"Someone asked if our wines were vegan, to my horror I realized they were in fact vegan, so I fixed them" Maynard J. Keenan of Tool

Actually a legitimate question. Some wineries use fish finings to clarify their wine.

nothing says alpha as fuck carnivore like being threatened by vegans

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 8

People do have a right to know what they are drinking, and seems a bit of an overreaction for a quick question...

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 7

46 and 2 pieces of bacon just ahead of me

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So, now their wines are non-vegan, non-kosher and non-halal. :---)

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

And the anti-vegan circle jerk continues

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 9

This shows his own ignorance in wine making as well, as asking if it is vegan is a legitimate question.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

You need to relax man

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Seems like unneccessary dickisheness to me

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 9

Especially as an answer to a valid question :/

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I see Maynard is as much of an "edgy" dipshit as ever.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 9

Do you use chitosan as a clarifier? Its technically an animal product.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is fucking childish.

10 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 16

No you are childish. nana na-nana!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A little less fucking around with grapes and a little more Tool music would be really neat. It's only been 10 years. What? No I'm not 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

bitter, you're bitter! I'm just fine with listening to four albums on repeat forever.... Did I say all that out loud just now?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

haha they're all still perfect... have you watched "Blood Into Wine" ??

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The best thing is - not all wine is vegan, due to a red color made of red bugs, which can be used to make the wine have deeper color.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

Also several clearing agents are animal based (gelatin, eggs etc)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cochineal?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yay, sure, maynard is a cool guy, but that trope of hating vegans or any other 'weak and loving' group of people is such a bore.

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 18

Man I'm not even vegetarian and this seems like a dick move.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 6

Remember: it's the vegans who are obnoxious and preachy.

10 years ago | Likes 167 Dislikes 28

I KR? Not Maynard. He's always easy going and cool.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I guess that must be apparent with additional context. With *just* this photo, he looks like a bit of an ass.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Considering he performs with his back to the audience, you are correct.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am pretty sure he has stage fright

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think he ever claimed not to be

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Found the vegan!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 49

You do not deserve downvotes!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 18

The end of his Insta post is as follows 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

What's his insta?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh that one..I thought there was one I missed

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey Offended Vegans. We just let you know in our own sarcastic way that our wines are fucking vegan. The bacon never touched the wine. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

Awful marketing 101.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

You know how many people probably want wine from him just cause it's Maynard? I doubt it matters lmao

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have no idea who the dude is, but if he's a celebrity, I bet he could piss in a bottle and people would still buy it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's the lead singer of Tool, Tool has a huggggge following.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hardly even qualifies as "sarcastic". It's just obnoxious, and kinda baffling that he would think it makes sense to respond like that.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

There's a very common stereotype that vegans can't take a joke. Every vegan joke I see just proves it right because someone gets outraged.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Are you referring to me? I eat meat though. And I'm not really outraged, I just think he's a being a bit of a twat. Certainly not funny...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, in general. Have you never heard of "found the vegan"? It's reposted here like 50 times a week.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Haha, yeah fuck those guys, just trying not to harm sentient life with there dietary choices. fucking assholes right?

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 12

Yes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Found the vegan

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 13

I think Imgur is getting better at their outlook towards this subject. A good half a year ago you would've been sent to downvote hell.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yay, we're evolving!!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd rather be a vegan than a dickhead.

10 years ago | Likes 167 Dislikes 33

I found the vegan

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

I agree with the sentiment, but, hmm... That's a lot to give up, you know? There's like a thousand different types of cheeses out there.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

I'm trying vegetarian and even that's hard. Especially when you live next to in n out.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not to mention chorizo and braunchweiger

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

There are many vegan cheeses too!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

"Cheese". I was born lactose intolerant so have had quite the time eating what's labeled vegetarian/vegan cheese, and it fucking ain't!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like fake meats (soy) they use substitutes to replace their animal-based counterpart. I hear the better vegan cheeses are made from almonds.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, why don't I just paint a pentagram out of goat's blood and summon Beelzebub while I'm at it? I'm not a heretic, geez.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wonder if they make a Cabernet Sausage

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Tenderloin Tempranillo

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What a dick

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 5

I don't see what's wrong for asking. Vegans usually live the way they do for ethical reasons. If your product is friendly to the cause 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 145 Dislikes 35

A high school friend was out for a week because the juices from a pepperoni got on their pizza. They never had meat as a child.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Is there REALLY a cause though? I mean, there is at least some truth to the loudmouth vegan stereotype that imgur shits themselves over

