It started with posters posting something that looked interesting, and eventually a rando commenter would post about where to find it....and people caught on quickly that it was just a spam account directing people to a badware website.

People selling off their old accounts with tons of points for the bots to appear genuine, or people setting up bot accounts by reposting shit from the front page over and over to farm points to appear "legit". And under every single one of those, you can be sure there's several product links, usually disguised as "That's so cool. Here's the source if you want one." Like I said, I don't give a fuck. Downvote and report it is. No exceptions.
And if you need examples, just browse the web. I used to moderate on reddit and it's the same thing over there. Bot accounts hijacking popular replies and then either copying it word for word, or with a slight alteration. You can track them pretty easily. You could even chat with a bot and not realize it. Vastly different from ChatGPT, as those were trained based on real conversations.
