#3 The full quote is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", where covenant stands for pact of fraternity/sorority, people you would choose to fight alongside for a cause, so technically, not only is cheese dip more important than your own mother and your siblings, it is somehow now more important than any pact of friendship or oath of loyalty to a king or leader you enter into, which tracks sort of because a man has got to eat
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
No, "blood" always meant consanguinuity.

while we're here, does anyone know what "BAHI'S" and "P.K.'s" is supposed to mean?
Bubble181
Probably baha'i (a religion/philosophy) and I don't know, but I don't want player killers in my socializing areas so if it's them, they can stay out.
raymm
“BAHI’S” is almost certainly a misspelled “Bahá’ís” — members of the Bahá’í Faith. The correct plural is Baha’is/Bahá’ís, not “Bahi’s.”
“P.K.’s” in this kind of church-sign context most likely means “Preacher’s Kids” or “Pastor’s Kids.” It is common church slang for the children of clergy.
The sign is full of incorrect apostrophes and misspellings, so those are probably not carefully written terms.
DWolf
Might be Promise Keepers given that the nutcase has it in for any Christian group not his own narrow belief (Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses). BAHI'S is probably the Bahá’í faith.
Robbann
wait, you mean that in the Simpsons episode with The Leader cult, when he ends the episode with "i should have stayed with the Promise Keepers", that that's a real thing?

#34 Weird that they attempted to pluralize almost everything incorrectly by adding an 's, which of course is for possessive rather than plural except in certain cases. Homo's what?
Interestingly also they didn't make that mistake with "Druggies" for some reason.
I wonder if drugs were involved in the creation of that banner.
Jaranon
The drugs that need to be involved in this case are antipsychotics.
ThisGuyPostingThings
Oooh, in which cases would it be plural rather than possessive?
MichikoTheJungleFox
The rule IIRC is that for single digits or single letters, you should add an apostrophe before the 's'.
Example:
Computers use binary, which is 1's and 0's.
Can you write a sentence without using any a's?
ThisGuyPostingThings
I have never been told to use an apostrophe for numbers or letters.
MichikoTheJungleFox
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe Scroll down to the "Letters of the alphabet, and small words" and "Numbers and symbols" sections.

It's a Swatch belonging to the 80s.

The '80s isn't an entity that can own anything so it can't be possessive. Unless you were being sarcastic there in which case, you got me, hats off.

#40 if you agree with even 1 person on the right, chances are you are a stupid as fuck pedophile.
Vortexhelios320
You probably know this, but quick addendum: *Those still living, at least. Many people who 'were' on the right in the past were decent enough people before they died off and the racists took over throughout the mid-to-late 20th century.
Racists, puritans and greed ruin everything they touch. I think the jury is still out on if anything can be saved once that rot sets in, but I still hope humanity's current course can be reversed within my lifetime.
hornpile
Were they? You say, before the racists took over, but let's be real here, there was never a magical time when there wasn't a lot of racism on the right. The left wasn't exactly innocent either, but pretty much every big civil rights act was ushered in by the democrats. There was a period where the racists went quieter, but they never went away.
Vortexhelios320
True, I didn't mean to come off as implying otherwise (I meant "took over", not in a "suddenly asserted themselves as dominant" way, but in an "over time, most of the people closer to the center joined the Dems or went independent and they were all that remained" way.)
I was just trying to underline the fact that 'moderate right' used to be more than theoretical, and that there was a time where being 'conservative' didn't automatically mean you were a Klansman and/or human trafficker.

#14 Fun fact: This Biff was actually based on Trump by the moviemakers if I recall correctly.

Correct. Evil Alternate 1985 Biff is based on Trump. It's incredibly obvious, not at all thinly veiled.

Unless it's consensual, yeah.
Valase
You mean the "racist's, scientologist's and jehovah's witness's"? I think we also could do without the "liar's & thieve's", no need to invite the White House over...
ParaspriteHugger
Eh, depends. Some liars can be fun when applied correctly, and the world is in need for some Robin Hood kind of thievery.
Valase
I mean, we also need (more of) scientologists and jehovah witnesses who critically engage with their own believes and/or trying to leave them and explain it / warn others about them, so there's basically always an exception to everything...
SomeGeek75ygh
disinvite* which isn't a word.
slopwizard
Yeah get them out of here. Then I hope the "loud mouthed women" and "emos" are a Venn diagram so it is basically a concert

#46 I fucking hate this meme. That's not even remotely close to the science. Source: degree in pharmacology (incl. neuropsychopharmacology), and my own well-managed ADHD.
LicensedAdHominem
Are you more upset about calling ADHD "diet autism" or about calling mixed amphetamine salts "methamphetamine"?
lifeisadadjoke
BOTH terms are incorrect. I dislike both for that reason, enhanced by having ADHD myself.
akelamishari
Autistic question: if you had to simplify it to fit in these comments, how would you explain it correctly? y They are methamphetamines, at least the earliest medications were, no? What i find upsetting is that some M.D.s refuse to learn about cannabinoids, and dont use them because “we dont know the exact mechanism of action” but they prescribe tons of psychopharmaceuticals of which we also dont know the mechanism of action for, but dont question those… I find these topics really interesting.
hornpile
Even if we don't always know the exact mechanism of action, we do have independent studies proving they provide a benefit. The exact mechanism behind something is not as important as being able to prove that it works better than a placebo.
lifeisadadjoke
You are correct, but most meds today are looking at very specific receptor topographies (because we can map them now), against the molecular structure of the agonist/antagonist, which also factors into it's polarity (water soluble) or lack of (lipid soluble)
lifeisadadjoke
ADHD is characterized by low blood flow to the pre-frontal cortex, which controls amongst other things, impulse control (which is also attention...visual/mental impulse control). The stimulants increase blood flow to this region, and improve the function. Cannabinoids are actually well understood in the pharmacology world...it's the MDs that aren't as knowledgeable. I know more about meds than my family doctor does, so we confer on them.
TKpotato
Low blood flow is a symptom not a cause. Stimulants increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain (which is why an NRI can also work in some people). It’s about the neurotransmitters.
TKpotato
The low blood flow is caused by under active neurons, since they’re at a lower baseline, they don’t need as much blood flow.
TKpotato
Stimulants work on the nervous system not the cardiovascular system, the increase in energy they cause on the body means an increase in blood flow is needed to get the glucose and oxygen to everywhere it is needed. Increasing of course, the blood flow to the brain.
TKpotato
Combining my adhd meds with a 40mg edible cancels out the side effects of the meds for me.
