My pacific northwest neighborhood had two male peacocks that had escaped some rich guys pen and were never reclaimed. I'd wake up some mornings as a kid and see them perched on my front porch railing a mere yard from the front door, so close to touch.. but my mom never let me, nor my cats, claiming they'd peck my eyes out. I still have a fear of them xD
My great uncle lived down the hill from us and had several. They used to hang out in our yard, and we'd find feathers to bring to Mom. She had a big vase of them in the living room.