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 23

There's obnoxious preachy vegans who ruin it for everyone, like any other movement or idea, quelle surprise.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Guys I found the vegan

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 25

I'm not vegan, my parents are Hindu and abstain from meat. Since I live at home, I tend to eat a meatless diet.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not vegan, my parents are Hindu and abstain from meat. Since I live at home, I tend to eat a meatless diet.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found the carnitard

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 14

Why ruin it and turn away a customer segment. They are bound tobe repeat customers if they like it

10 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 15

Shhhhh. Let imgur circle jerk. Trying to tell them otherwise will only get you down voted.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 11

The sad part is that is true.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

I know right? I only have to say 'I need mer guns to stop people from trespassing hurr durr' and I'll be downvoted to where cthulu came from

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That's Maynard. He doesn't care about being friendly to even his own cause or repeat customers. Look up the lyrics to Hooker With a Penis.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And Vicarious.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He has called his own fans "fucking retards". He does not care.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's been backlash. A preachy vegan tried to ruin a restaurant for not being vegan enough, since then it's been proudly non-vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

People of imgur using logic and reasoning? Unheard of!

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

I think the point is that asking if a specific wine is vegan is a seriously, seriously dumb question.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Many others have said it's not.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What are they saying? What wine has animal-based products in it? :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Read the other comments. Example: "Some wineries use fish finings to clarify their wine."

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because it makes you look like a pretentious twat to ask, as if you're better than another for using a vegan product that's why (1)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

and he was making a joke saying "fuck you for asking, but yes they are"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Why it would be pretentious to ask? If you are following diet, you need to know if the products you buy are suitable. Not all wines are vegan

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A manufacturer shouldn't have to change their product because you made a choice (a stupid one at that) to not eat meat products, (1)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

It's pretentious new age bullshit with no grounding in reality, and you can't expect manufacturers to just conform to it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Of course not. But asking if they are suitable is not even remotely same as wanting them to change it. By your logic, nobody would be 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes thank you. I'm Jewish and can't eat pork and people always give me these heinous looks. Like, fuck off and let me be sad.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

you have tried and failed at eating pork? just because you are a kike does not mean you will die or burst into flames for eating pork.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mispronounced "choose not to"; you don't have to be religious.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 11

It's a matter of culture. I'm not religious. And no, I can't eat it. It's number 1 no no for us. I don't expect you to understand.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Good thing about culture is that it can change. As is shown in Israel as there is a PORK trend going on for a few years already.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I would agree, but it's not Jews eating it. I have lived in Israel and this is not the case. It's mostly for Christians or immigrants

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Culture is a choice. You don't have a physical reaction to it that you cannot control.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

What's your problem anyway? Are you an asshole or just a bigot?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Some people will forego their freedoms to make choices in order to participate in social circles.. especially family. To these, it will seem

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh please. Even if someone is allergic they still choose to eat something. And we believe there are repercussions to eating pork.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Maynard is a dick.........there is still hope for this world :D

10 years ago | Likes 242 Dislikes 31

Maynard just makes edgy jokes constantly. they're not usually funny. Except Puscifer. ppl still think its a real band

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I always thought of him as more of a tool.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

My birthday was in September, and I went to his concert in April of the following year because he kept postponing it. When we got there, 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He called us assholes and sang with his back towards us. Thats your style, w/e. But not after making us wait 8 fucking months to see you 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Hell I'd ride him for 3 miles. That man is sexy AF.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maaaynaaarrrdssss diiiiiiick.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I seriously wonder if he might be a sociopath.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

I had that same thought. If he isn't, well then he is a monumental asshole.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

But is he a highly functioning one?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

clearly.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, he's clearly has some empathy. A lot of his music is extremely empathetic, in fact. As is he in interviews.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

If he was a psychopath (the sociopaths are the dangerous, emotionally unstable, often violent ones) that would be the case.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

To a psychopath, pretending to have empathy is like trying to describe the Grand Canyon if you've only ever seen grainy phone pictures.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Psychopaths have a complete inability to empathize with another person's happiness or pain and suffering,.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually neither sociopath nor psychopath are actual technical terms. They are media descriptors for violent antisocial persons

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes but they are commonly recognized terms. Like cold. Or flu.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats not true. Psychopaths have absolutely no conscience and can not empathize at all, sociopaths have extreme difficulty empathizing.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm not sure that "making a joke at the expense of vegans" is the sole qualifying criteria for sociopathy. I'll have to check the DSM.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

obviously not. but I've known about him, his lyrics, his attitudes for a bout 20 years

