Fun fact, honey bee stings aren't supposed to be suicidal. It only happens on thick skinned creatures (like mammals). On other insects the barbed sting actually increases their ability to do damage instead.

I don’t think the stinging drones are the ones reproducing, so I don’t think it’s so contrary to natural selection. Maybe an OK analogy would be a lizard that can shed its tail to escape a predator? Sacrificing some cells/bees to save the parts producing the next generation is evolutionarily worth it. But I also didn’t think about bees stinging other animals.

It wouldn't actually, the worker bees don't make babies so if their life detters harm from the queens babies the actual amount of genes the bee propagated to the next generation is increased more than if the bee were to run away, life is just a vessel for genes to propagate and survive in.
