TL:DR: Divorce doesn't have to be a bad thing, it can be a way to shake the etch a sketch and do something different in your life.
**In fact don't even continue reading. It's just mental diarrhea from a guy who's had way too much espresso since starting a 3 am shift.
sure, It's not an ideal situation, but we've been together since 2012 and married since 2014. Since then, things have changed. Various reasons we stopped communicating as well as we used to, the "relations" part of the relationship spiraled down, and we never really talked about the serious stuff. It's more or less amicable. not 50/50, maybe more 70/30 or 60/40 with her as the majority.
But we're not fighting, we don't hate each other. We sat down and talked over a game of chess, I like to think it helped us stay rational and keep the emotions down. It came down to the best thing for us. we talked about trying to stay friends but you know how that is. instead of talking every day it will be every other day, then once a week, month and then almost never. Maybe we will finish building the world and story we have been co-writing. Maybe not.
I'm really just putting this out there for my own catharsis, plus, I see a lot of posts where the relationship ended horribly, getting lawyers and everything involved. This is not one of those. The only thing we are arguing is who gets to keep our blender. it's one of those $300 dollar vitamix blenders, she bought it for me/us when we were trying to juice and lose weight. I'm insisting that I use it more and I should keep it, but she's insisting it's hers since she bought it.
At least I get to keep the KitchenAid mixer and the 6 quart crockpot. the cats are hers, and one of the dogs is mine. of course I deal with things with humor and bottling things up and never talk and let it out until i've had a bit of bourbon. It's taking significant conscious effort to be okay about this and not let myself fall into a pit of despair and self pity. Like I mentioned, this is mostly a cathartic writing as I express myself better in written word than spoken.
Lastly, three things, which is funny because I am clearly the last person who needs to give relationship advice. 1.) Communicate. 2.) Don't let the little things add up, even if they do leave the bread open EVERY. FRAKING. TIME. because "I didn't know if I was going to want another or not" ) 3.) Be excellent to each other.
Or don't. I'm not a cop. I'm just some jackhole on the internet with some regrets

Honest question, did you ever think your marriage would end in divorce before you got married?

Marriage is a great way to ruin a beautiful relationship. Something about being trapped...I dunno, just a theory.

Me. Ironically I could have checkmated her in about 7 or 8 moves but I held back because I saw the analogy between the game and our marriage

According to Louis CK getting divorced is amazing.
Rossco311
In your shoes I would just let her take the blender, you can always get another one, in the long term it's a small thing, Best of luck!

I got divorced a year and a half ago, met a woman who taught me it's ok to love again, we live and learn. I've found happiness again.

Divorce #2 final yesterday. I'm ecstatic.

I just had my second finalize a few weeks ago, both with kids. It's been rough.
PsiloPsybin
I hear you. I have two from marriage one and one from marriage two. I got 50/50 and no spousal, no fault. I consider that a win.
suitup666
Putting tldr first.. just for that you are awesome in my books, stay strong things will get better
yellowthoughtbox
We will see. I REALLY want the blender.
shockerslights
What is up with this blender does it suck your dick while reading you "where the wild things are" too?
yellowthoughtbox
Just a top of the line Vitamix.

I deal with things the exact same way. I just go over it in my head every waking second but hide it on my face so nobody knows.
yellowthoughtbox
That's what we do; We take those painful emotions and push them down. When more painful emotions come, we take those and stuff them on top
DrunkenWeasel
Just keep shoving down those feelings and not talk about them and then at 50 you have a heart attack. Thats the plan.

Hang in there mate. My folks went through the whole thing but there were kids involved. Keep your chin up man. They're still friends and 1/2
Vira815
Co-parents. Keeping it rational is the best way to go about it. Maybe this will strengthen your relationship as friends. Stay safe fam.
yellowthoughtbox
well she's keeping 2 of the 3 dogs and she's heading back to florida. Meanwhile I'm staying in Washington
Vira815
Ooph, long distance friends is tough. I'm sorry fam...
ThisIsNoCave
Cheers man. I've been there, so I know what you're going through. Ultimately, it's going to be a good thing, you'll see.
yellowthoughtbox
I've heard "you'll be able to date again" but I think I'm more likely to just sit at home and eat a Stouffer's family meal for at least a 1
yellowthoughtbox
Edit. It's not going to take me a year to eat the family meal.
yellowthoughtbox
2. Year or so. Quite a bit of Netflix to catch up on
ThisIsNoCave
Yeah, I was thrilled at how much extra Playstation time I was able to get. But, don't forget to push yourself too; hit the gym, get fit, etc
SometimesISayDumbShit
Been there man. it's going to suck no matter what you do. Keep yourself busy with things so you don't have time to dwell on it. try to... 1/
SometimesISayDumbShit
keep yourself from drinking your own face off like I did. that doesn't benefit anybody and it just numbs you and delays the recovery
yellowthoughtbox
But. But. But. Bourbon.
SometimesISayDumbShit
you drive a hard bargain, sir. Your argument is extremely logical as well. Carry on.
yellowthoughtbox
Haha. Funny enough, I've actually been drinking less since we broached the subject.
SometimesISayDumbShit
in all seriousness, just keep on keepin' on man. I know it's super hard at first, but time heals all wounds. you'll be aight

Sorry. I'm not good with the talking and flirting anymore. A friend said "Hey you could date again!" or.. or I could sit at home (1)
PMSaurusRex
Well who likes to share food. Hard to argue that point. And who doesn't love being at home. It's where all your stuff is.
yellowthoughtbox
right! plus money gets spent when you're out. why go to a bar and get whiskey and cokes when you can buy the whiskey and do it at home?!
yellowthoughtbox
(2) Eating chinese food or stouffer's lasagna with my dog and watch netflix. Part of our issues; I like to be more relaxed and she's gogogo
PMSaurusRex
Yea I totally get that. I am the more relaxed type. I am happy staying home and watching netflix with the dogs.
yellowthoughtbox
Damn you Netflix, I need Scrubs at this time in my life! well I suppose there is always Futurama...
