How does Wayne expect his 60-70 year old butler, to overpower these criminals? That's the thing about firearms: they level the playing field between everyone. A 90 lb waif can be as much of a danger as a 25 year old hardened criminal, the same as a 70 year old retiree.

It could make sense from a pure technicality since his parents were murdered with one. It's not like the absence of a gun is particularly restricting anyways.

The vehicles covered in guns are mainly an invention of the movies, specifically the Nolan ones since he just wanted an action movie with Batman's aesthetics but without retaining the character traits. In media not influenced by Nolan though, Batman does tend to avoid using guns. It's not an absolute rule for him, he will use lethal force if the circumstances require it, but it's very much a last resort rather than him being a ye-haw gun-car kinda guy.

It's really just his trauma. If his parents were stabbed instead of shot, Batman would use guns instead of sharpened batarangs. With less-lethal rounds, killing is still off the table.