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he's just an intense dude

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

For those who wonder. A lot of wine is not vegan. Gelatine, bone, eggshells,… usually for clarity. Look it up. Bit of a mindf… ;)

10 years ago | Likes 327 Dislikes 8

Bugs

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Are egg shells something vegans avoid? I mean, they couls be hatched egg shells...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd assume b/c they still have to industry scale grow the chickens. But no idea tbh

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many use fish extracts for purifying. But if they used phosphates it's generally ok.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same with beer. Gelatin is made from cow and pig bones and skins for those who didn't know.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

also the water used to by dinosaur piss/comet blood, not very vegan imo.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a vegan. Thanks for this. I also make sure my oxygen is a hundred per cent animal cruelty free.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

"I'm a level 5 vegetarian, I don't anything that casts a shadow" -a one-time Simpsons character

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well. I thought you were funny

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's always easier to fine red vegan wine than white because most whites use animal products as preservatives.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is the world are people so hateful towards vegans? What's the point?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

cognitive dissonance

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because vegans display cognitive dissonance?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mostly people hateful about something new for them that puts their beliefs in doubt, anger is a common reaction to that

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah, I see. Completely logical and reasonable answer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because a minority of vegans are hateful towards the majority of society. In reaction to that hate, all vegans were targeted.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But I mean, if a vegan isn't being hateful, then why attack? I'm a vegan but I don't care if anyone else is. I'm not gonna push my beliefs.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because of the way vegans whore for attention, kinda like like your post with "who said vegan was boring" it's vegans that says that shit..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Okay, so if that's "whoring" for attention, so is literally every other baking post. There's nothing wrong with being proud of something you

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus, you only made this post to whore for attention using the vegan movement too. That's a little hypocritical, don't you think?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Made.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People as a group are notoriously indiscriminate when pissed off.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're right. I just wish people could be more logical.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why beeing so hateful? Seriously?

10 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 15

No I agree, this is stupid, and I'm not a vegan and a huge tool fan

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

maynard isnt a big fan of people. example 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCEeAn6_QJo

Insecurity and ignorance. Most can't even differentiate between a vegetarian and a vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 6

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

You're not even an original troll. At least take pride in being an asshole. Come up with something that hasn't been said billions of times.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Hahahahahaha. Like shootin' fish in a barrel. How's that for a cliche, fucko?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That's not the point at all. I don't go in front of muslims rubbing pork in front of their face saying HAHA I DON'T AGREE W/ YOUR BELIEFS

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When you're vegan, you have to snub bee products! No honey.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 15

Yeah, as a vegetarian fuck that! HONEY FOR ALL

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Oh my god, can I live without honey ???????????????????

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you don't. It's debated whether you should or not, but bees not being able to suffer means honey is more often considered vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Veganism is for abstaining from anything that exploits animals. Insects are animals.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Exploitation that does not involve suffering is an area of ethical uncertainty; it's up to the individual to decide whether it is or not.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes, you do. All the vegans I know abstain from beeswax. honey, etc. because the bees *DO* suffer and die in the collection process.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Evidence? If it is as infallible a conclusion as you claim, why is it debated?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

without human interruption. That means no bee products as well. I'm not going to debate whether or not they suffer. It's not the point.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The point of veganism is abstaining from any and all exploitation of animals, including insects, and letting them live their lives 1/2

And Puscifer fans are less demanding, I'm sure. But the music is shit.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I'm loving Puscifer, and I think the underlying structure in their music is a lot like Tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtZJiQSmJ9g

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He has more control over it, IMO. Plus it hasn't been bogged down in lawsuits and stuff for a decade.

Maynard is such an enigma, in that anything not Tool that he's done has kind of sucked. Exception given for Deftones Passenger.

Yes this.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I seriously don't think it's him holding the new album up... There were lawsuits and a bunch of bs. He is ready for the music

Pink Floyd has released more new music in the past 10 years than Tool. PINK FLOYD.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He did, just not with Tool

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like Puscifer, A Perfect Circle and Tool. I forgive his assholery because his actions don't affect my life in any way other than music.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

He said a lot of grumpy things about tool fans not too long ago. Not sure when to expect the album honestly.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

he comes off as a grumpy guy. He also comes off as a guy that is only obligated to himself. probably around never.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Called the fans insufferable retards lol

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Tool makes music "backwards." Music first then lyrics. I think they just started sending him music a few months ago. Still taking too long.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I've honestly given up on a new album. There's been rumors for years that he just got the music.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

personally i think thats how music should be made.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I saw a few reports about something being in the works ... finally. Who knows when we'll get to hear it tho.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not nearly soon enough.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

lol why its just going to sound exactly like the last album which sounded exactly like the album before that...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 16

I don't like tool, all their songs are one riff for like 20 minutes.

