The artist YinYangGio imagined several videogames getting animated adaptations, and even perfectly captured the classic animation styles

Sauce: https://bsky.app/profile/yinyanggio14.bsky.social

METAL GEAR SOLID - Like 80s G.I. Joe (and other cartoons of the era - the kind that blew their entire production budget on the intros and the rest of the show was lackluster animation)

RESIDENT EVIL - Like Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (90s cel animation)

METROID - As late 90s anime

STARFOX - The Don Bluth movie we never got

I would've watched the shit out of these.

I saw the RE one and immediately went, "That's just Zombie Island." Which is strange because Cam Clarke is Metal Gear Solid.

Opinion: The vast majority of games would be significantly better suited to serialised TV shows instead of movies.

Seriously, give me 7 seasons of game-accurate lore/story from Mortal Kombat, done by HBO.

Reminds me of the Watchmen cartoon that was on Saturday mornings.

James Baxter animated Star Fox isnt what I need from this world, but it sure as hell is what I want.

Awesome.

Does nobody really remember Captain N and the Game Master?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At least the Starfox movie didn't end up being a Ralph Bakshi flick. I know that some people in usersub might have appreciated that though.

It would've been really wierd and horny and shockingly violent. Worth at least one watch.

Even a bit of that signature CRT TV fuzz. That's some good 80s/90s tv look. I find I miss that CRT look more than I would have thought.

I'd definitely watch these! Makes me wish 2D animation like this would return. I miss it.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would still be watching these.

Still kinda salty the ElfQuest deal fell through.

Wendy Pini has recently posted in her social media that after fifty years of Hollywood letting 'em down, they would not try again. 'Cause get this: The latest attempt tried to eliminate Skywise entirely. And as much as I think the [spoilers] was a bad plan, the Pinis are right: There's no "ElfQuest" without the Cutter AND Skywise. (And besides, they already have an audio drama available, so close enough.)

Took me a minute to realize the zombie wasn't dressed as a bellhop.

Maniac. Why'd he bite me?

Reminds me of the artist who recreated Don Bluth's iconic style for a hypothetical Mario movie: /gallery/what-if-don-bluth-made-mario-movie-tW7gQjw

The absolute HAIR on that version of Peach!

That is also wonderful.

Bucky O'Hare was basically Star Fox before Star Fox

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, we are in the wrong timeline.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be more period correct if at random some of them were nearly unrecognizable redesigns.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, this is really good

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I KNOW! I'd have been impressed with them matching just ONE of these styles, and they did ALL FOUR.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was about to say that there was a Star Fox cartoon... then remembered what I was thinking of was Bucky O'Hare... and I died.

5 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I always felt they would be a perfect crossover.

I grew up with Captain N and the Super Mario Bros Super Show / Mario 3 / World series and goddamn do I miss that period of time.

As someone who owns the DVD'S of SMB3 and World, the nostalgia is real.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OMG! I can't remember how many times I played this from 10:03 over and over again, when I was a young teen...for cardio obviously.

yeah same, it was only like two years for me but I remember those cartoons so fondly

Honestly, a Metroid cartoon would go hard. Personally, I wish Studio Ghibli would have done an animated Legend of Zelda.

5 months ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 0

I just wish we didnt have to wait 10+ years for anything metroid its my fav nintendo ip

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly seems like Nintendo wants the IP to just die. My best friend loves Metroid and he is convinced that Nintendo hates the IP for some reason.

Two hours of camping with some cute mascot character (little leaf headed dudes prolly) followed by ten minutes of actual functional plot. But the cooking scenes would be fucking amazing. And Tingle would show up for exactly three minutes and for some reason be the main piece of merch for the movie.

The Metroid Manga shows what we could have had. It's a fantastic read if you haven't already.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have. I also have all the LoZ manga and a couple of the Mario ones. The Nintendo manga and Arkira Himikawa make some great stuff.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Oracle of Ages Manga was one of my favorites. Really gives Ralph some much needed attention AND shows Impa deadlifting a cow. What more could you ask for?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

limited dialogue, moody atmosphere. Something like samurai jack in space.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most if not all of the dialog should be through adio logs or scan visor entries. Give it a super lonely feeling.

I like that this is just a pretend, completely fictional thing, and we're already giving it awards.

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I mean why stop at just the four ??? Toss in best picture and best animated feature in there

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well they’re currently making a live action Zelda.

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I am aware. I am also aware that the guy playing Link, Benhamin Ainsworth cannot act worth a fuck. The director is the dude that made the horrifically shitty Cirque du Freak adaptation that refused 99% of the source material. The writers are only known for Rise of Skywalker and Maze Runner. It is gonna be a massive shit show. I have no hope for this movie and will refuse to watch it out of spite because I know the source material is gonna get ignored. It's gonna be the next Dragon Ball Evolution

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Every update I hear about this movie makes it feel more like it's being made exclusively as an excuse to stop any demand for live action movies based on Nintendo properties.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your last sentence...I thought it before I read it.
I'd assume Nintendo would protect their IP, but it's going to start out with the main character Being Zelda and the legend is about him saving the princess bubbles or some shit

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How much acting is needed for Link? Well, I guess maybe facial expressions...

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Needs to be able to do a convincing "well EXCUUUUUUSE ME, princess!"

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You are correct on both things. It's literally insane to me that Metroid isn't bigger.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At the very least, I would think Metroid would get a Netflix series. Imagine it. Same budget and loving creation as Mandalorian and we would have WAY more merch sales than you can imagine.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The issue is Sakamoto would be there and he’d care more about the zero suit and high heels than Samus being a bad ass.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the closest Samus content I've seen in live action would be maybe the blond chick in the hated Halo tv series, or Bobbie in The Expanse.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as the same care and love that Castlevania got is put into it.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the closest Samus content I've seen in live action would be maybe the blond chick in the hated Halo tv series, or Bobbie in The Expanse.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem is Sakamoto. Whenever he's given total control he's more obsessed with adding high heels, baby obsession talk, defer to men and the zero suit itself being tight spandex. Whenever he is gone or is under someone else's care you get stuff like Prime.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah I really don't count much past supermetroid as actual metroid :/

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I quit when the N64 snubbed the franchise.
And changing to fps? Thanks I’ll just go play Perfect Dark.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm only so versed in Metroid...baby obsession?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He helmed a game with complete creative control called Other M. Which as you can obviously see is Mother. The opening scene has her talk about a distress signal was a baby’s cry because it was so universally understood. Then she arrives at a ship that is shaped like a baby bottle. Only one of the many issues with that game was Samus’s new found baby obsession theme.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The game takes place not long after Super Metroid, of course she's going to be thinking about motherhood after the baby metroid that imprinted on her sacrificed itself to save her.
