Maybe this might have been avoided if there were some sort of device that did this before it entered the tunnel. Just saying
hurlex112
Got stuck in this traffic today lol. They literally shut down the whole tunnel at one point and traffic was backed up 20+ miles
DTryptophan
Route 1 was a damn parking lot this morning.
GlenL
That's not even a slight miscalculation, that load was like 4' too high

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP DRIVING WHEN THEY SEE THIS SHIT?! God damn, people piss the right the fuck off.

"Hmm. Now did that clearance sign say 15 feet or 15 meters?"
superpaul79
I'd be pretty terrified if I saw a 15 meter tall truck.
thefucksnotgiven
I'm laughing, it would face a fuck tone of air resistance and it has a godly chance of toppling over from a windy day or a slight turn.
nitroghost
ton or tonne? I wanna know if metric or dumb units ?
This is assuming it's 15 meters tall and still has a truck's average width. It's one LOOONG BOI!!!
xtrachrisp703
Ya think they'll just let the air out of the tires to get it out?
StephenDaniels
This is literally the 3rd time in 20 years that a Canadian truck driver has caused a huge traffic jam on 93. It must be a metric thing.
What a mess. They had to close the highway for like 3 exits right in the middle of the city. I had to go right through it at 7am.
Seriously. I left at 6 am this morning thinking my commute would be a breeze. Lol nope.
myfriendsaresodepressed
He really blew his load!
JackTheRippersBrotherHowie
uhm. it is more certainly NOT an oversized load. its an undersized tunnel.
ALurkingMassHole
Mass hole disapproves. Stuck shit ass traffic this morning b/c if this asshat

This is why I never want a boston commute

+1 for the proper use of flashers.

For years I went home a certain way, always oblivious to what was directly overhead. One day I looked up as I crossed one of four bridges 1/
(four within about four miles) and noticed one of the overhead beams was bent and twisted. Though "that's odd" and kept ob driving. 2/
Next day I take a better look, since I was expecting it this time, and wouldn't ya know it, every beam on every bridge was bent, twisted 3/
Or in some cases, torn or removed. Now I know Washington's roads and especially our bridges are shit but every God damn beam over the 4/
Right hand lane of these highway brodges is fucked up or gone and yet, five years later, none have been fixed. Infact more are damaged. 5/
It gets better because a few years back a larger bridge north of the four I drive over was in a similar condition and one day a semi 6/

dude u gotta be kidding right? there is a nation wide joke about Swift, they "train" literally anybody...
BrooceWayyne
Look up the height restriction in Boston big dig. Two different tunnel heights. It’s not entirely the drivers fault
wahtdoyouwantfromme
That driver in the car behind though.
whatafiasco
I don't see the problem,it's not oversize anymore.
pre1989
As many bad tunnel fires /disasters we have had this scares me a lot
sproutimusad
Fun fact, at the Dartford tunnel in the UK we have a radar to sense overheight vehicles and also a bus full of spotters to intercept
Drek258
Even funner fact, my family has a challenge to see who holds their breath the longest when going through that tunnel.
A dangerous game with the traffic around there!
We nearly died a few times.
aceofsnett
Truck driver here. Maximum height for trucks without special permits is generally 13' 6". One of the Boston tunnels is 13' 8", one is 12' 9"
Local news coverage says the tunnel could handle a max of 13' 6" and was marked accordingly.
bestdog
And I'm sure they aren't labeled, right?
Of course they're labeled. All bridges under 14' have to be in Massachusetts, legally. Bridge heights are a big thing.
It was a joke- so how about this> The driver can read, right?
kakivara
They decided to build a major infrastructure tunnel that's 9 inches smaller than max non-permit size?
roadhog123
The Sumner and Callahan tunnels were opened in 1934 and 1961 respectively, when trucks were smaller, so 12'6" max height wasn't an issue.
temujin9
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dig#Problems . . . yeah, not surprised.
JHawke
Everyone who has ever done infrastructure work raise your hand if you're surprised. *keeps hands down*
Wow. I wonder if they had to consult the geniuses at MIT to figure out those dimensions or if they thought of that all by themselves.
Meaning he was either incredibly stupid or the load was over the average height of the majority of trailers. I can't tell which tunnel it is
ozjuggler
Yes, without knowing distance and camera angle, I cannot tell if the box is taller than standard 8'6" or the truck bed is higher than 52".
C141Clay
yes
MeAnd2Bs
It was the O'Neill.
thedarkcanuck
That looks well over 15'
If so, it's amazing he made it that far
Of course his truck is a flat top, so it's hard to tell. Either way, if there's only one tunnel in Boston and it only gives 2" clearance...