You know, except for the 3 time signature changes and the delightful breakdowns.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Take it back!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I love how much hate this is getting. Tool fans unite.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you're incorrect.

Shut up Meg.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shut up Meg

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's a super-hard multitasker and he's been working with demos the band has sent him. I'm sure they're getting somewhere.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Besides, I'd rather have something worked on like hell than a (good) but admittedly rushed album like 10K Days.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

10k was a solid album, didn't feel rushed at all to me

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Agree. 10k is solid.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still no lateralus or aenema

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously tho

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10,000 Days... is how long it takes Tool to make their next album.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Tool's new album is akin to half life 3 at this point

10 years ago | Likes 311 Dislikes 1

Yup still nothing my dudes. Oh, all the HL writers left valve, so hl3 is most certainly never, ever going to happen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And tree fiddy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And necrophagist's third album.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe. Maybe they will make the sound track for it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least these guys are actively trying to get it done. Valve gave up on it to fuck around with VR.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tool album 5 confirmed!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nailed it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chinese Democracy pt2

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Not really. They've had some legal issues that according to Adam Jones are resolved now. Also the instrumental part was done a while ago, 1/

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

And tree fiddy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would an outfielder be involved?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they just need Maynard to put in the vocals 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Half life three is technically in development, but it's probably never going to live up to hype. Hopefully they'll crank out the album soon

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TMYK! :D

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HL3 Confirmed

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tons of winemakers still use egg whites in the fining process.

10 years ago | Likes 528 Dislikes 9

So....then what about people deadly allergic to eggs?can they not have wine

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

(this comment should actually be on top...)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

There are vegan wines though.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

For those who don't want to harm animals but still want to know more about wine than you do, we bring you vegan wine.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you are allergic to egg whites, this is one new thing to remember. The amount of allergene is so small that I'm currently ok with it.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

From Hannibal:

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

egg whites

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And a lot of breweries use isenglass (fish swim bladder) or gelatin for clarity. There are vegetable based fining agents though

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

YES And/or milk product

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I did not know this.. the more you know.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Also some of them use fish intestines for filtering

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or isenglass

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Are they taking the Hobbits there?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Love how your extremely salient comment has largely been overlooked!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some use gelatin, even.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And almost all wines are filtered through a fish stomach during the process of becoming wine.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Some are filtered through livestock bone char, just like beet sugar is.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes yes. I'm in culinary so I had to take a food a beverage class and wine process is very interesting.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it really depends on how much you want to strip from the wine during the fining process.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought you were kidding.... :|

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Use to be true, but not really anymore, as stated already, natural egg proteine or synthetic derivatives are much more common.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Not everyone uses isinglass. Whey/caesin & egg white derivatives are common alternatives.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Heard of those too also they use ashes of dead animals during some wine making.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't imagine what for. Gelatin, sure, but ashes?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's like a fining agent to help filter the wine during its making process

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And by tons you mean 99%. I'm pretty confident saying almost no Wines are vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 167 Dislikes 6

This is so strange to me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From what I've read, Maynard was being sarcastic and his wines actually ARE vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I homebrew and I just use fruit, yeast, and water in mine and it turns out just fine...what am I missing?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lucky you. We've been homemaking wine in my family for generations. And it's always the same shitty-piss we love!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wtf, where are you from?Noone in Austria has or does use any protein. Though we used glycol which caused a huge scandal reforming everything

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet you guys were pissed when Fireball stole your 30-Year "Antifreeze" thunder last year.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly don't know what you mean? We reformed from quantity to quality and have made awesome quality wine since then.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know. It was the best thing that ever happened to Austrian wine. And I'm being sincere. It forced you guys to focus on your awesome 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are some, but they will be clearly labeled vegan. I've had like 2 different vegan wines in my life.

10 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Vegan-Nazis would definitly not consider a wine using animal proteins for it's making as compliant with their diet.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

Just like why wine isn't Koscher but Vodka is... Damnit Koscher and vegan-nazi in the same sentence, did I earn a Godwin-Point ?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

i am pretty sure jews can drink wine

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

How were they?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

ok. I didn't notice any significant taste difference. I think they were pretty good, but at $20/bottle, should have been better

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Try the "Two Buck Chuck" (Charles Shaw wine) for $1.99 a bottle. I think refining wine in a vegan-friendly process is actually cheaper.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, for sure
