Here at the end of the tournament, I’d like to thank the few of you who actually participated. It’s been a load of work (with not much to show for it), but I do enjoy creating this kind of thing. May the funniest movie win!

This isn't some click-bait crap. I built this entire thing just to entertain you people for a few days. This ridiculous "tournament" is for those (like me) who aren't particularly excited about college basketball, but who do love movies.

I've compiled a list of 256 comedy movies, stretching from 2017 all the way back to the 1920s, and just for grins and giggles we're going to have our very own March Madness where we decide which is the funniest movie of all time. (Yes, I'm entirely aware that this won't actually prove a damn thing.)

The nuts and bolts: This list was compiled by myself and some movie-loving friends. It was quickly obvious that 64 entries couldn't scratch the surface of the comedy movie genre, and we tried to bump it up to 128 movies. This turned out to still not be enough. We all know there are titles in this list that really don't belong in a list of the Greatest Comedy Movies, but to keep it at a (somewhat) sane 256 movies it had to get padded here and there.

In proper March Madness style, I broke up the movies into groups of 16 and ranked them based on their User Ratings on IMDB.com as of 22 February 2018. (Number of votes breaks ties.) The 1st-ranked movie of each bracket will face off against the 16th-ranked movie, and 2 vs. 15, etc.

Each day's "games" will include one match from each of the sixteen brackets, and the first round will continues for eight days until Round 1 is complete. Then we'll kick off Round 2 with the remaining 128 movies in the same manner, and then Round 3, etc.
