ThePickle
Navy also has airmen, firemen and constructionmen
TheTealOne

TheGrinchStoleYourShit
I'm a Seaman Apprentice........yipeee.....
ozeBuDDha
Sgt. Major Dickerson: What does three up and three down mean to you, airman? Adrian Cronauer: End of an inning?
magagamr3
So the pot leaf in mw3 isn't an actual rank in the military? Huh...
MyNamesMace
So is Commander Shephard relatively low in Mass Effect?
6Gawd
E4Mafia. +1. Better to die a hero than live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Pokeflutes
Thanks! You helped me figure out something I was wondering about on an episode of Stargate tonight.
ZamboniJones
Navy ranks fucking dont make sense!!!! Fuck! Im active army on a navy reserve base. Fuckin hate their system. Rant over.
JubjubTrashbot
Bit where the guck does mommy rank? She feels left out!
Grimz00
But where is master prestige?
IHateYourHappines
Fun fact. Army anything with Sgt in it can be called Sgt. Marine Corps Sgt SSgt GySgt etc...god help you if you just call them Sgt
KILRbuny
Where's the prestige mode insignia?
KharnApproves
Terminal lance reference?
SenorbenTheNonSpanishSpanishBandit
I love the difference between Army captain and Navy captain. Army: Dime a dozen. Navy: I command a freaking war ship.
JustAnotherPOG
Whenever we were supporting a Navy mission, we begged our CO to answer the phone. It was always hilarious to hear some poor bastard stutter.
Jpapas
"We reached sergeant and there's still a ton of space left in the chart" "I dunno, man, just make up some more sergeants or sth"
ohidksomethingfunny
Dafuq navy, get with the program
6Gawd
We just let them play military. They are all toddlers in tiaras.
cogs
Mind your manners, or I'll sic a Marine on ya'.
AsstRegMagician
"Oohrah Yut Yut rah devil dog."- marine probably
WingmanNZ
US ranks are farked. Our rank structure is simple
WingmanNZ
NZ. Our ranks are british by design
cogs
Don't blame us, we inherited them from the Brits.
Daddyslittleupvotewhore
What's yours?
ld3514
Navy/FG has easiest ranks to memorize. All other branches are wicked and confusing.
ld3514
CG*
mikemill
Except, E1-E6 don't actually use the rank names, they use the rating names.
AdamGilbert
Lance criminal checking in
KharnApproves
Former lance coconut here. Just got selected for O3. I'll always be a lance at heart.
AdamGilbert

KevSan
Where's the global elite rank?
ButtholeMarsBarDispenser
So what you're telling me is John-117 was in the Navy or Coast Guard.

"Sergeant Sergeant Master Sergeant Most Highly Important Shooter Person."
TheRockInAHat
Which one yells at the junior enlisted for walking on the grass?
6Gawd
ONLY a CSM would take the time.
Karbouno
Probably a stupid question, but how does enlisted compare to officer? Like is E9 lower than the first officer rank? If not, how does it work
Karbouno
Cause a lot of the enlisted titles sound cooler than some of the officer titles.
Karbouno
I get that an officer 1 could be as green as just out of collage and an E9 is going to be a very experienced vet but does that mean E>O?
ohidksomethingfunny
Literally: a 20 y.o. O-1 outranks an E9. But only a dumbass LT would treat him as anything other than a superior
6Gawd
0-3s would stand at parade rest to my CSM (E9). I believe that only happens in Infantry land .
Daddyslittleupvotewhore
Officially the lowest officer outranks the highest enlisted but there is a huge gap in experience. The junior officers are expected to 1/?
Daddyslittleupvotewhore
consult with the senior enlisted. The junior officers have a senior enlisted assigned directly under them that run the unit and mentor them.
Daddyslittleupvotewhore
I am simplifying this far more than I feel I probably should be though.
AsstRegMagician
Nah mate. Nail on the head. My senior is my lifeblood. Id be screwed without him haha
MornieAlantie
Haha, I also pity the butterbar who tries to give top an order.
AsstRegMagician
As a butter bar, you still have to give orders. But it's how you phrase the orders that makes the difference.
Niggawitharocketlauncher
Terminal Lance here, rah gentlemen
Zombiechews
What rank do you get the golden m4 ?
VeinyFleshtTrumpet

IneigiTsukuyomi
As am I. iPod 5.

