always wanted that. Well done!

How much did this run you? I might be looking to do something like this eventually
Narcosneedsleep
I bought it as part of a ~40 year old house, so I unfortunately can't give you a good estimate on price for just the room. :(
Narcosneedsleep
I hope you do make one though! I think the world needs more well-made solariums.
Frostycopper
Will the carpet be an issue with humidity?
Narcosneedsleep
It did have a bit of a smell when I first opened the room during the inspection, but it dissapated quickly. The house is like 40 years old &
Narcosneedsleep
the carpet isn't new, so it seems like it's worked okay so far.
Abhorrentscorn
This looks like it costs all the moneys.
Narcosneedsleep
Shockingly...no. It's farther than I wanted from work and family, but I got incredibly lucky. I'm still waiting to find out the catch.
kspice
What country, region?
Abhorrentscorn
This is very posh. Maybe it's haunted !
zanzaboonda
Reminds me of the library from the Haunted Mansion movie. So jealous. I've wanted one ever since that movie came out.
RTK4740
We can only hope. Maybe a whole family was murdered there!
Narcosneedsleep
The owner died and the kids are selling it, so maybe. That could be good, my cat could use some company during the day.
babycheesehead
I’ve been considering something similar. Can you share a rough idea of how much this cost?
RTK4740
.
Narcosneedsleep
I'm buying a house with the solarium, so I can't tell you how much it costs alone unfortunately. Some others I looked at with solariums/sun
Narcosneedsleep
rooms had some corners cut when adding them though, so the electric bills likely sucked, so make sure you've got a quality builder/engineer.

How far is farther than you wanted? I'm 15 minutes from work and that's pushing it for me.
MathDebater
oh you sweet summerchild
CraftyCait
I laughed a nice hearty chuckle. Thank you for that. Where I live, you're lucky if you have a 30 min commute. An hour is average.
practicallyperfect
As an Australian, I laughed too! We live two suburbs away from the CBD and my commute is 30 mins door to door on a tram ?
hissyhausfrau5772
Greetings fellow Melbournian!
emanneb61337
I'm very lucky and I know that. My SO was actually the one that threw a fit about finding something close to work. Our old place was 1/2
emanneb61337
Like 3 blocks from his job so getting him to consider something 15 minutes away was really difficult. 2/2
Narcosneedsleep
I'm currently like 22 minutes from work and it's ~18 from work and ~30 from family, so not too bad, but I prefer a commute to city living.
emanneb61337
What city?
Thatisnotmybaby69
I feel for you. I have a 3 minute commute. 15 minutes must feel like an eternity.
MasterPrime
I would suggest mostly edibles. Vertical strawberry towers, fresh herbs, maybe a camellia sinensis or two.
KevinTranNow
Weed. And meth vines
Rogahar
I thought you meant 'edibles' at first and was like 'okay i'm down but it seems an odd thing to decorate a room with'
squelched
same
TsubakiTragic
Camellia sinensis is the tea var and is not a great flowerer. I'd recommend C. sasanqua var 'Hiryu', 'Chansonette', or 'Mine-no-Yuki'.
Narcosneedsleep
Those are gorgeous! I think they'll be a bit big for the room, and I'm too far north to grow them outside, but I will keep them in mind!
TsubakiTragic
Just prune them small... I have Chansonette (2 of them) in a 12 inch hanging basket. Hiryu can also be trained with minimal effort.
Narcosneedsleep
I love the idea of vertical strawberry towers. Mmmmmm.
booksfearnails
If you're planning on bringing your cat in, make sure all the plants are cat friendly, lots of herbs etcetc are toxic, and cats love chewing
Andrizzle0159
Cannabis
MasterPrime
But also get insect repellent plants like chrysanthemums. If you're gonna have food you'll have bugs.
Narcosneedsleep
Oh that's such a good point, thank you! I hadn't even thought of that, nor did I know that crysanthemums repelled insects!
benegesserit
Just make sure you keep an eye on your cat, it’s toxic to kitties if they eat it (my cats are idiots and love chrysanthemums)
jBenson01
There are a lot of chrysanthemum based natural pest control products because they are neurotoxins for insects, but not harmful to birds
jBenson01
or mammals
