I walked into Duluth trading company's flagship store in Mount Horeb Wisconsin turn to my left and did a double-take when I looked behind the register!

I asked a woman working if I could get a closer look at it and she said absolutely!

She said the CEO of the company bought this tool box a few years ago. It's been on display in the store ever since.

The note that accompanied the toolbox.

A bunch of hand braces as an art installation. She asked if I like stools and I said absolutely, I'm a woodworker by hobby. She said you're really going to like the next room.

As I passed into the next room I looked at this display table and almost fell over again! I showed her how the dogs work in conjunction with the tail vise. She had no idea this was a woodworking bench and what it was worth.

Plumb bobs as a decorative divider.

This is what met me when I turn the corner and went into the next room. I'm pretty sure it's meant to embarrass everyone because I didn't know it one thing on that display board was!

Turns out they don't know what everything does either!

These next displays were all around the outside of the room.

If you're ever near Mount Horeb Wisconsin you should definitely stop in and check out the tool museum inside the Duluth Trading Company store on Main Street.

This is fantastic..thank you

Did you go to the Grumpy Troll while you were there? I love Wisconsin

Wisconsinite here can confirm

Wait, Duluth Trading Co.s flagship store is in Wisconsin instead of Duluth, MN? That doesn't make any sense to me

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The company expanded and relocated to southern Wisconsin in the ‘90s.

Wait the guys who sell fancy underwear?

For people who love old tools check out the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA. Beautiful old building, each room represents a different craft

When Ron Swanson gets all starstruck in the Chair Award episode, he's geeking out about Christian Becksvoort, the letter writer in the post

I didn't see any stools

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Right? I was told there would be stool...

Thank you so much OP! My father passed away a couple of years ago, and he hoarded tools (amongst other things). Some are hard to identify.

That bench makes me sad. That’s easyily 2-3k sitting there as a display stand. I would love to have a maple top roubo style

I bought an antique bench for $250 on Craigslist last year. Not perfect but lots of character

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very nice!! I built one out of pine a few years back no screws used. But to have one like in the picture wooo hot damn

As an amature wood worker still trying to set up a shop... I'm salivating.

My guess for No.3 on image #9 is a device for making upholstery or other heavy duty staples from thick straight wire. (??)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Paige said these are all dildos

they can be

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

number 3 might be a crimper for securing single use metal clips on stuff

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I was thinking that as well. That or some sort of wire tying utensil

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crimper, nut cracker

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My thought as well. My crimper for PEX line looks like this, just smaller.

I'm sorry. 1. Castrator? No thank you

7 years ago | Likes 231 Dislikes 2

Not to be confused with sheep castrator, which is totally different

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Closely related to the nut wrench family of tools.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

So you've already been castrated?

7 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Once was enough. Believe me

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Thsts the only one I knew for sure.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was the first thing I saw, immediately had to scroll back up and find it!

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

#23 I guessed right! What do I get?.....Wha.. what's that rubber band for?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Upvoting to give love to Mt Horeb! Cute little town, love the trolls.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

But Duluth is in Minnesota, why we get no love? You cheese monkies already got the Packers

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

One time a guy at the MSP airport tried to tell me cheese curds were a Minnesotan delicacy. We sell cheese in my Wisconsin city’s airport.

Strangely enough, that is my hometown! I grew up by Cody street in West Duluth. Went to the original MacArthur before they tore it down.

I now live in MI, I have relatives who live in Mt Horeb.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

amazing. And the first one on #9 is of course, the castrator... in the lower right corner.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#3 is a chain link stretcher.

I've actually seen the Studley Toolchest in person! It was at a hand woodworking show in Anamosa, Iowa three years ago. So very impressive.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Studley indeed.

The dad gene is strong in this one

7 years ago | Likes 351 Dislikes 2

Yeah this is neat but I kept reading the papers and stuff looking for what made him "about fall over " then it dawned on me "oh hes a dad"

People talk about good things and call it "something porn", but this, this is on a whole new level. This is passion of the highest order.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I love your excitement, and also the fact that I've been there and therefore sure this is the most excited anyone in Mt Horeb has ever been.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Live an hour from there, will check it out. Thanks for sharing. Also, grumpy troll has good beer and great food!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#42 is what homer Simpson uses in the beginning credits to hold the nuclear green looking thing. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live 15 mins from this store and go there far too often!! That tool box is legit!!

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I'm in Verona!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well we should obviously be best friends then!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also live in Maine! Ever been to Moody's diner?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is in Wisconsin not Maine...though I have been there a bunch never heard of Moody’s!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, thought he meant the neilson location: https://www.lie-nielsen.com/article/visit-our-showroom My bad

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The 3rd item in #9 is a pair of bolt cutters minus the blades. They're a pair of mechanical advantage handles that minus the tool.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Check out the trolls too!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And most importantly: The Grumpy Troll for yummy food and beer!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Maine and often drive by their workshop in Warren. My dad is also an absolute woodworking nut and loves their stuff! Nice post!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also a Mainer! There are dozens of us, dozens!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, Duluth trading co. The home of $35 underwear for men. Love em.

I've seen those Buck Naked commercials...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're worth it. (Well they're worth even more when their on sale)

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I prefer jockeys. The buck naked sticking seems to fall apart after a couple months. No, not wearing it for months straight.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just one day a week, with one wash per week.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh I wear the boxer briefs normally, but if I'm doing alot of exercise or walking I have a couple of pairs of the "armchillo" game changer

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really wanted the armachillos to work, but the build quality just isn't there. Tried multiple pairs to make sure it wasn't just a fluke.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work construction and am out in the heat all the time, so I'm always looking for that little bit better. I do like Duluth pants tho.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This might sound weird, but you could be wearing the wrong size. (Or you could be unlucky and your size is Midway between 2 sizes.)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To anyone on the coasts, this is about as exciting as things get in the midwest, tool museums, mining museums, car museums

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

as a coastal elitist, that's pretty dang cool

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We also have the NHL hall of fame, and the Mall of America. Also Mount Rushmore.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The town I live in has a mining museum!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Have you ever been to the Soudan underground mine in Minnesota? It's really cool, there used to be a MINOS neutrino detector there too.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That was the first thing I thought of when i saw this tool museum, it reminded me of something my uncle would geek out over like the mine.
