Some of my new Rustic/Industrial work...

Hey all! My name is Jordan, and I create metal art under the name Kern Creations. While I general work in steel, copper, aluminum, or brass, I decided that maybe it would be fun to add some wood into the mix.

The backer plate was once a display at my local Lowe's store that I stripped, plasma cut to shape, and driller/tapped to accept the 20 3/8-16 bolts. The whole thing was then rusted in my special patina mixture.

The wood came from a branch that I found in my driveway. I thought it looked interesting, so I split it on my band saw to expose some nice spalted wood inside. It looked so nice that I had to preserve the halves in polyurethane, then mount them to the backers with hidden 1/2" steel rod.

The gooey glossy finish of the wood made me want to match the rusted steel to it, so some clear coat was in order. Here is the smaller shelf supporting one of my handmade steel/copper/brass roses.

I liked the style so much, I couldn't stop at just one build!

So I decided to make this business card/pen holder. The rust on the steel really compliments the satin black powder coat and charred wood well, and the brass pops between the two.

Here is the card/pen holder in use. It fits my spark plug pens perfectly! I hope you all enjoyed this new work. It's a new style for me, so any feedback (positive or critical) is appreciated!
