Gaelic for "free", Saor are a Scottish folk/black metal project that's worth a listen. Mighty guitar lines and fast chaotic drums blend surprisingly well with traditional folk instruments.

Ethereal Shroud
The name say's it all. Dark, doomy, gloomy, black metal laden with keyboards and triumphant guitars. Settle in though, their songs are usually about 20 minutes long.

Ghost bath
Not for the faint of heart. As far as I can tell, Ghost bath doesn't have any lyrics, the vocalist simply howls as if being tortured. They get a lot of hate for this, but I find it wonderfully expressive. But I understand it's not for everyone. Other than that, it's pretty standard depressive black metal. Tremolo picking and blast beats give way to soaring melodies.

Hoth
Blackened death metal madness. This is my favorite record on this list. Thrashy, frantic, buzz saw guitars with epic classical guitar passages in between. Also, the entire record is about Anakin Skywalkers transition into Darth vader, but with no dead giveaways in the lyrics. I think it's quite brilliant.

I just discovered these guys yesterday and yet this list seems incomplete without them. Straight old school doom metal. It's simple, epic, and just fucking rocks. Think if Black Sabbath tuned their guitars to drop Z.

They call it blackgaze. Supposed to be a blend of black metal and shoegaze. Never heard of shoegaze before but I still really enjoy these guys. It's definitely got a lot of black metal elements. But they are heavy on the guitar effects (trippy delay, reverb, and the like) That and their music is not always minor key, and they're lyrics aren't always the tired old death, madness, depression, and satan rhetoric. A very interesting blend indeed.

Introduction to that for me was In Flames. Still my absolute favorite metal band of all time. Saw them live in 2010 i think, amazing.