Comment/question about Navy's O7. I believe it's Read Admiral (Lower Half) and Commodore is almost a title or billet correct?
ld3514
Yes. 2 rear admirals. Lower, then upper. Commodore is used during wartime and is above captain. Highest rank on field. (Or sea in navy case)
cogs
Commodore ("Commode Door") is also the positional title for a Squadron Commander.
Kamekami23
I was looking for this comment on that. Never seen commodore before. Cool to know
WillyVanilli
lol seamen
Whyt128
2 best names in bootcamp (USCG): Seamen Stains, and Seamen Splatter

LoudredBragg

ArchMagos
his last name was (and presumably still is) Dicks"
tehtaxidriver
That's the basic title, it's basically your job title. Like airman, fireman, etc
thrashedbarrier
In jrotc my rank was a seaman i just told my friends i was a private
Mrziffle
When you play with privates and end up with seaman.
AsstRegMagician
Which, unsurprisingly, is not better to a bunch of 13 year olds haha
MyNameIsAgentSmith
Doesn't help when your last name is Johnson.
ASithInTraining
I am a seaman
OldManOx
Where the hell are the damn warrant officers??
TeachHowDoesMakeWork
Flight school trying to find out how hella-choppers work. (At least for the Army)
pugglesworth

Ilovegold
They are a myth among the enlisted, some say they show up once a month. Nobody's sure where they go or what they do.
justanotherpuma
TIL Cotton Eye Joe is a Warrant Officer.
LucasTigy
a senior chief in my office supposedly became a warrant officer. he was never seen again... except for that time i saw him at the nex
PerrinGoldeneyesStaves
I guess if you're a window-licking grunt
AGorgonMadeMyPenisHard
As a window-licking grunt, I haven't seen the battalion cw5 in the entirety of my time in my unit
PerrinGoldeneyesStaves
As a pog piece of shit, I work with two CW4s.
pugglesworth
what do grunt WOs even do? Like my CWO knows our systems and can do our job tactically and strategically 1/2
pugglesworth
but I am genuinely curious as to what their requirements/expectations are 2/2
OhSnapsItsApac
They don't exist
MikeArclight
out back smoking, where else?
Orktapus
probably off somewhere, not working?
FlatPlutoSociety
I mean, literally and physically. Where are they? Have you seen one around recently? I haven't.
Suspicion
They are too busy doing their god damn jobs to make this list.
theactualdeadpool
Found the warrant officer.
SamArt53

RootyTootyDrunkenShooty
If you tell me they're around, you're lying.
SupaGrova
I see one everyday (I.E. My father).
chavnutsmcchav
They are like Sasquatch. Rarely seen in the wild. I met one once and no one believes me. They all think I'm crazy but I know what I saw.
Patientrain
I was doing medical for a range and I saw 3 CWO5s. Thought I was hallucinating.
Or10nSharkFin
What warrant officers?
YesThisIsPhteven
The magical "bridge" between officers and enlisted. They are they're own chain of command
catsoverbrats
"What warrant office" as in we only have like 7 in the military so they don't seem to exist.
Or10nSharkFin
Sorry, I know what a warrant officer is. I was making a joke.
YesThisIsPhteven
Ha, sorry. I miss read your comment as "what ARE warrant officers?"
Cal1te
Wondering around somewhere terrifying the enlisted.
Mewmus
i forgot about them
CaptaineObvious
Prefer it that way
RomeoSniper
Its OK, everyone does.
AsstRegMagician
I love how that's an accepted joke. The damn snipes of the military.
subbvrt
Oh but it's not a joke....
AsstRegMagician

GiveMeYourDownSyndromeVotes
HA! GOT EEEMM
CoopDH
"They dont exist in the Air Force." Said the sad airman
pugglesworth
that always confused me but one day I realized you're all pretty specialized with your MOS's so there's not really a need for them
CoopDH
There is. We are specialized, but when we have enlisted operators sitting next to officers doing the same job but different pay. Not cool
pugglesworth
yeah I would not be happy about that either
