Also, it's easier to get away with because no good person would ever snitch on you if they found out.

I doubt this is true.
Regarding gold, there's a tiny amount of it in electronics, but small enough to not bother about it.
The copper cables might be worth slightly more, but again, electronics don't need loads of power so they are surely thin.
The photovoltaic panel + battery though might be worth looking into.

Shit I been unemployed a while now. This sounds like a nice job

also a fun fact: sawzalls dont make any noise near a flock camera. its one of natures little quirks.

4 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sawzalls can get damaged blades on the common aluminum poles they use, so hopefully any prospective terrorists cutting those things down don't have extra blades handy or a different tool to handle it!

It is often much more fruitful to use the knowledge you have yourself than it is to shout it into thee void hoping someone else will.

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If this hits FP, even MORE people will find out about it. Not cool, man.

Could this information be called part of Flocculation? you know, that process in which fine particles suspended in a liquid come together to form larger clumps called flocs, making it easier to separate them from the liquid.

This process is commonly used in water treatment to remove contaminants.

You know, shit.

"Hey, stupid people desperate for cash because you have drug problems, go solve our problem for us, yeah? We're too busy having jobs and working for the oppressors to do it, kthanxbye."

If, for whatever reason, you're upset by this message but AREN'T working for one of the many mega-companies, or are indeed protesting/striking/helping topple Trump's regime in some manner, then THIS ISN'T TALKING TO YOU. YOU'RE AWESOME, KEEEP IT UP!

Someones got to staff emergency services when addicts OD or take something sprayed with fentanyl

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you seen the economy?! We're ALL broke enough to consider it, even without drugs.

4 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And yet.

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if that's true. Might want to post this around several more places and ask people who are experts.

4 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Its not true but the components inside the camera and the solar panel is worth many times the price for a catalytic converter. They ironically did not skimp on the hardware in those things.

4 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The more useful thing to do would be to get out there and find out for yourself, but posting/joking about it online is way easier, so I guess folks'll just do that instead. Better to have hope that someone else'll do the dirty work than rrisk getting caught doing it yourself, right? That's how protests work, right?

They might not have much copper... but they do all have a PHD Energy rechargeable lithium ion battery. https://www.cehrp.org/dissection-of-flock-safety-camera/

I heard those are prone to fires when they overheat

My bad. Replied to the wrong comment.

Lemme translate some subtext here for you, friend: "Vague facetious excuse for reposting to more places so as to spread the message because surveillance state is bad."

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Oof. Replied to the wrong comment.

4 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It is most certainly not true. Gold is only used as a coating on electrical contacts in miniscule amounts, and copper is only worth about $6/lb.

4 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

Nice try, but I see right through the play, you just want all that scrap metal for yourself!

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The target audience doesn’t know or care if it’s true or not.

The need to be correct in this case isn’t the point.

4 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Sure they care, they have business interest in "borrowing" things. If they borrow flock cameras it's in our best interest, but they gonna find out quick how they are worthless and go back to borrow other things, maybe not in our interest anymore.

Did anyone tell Florida Man yet? He likes a challenge.

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, it's worth noting that following everyone's completely reasonable hatred for Flock, some places are switching to Axon cameras. Axon is no different from Flock when it comes to inhaling our data. Municipalities are going to spin this like it's an improvement over Flock. It's not. It's the same invasion of our privacy with a different logo. More, Axon also makes TASERs and has repeatedly pushed for nonsense medical diagnoses to cover up the fact that TASERs fucking kill people sometimes.

4 weeks ago | Likes 255 Dislikes 1

Yep the only cameras that should exist should be owned by the city and only accessible through court order.

4 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I wish that Flock cameras came to Sweden and the rest of the north so we could rid us of all illegal imigrants. Its a shame it has come to mass surveilance but if that is what is needed to get rid of the violent rape-people then so be it. I miss when Sweden was safe. A new study shows that 50% of the imigrants learning Swedish in SFI, are homophobes and hate HBTQI+.

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 12

I believe this an instance of Poe's Law. At least I really hope it is!

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The difference is that axon is partly owned by trump

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Are we talking about AXON, producers of the people-killing TASER?

4 weeks ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

Nice

4 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Funnily enough I just saw a pre-pitch media campaign from Axon called "De-Flock" so.... yeah. They're seeing this as an opportunity to pitch Axon as "the healthy alternative' which makes my skin crawl.

4 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Axon is partly owned by trump

4 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

... and they are making them harder to detect, making them look like normal traffic cameras, installing them higher on the actual street light pole...

4 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Suppressors are pretty much off the NFA now *wink wink*

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting. I bet the value of the rare metals inside the Axon cameras is no different than Flock cameras.

4 weeks ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Or at the least, close enough to still be worth it.

4 weeks ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The crackheads don’t need to be given different instructions

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

tasers and assorded stuff like beanbags are called "less lethal", not "non-lethal" for a reason. i am willing to bet you still would take a taser over a 9mm.

What's the tastiest brand of boot polish?

You seem like someone who'd know.

4 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I fucking hate that companies have to try and cover that shit up in the US to avoid lawsuits.

Let me be clear, FUCK Axon, and ACAB.

Having said that, bitches sueing over long term heath effects/death is the reason why police ended up with surplus military equipment instead of tasers/lasers/pepper spray/less lethal options.

No one sues the police or gun manufacturers because a bullet had a negative health impact. They might sue due to being shot, but police rarely lose those suits. 1/

4 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2/ When police use a gun, they can say they believed they were in danger. It's a lot harder for them to claim a persons death/lifelong injury was justified if they reached for a less lethal option instead.

Fucking lawsuits trained police to be MORE violent and dismissive of the safety of the public.

If a city has to choose between normal police violence, or bankrupting the local government, they choose killing us as the preferred result.

One more fucking thing made worse by capitalism.

Hey, so that thing where you think it's good for a company to cover up their problems?

Yeah, you're a dummy.

You should eat some dirt about it, fuckbrain.

4 weeks ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

A) you're an asshole.
B) how is it covering anything up? "Less-lethal" is the actual term. It's how they're marketed. The term literally means that it isn't NON-lethal. If you bothered using your brain, you'd see what it meant just fine.

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

A) Yes. You deserved it, fuckbrain.

B) A term dreamed up by marketing to cover up all the deaths they caused and pretend like ohhh they're innocent. Plus, y'know, all the literal coverups too: https://gijn.org/stories/how-they-did-it-reuters-massive-database-of-taser-deaths/

3) Use numbers, idiot, they make more sense. You bootlicking dummy. I'm the one not using their brain? I'm the one who points out the coverup isntead of licking their fucking murderous boots.

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you missed the most important parts of what I said.

4 weeks ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

i really didnt. the narrative that stuff like a taser doesnt kill is completly fabricated.

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 17

Nobody said tasers don't kill or they're nonlethal. What WAS said was that AXON is trying to say they're less dangerous than they are.

4 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

obviously. no company is going to admit how shit their products are.
