I have seen all of these things in one five second moment when Top Gear was in India

If you are paying so little attention to the road that you don't notice very clearly marked maximum speeds, then you should not be behind the wheel of a 1+ ton machine.

A guy in Norway was recently caught doing 121 kmh in a 50 zone. He was aquitted on necessity law because he was rushing home to his wife when their baby had stopped breathing.

love this guy, it's been fun discovering some Indian comedians

He looks like Indian George Lucas

Worth the watch, thanks for sharing!

My dumb American ass was like "100mph in Norway... Wow" literally until the gif started over 🤦‍♂️

This, for whatever reason, really reminds me of the Monty Python Yorkshire Men sketch.

Luxury!

Bribery discount?

His dramatic delivery makes this so good

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Delivery is just as important to comedy as the material itself.

for anyone who missed the title card at the end, this is Azeem Banatwalla

I love a smart, funny and sexy Indian man!

This is brilliantly funny, super-well delivered but sheeeeesh, it's still not worth being in Mumbai. You can TELL the fines are low there because it feels like the whole place has already completely given up on road safety in general. You HAVE TO BE clinically insane to drive in Mumbai. Especially the scooter-drivers. Those guys are nuts.

Honestly, driving in parts of India is full Fury Road post-apocalyptica.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean I kinda assumed that was what he's saying, that it's not GOOD, it's chaos lol

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's chaotic Fury Road on bath-salts vibes. Yeah.

While Norway does have some of the highest traffic fines in the world, for more severe offenses like going 30 over the limit they use an income based system. So rich assholes pay significantly more than the average citizen.

The major highways heading from Paris to the north of France have the most dramatic speed changes with no warning at all sometimes it'll go from hundred KPH to 30 KPH then back to 70 then down to 40 then back to 100 within the space of a mile

Rich assholes pay significantly more than the average asshole. Poor speeders are assholes too.

If any fine is not a percentage of income its just a poor people tax.

4 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

As a Norwegian, that's Finland. However, you start losing your license and get potential jail time when the offenses get more severe. There's been talk of going to an income based system, but nothing has come off it yet.

As a side note, a speed camera caught me not too long ago at 14km over the speed limit on the highway through Oslo, and the fine was about 6000 NOK, which is about 650 USD. Good reminder to stick closer to the speed limit. :)

I thought that was Finland

its in all of Scandinavia just that I think swede's sort of have a soft caps. and also Finland also calculates your net worth into it... Sweden don't or don't do it as aggressively. meaning Bill gate whit his salery of 1 usd a year. in sweden might get a lower fine but in Finland they go... is that Luxery car stolen? consider its impossible for one making 1 usd a year to be able to afford that, alternative you are committing some high level of Tax evasion and failure to declare income.

In the UK, it's equivalent to your weekly earnings.

In Denmark they confiscate your car if you go more than 100% over the limit. It happens frequently. A Norwegian guy got his newly purchased car seized, some years a go, en route from Germany.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the Norwegian guy lost his Lamborghini. Poor soul. He has bought a new one now.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then it was probably a fitting fine.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And they confiscate it in DK even if it's a rental. Zero exceptions.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As it should be.

30 kph over is severe there?

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I mean, excluding residential/urban areas, on most roads you're gonna crash if you go thirty over the speed limit because of the turns etc. We don't have a lot of superhighway type roads. But we also don't post the speed limit everywhere - if there are no signs, it's 80kmh

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

30 over is insane. Though the level of insanity of course depends on if the limit was 30 or 100. In Norway I think you'll also lose your licence regardless

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

100 kph is slow. I'm used to 120-130

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

30 over is barely a blip on most major roads, residential street, big deal, 2 lane highway a 30 drop is just a speed trap

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Norway really is extremely different to the US. The highways you're used to couldn't exist there. You go from one curved road into a tunnel, into a roundabout still in the tunnel, out onto a bridge, another tunnel into a tight curve.

30k over is the difference between a fender bender and a fireball that kills everyone. Stopping distances vastly change every extra K.
I was in America and my partner was 30k over with people blowing past her and cops doing nothing, sure is a lot of freedom there...

At highway speeds doing 75 in a 55 is negligible and most modern vehicles can come away with passengers unscathed. 40 in a 20 in a suburb with pedestrians all over the place us a totally different story

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Only if you're not already in fireball territory, my friend
