I work at a nonprofit that works with clients with intellectual disabilities. We teach job skills and basic literacy. One person I work with needs one on one time to make progress, but I was told we don't have enough staff to do that. So, I've been doing it on my own time, and after 30 years of not understanding, he was able to write the whole alphabet on his own today.

My niece has learning disabilities, was mute till she was 5... now is literate, articulate despite her speech impediment, and is working

Was tutoring a woman in her late 20s for awhile, whose reading was about kindergarten level. Good on you, man. It's challenging.

That's great. I once fit a support call from a guy who needed help hooking up his printer, it was tough cause he couldn't read.

I once had to help an old lady over the phone with her internet, that didn't know she could move the cursor on her screen using the mouse.

Computer UIs are pretty intuitive nowadays. A lot of my clients that struggle to read still get around social media without issues.
