Man, you're hard to look at

The old Spyro doesn't look too bad and that's a PS1 game

I'm still taken back how great ICO and Shadow of the Colossus looks on my PS2.

480p and component cables help but yeah interlaced anything can be miserable.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Official Sony Component cable that is, and they are like Gold Dust.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really doesn't matter. As long as your component cables aren't total trash they'll work just fine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PS2? Bahhh playing PS1 games on a PS3 from disk. Then talk to me about low graphics by choice.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Going back to PS1 was difficult. PS2 doesn't bother me too much. Of course, now that I've been playing HZD that may change...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PS2 games looked fine. A lot of PS1 games looked fine. Even old Nintendo games looked good with the right artist. Atari is when they 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

looked like crap every time. Nowadays we have high detail games that look like shit because the artists suck ass.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Spectrum +3 user here so fuck you OP. I was born in the shit graphics. BBC Micro-formed by them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Won't have to worry since we are getting spyro remastered.

8 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 0

It looks so freaking good!!

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Goddammit. Do I need to go buy a PlayStation?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yes. Yes you do. Right now.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Will be on Xbox One as well. Potentially Switch if Nintendo UK's accidental posting of it on their store is to be believed.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

N64 GoldenEye multiplayer

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Especially on modern TVs. That shit is unplayable. So much frame rate lost when the smallest shit happens.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went back to Deus Ex often enough that I don't even notice. By this point, "ugly graphics" is like 80's or earlier.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We also played them on tiny standard definition tvs. So stretching those poor little pixels out on a 4k screen makes it look worse.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Back in 1989, I didn't think there was any possible way for games to look better than they did on my Sega Genesis. It was never gonna happen

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Replayed dark cloud recently, it's gorgeous when I wear my fancy shmancy nostalgia goggles!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

N64 looks terrible on a new TV, something to do with anti-aliasing hardware

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many games have GameShark codes to remove the anti-aliasing, but it does kinda change the "feel" of some games.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll say the same thing I said last time I saw this image... component cables. And if the game has the option, switch to Progressive Scan. 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The image will be far less blurry as a result. I've been going back to playing a bit of PS2 lately. :) 2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here. There's a GameShark code for Gran Turismo 4 to have cockpit view. Wild to see the detail in (some) of these cars.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bitch please, I still play Atari.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

GTA San Andreas, I tried giving CJ a jerry curl because I like Pulp Fiction, it's like he's wearing a damn hat

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did try Silent Hill 1 recently but damn was that painful to watch

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You gotta play those games that are "going for realistic" on a PVM. Then it's not so bad.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right, but when it first came out (20 years ago) remember how it was terrifying to watch instead?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yes, I do remember ????

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember the bitching about Fallout 4's graphics vs Fallout 3/New Vegas - I was thinking "Did you even play Fallout 3/New Vegas?"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I remember 3rd person was painful especially for NV because the walk/run animation was just so damn awkward. Def. something 4 improved on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's one thing Far Cry 5 really nails. The humans are very impressive.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fifth Gen systems (PS1/Saturn) era is probably the roughest looking.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Grab some decent component cables on eBay (anything but $5 from china cables) or try to track down a CRT that supports sVideo or component

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was me with Oblivion between when I first saw it at a friend's place, and when I played it again, 13 years later.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

hahahaha PS2 hahahaha, meanwhile i dick Ocarina of Time out... it was such a lovely game, what is that <.<

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Back when hands barely existed, faces were painted on, and repeating textures were painfully obvious. I kinda miss it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Games where the background is a simple moving wall look worse then when it's just solid. Looking at you, Cool Spot!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

LOL Fuck that BS.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

v

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah!! D is my jam!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you last played the thing on a 21" CRT, then plug it into a 55" LCD, it's a bit of a shock. Pixels as big as my face man....

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Some of the best games ever made don't look the best like Warcraft 3 or heroes of might and magic 3 but great gameplay will always win.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Homm 3 has a community made hd patch. So much better than the shitty cash crab "hd" version.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The hd version is only good because it can be played on ipad.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of it is because we've got way bigger TVs now, too. That said, I just fired up Tiger Woods 2003 and it's still pretty fun.

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

NFL 2k5 and the mid 2k Tigers are the best sports games.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All simulation games normally age very well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Solid game.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Was '03 the one with the Penguin Falls, Highland, and Jungle courses? Loved that game.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always remember the graphics to be so much better than they were

8 years ago | Likes 1061 Dislikes 0

Kingdom hearts still holds up pretty well

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When the remaster of OoT came out on 3DS, screenshots made me think it was just a lazy port. Then I looked at the original N64 graphics...

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Oblivion

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Morrowind

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah Oblivion for me after playing Skyrim first is weird, I have the same issue with Fallout 3 and 4 lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember saying how realistic football looked on a PS(1).

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

In some cases they are because screen resolutions can blur some games, and sometimes just handles differently due to age or ports.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

At the time they were groundbreaking. I remember first playing games on my N64 and thought this was it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You know what's fucked? Gta5 on ps3 after playing it on PS4.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Just wait until you play it on PC.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

True. But the download time.... oh dear god in heaven that download time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've learned having the T.V. or monitor to match the generation of game and system makes a huuuge difference. They don't look well on HDTV.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, mid-sized CRT is very forgiving with low resolutions.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Played Grand Turismo 2 and could even pick what the cars were, one of my favourite games back in the day

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm still on n64.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Blast Corp?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Low resolution CRT fuzz hides the sharp edges and lack of detail. Put it on a 1080p LCD, and, well....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's all relative

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're putting a 480p game onto a 40" HDTV, of course it looks like ass. Get your old CRT from the attic, it'll look waay better

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s the same as watching some early 2000 animation

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It's because the pixels had to work harder on a CRT TV so they were actually stronger, better pixels. Not like these lazy LCD pixels today!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went back and played some old games recently (PS2 Drakan and Godfather), and I was like "damn, this looks like ass", and felt bad because

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd made fun of WoW's graphical update from a while back saying it barely changed and looked like a PS1 game still. On actual comparison, it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

does not, but for some reason I can't forget the weirdness of WoW's graphics while playing it, but ten minutes into Drakan,my imagination is

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

back to filling in all the gaps. It's a surreal experience when you realise it's happening, and I'm confused it doesn't for some games.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on the game. One series that still holds up is the Jak and Daxter trilogy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Plays FF12 on PS4* Huh, looks like I remember. *plays FF12 on PS2* Oh jesus wait.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i care less about graphics , i still play old games , what i care more are "game play" lots AAA games seam to not have it or lack it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like take rimworld , game has one of more simplistic graphics but has to much game play and depth to game. and was made by mostly 1 guy

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rimeworld has depth? I played that game and watch other people play it and in my oppinion it is very boring idk.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in what other game you can create cannibalistic society who eats their enemies and harvest them for organs to sell them at open market?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm yes you have an argument there but the execution is what i do not like. I do love games tho where you can decide a lot of things

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like no mans sky , sea of thieves ,call of duty , metal gear survive , games without any balls or substance to them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, is sea of thieves bad? I was looking forwards to getting that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is literally no mans sky , all items are cosmetic only and you do quests for sake of doing quests and little content. :/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You just listed some of the worst releases in recent history so no shit lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there are worse , lots AAA games lack gameplay , they focus on looking pretty and you get bored of them in 10-30 hours

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I won't argue against that. I think the last game AAA game i was ecstatic to pay full price for was Witcher 3. It's actually why 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking that watching someone play AS Black Flag yesterday.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagination is a hell of a drug.

8 years ago | Likes 214 Dislikes 1

So is cocaine...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Not even once

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I member

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That and the CRT filter.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Idk the Jak and Daxter trilogy still look really good. As well as Kingdom Hearts.

8 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 3

Cartoony graphics age way better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn right!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed, they look great! But God damn Spiderman 2 looks like dog shit on an HDTV.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only good spider man game

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Republic Command has aged reasonably well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck me thats what i was thinking. Good ol' jak and daxter :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spyro still holds up really well even on ps1 cause they use polygons for their characters so all the details already there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After all these years, i still think the original Pikmin from the gamecube looks good. 2001

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came here to say just that. If anything, it's the controls that are hard. I've lost all that fine motor control you need to play them.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Have you actually played them in the past year? The original kh looks awful, it isn't really redeemable...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Haven’t played the original version since I was a kid, but the final mix for ps4 brings it up to a good spot

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, the remix looks fantastic. The original is really hard to look at because it came out in early 2002

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Art style goes a very long way when working with limited graphics.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's becausethey embracedthe cartoon-y. Windwaker still looks awesome too. And that's why Breath of Wind is so breathtaking.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

I am all about Cel-Shading: they decided to go artistic instead of realistic and the result is timeless

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No it's cause they were made by competant artists. FFX-XII also look great and they're not cartoony.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Why wpuld a Breath of Wind take my breath? It is already wind D:

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Would* dammit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You needn't apologize. Look how many spaces I forgot!
