That’s wonderful. And the interview was hilarious. He seemed a bit nervous at first and his accent not so pronounced, then 1/2 through the interview I needed a translator.
I met a Chinese gentleman in the scary part of Louisiana who had the thickest bayou accent. My brain couldn't align what I heard to what I saw, I literally had to ask if he was fucking with me. Turns out a huge group immigrated from China a few generations back, found a nice little spot and just learned english from the locals. I should give him a call, see how he's doing
Apologies. Did not mean to hurt you (I share the pain). But I did think Type17 at least deserved more recognition and hopefully upvotes for the effort :)
I looked up slurry as I was curious and it turns out farm slurry is a mixture of water and cow manure and this guy’s job is to spread it. Helped a little with picking up other bits and pieces with that context in mind.
He's at The National Ploughing Championships, which are held every September in a central location in Ireland (just held this week, and this year was the third year it was held at Ratheniska, Co Laois (pronounced 'leash')). It started as purely a competition for the best ploughing skills, but has now developed into a three-day behemoth with an attendance of 244,000 people on 800 acres. Probably similar to a State Fair in the US. More info: https://www.npa.ie
Wow that actually looks like a good time, and as a Norwegian who hasn't been below the arctic circle in about a decade, it sounds like I won't boil to death in heat either.
24 degrees C is a hot day in Ireland. The all time record is around 31degC, so yes, it’s fairly nice in summer - you know it’s summer because the rain is warmer.
hehe :D We had nearly 24C here above arctic circle for about a week, so I can handle that. But I'd have to visit france or such in winter to survive XD
Interviewer: So, tell us your name and where you’re from, yourself. Eoin Lynch: Eoin Lynch from Mitchelstown in Cork, Munster. I: And, eh, how’s the Ploughing* going for you, today? (*National Ploughing Championships) EL: Savage, savage heat, bet all out, so it would. (*He’s tired from the heat. Savage = intense, either good or bad). We’re enjoying it, now, there a load of various saws all about the place (machinery displays) so, ‘tis good now, ‘tis goin’ a good now.
I: And I suppose, anything in particular that you have an interest in, at the Ploughing, or? EL: Slurry, Jaaz (Jesus) I love the slurry gear, eh, lot of slurry, I just think about slurry, I eat slurry, and dream about slurry, that’s, that’s my motto now, so, yeah… I: And, sure, what are you going to do now, when the season’s wrapped up on the 1st of October? EL: Spreadin’ Parlour Washings, that’s, that’s, that’s what we’re going to go at now, spreadin’ parlour washings…
I: And what kind of a tractor would you catch you in? EL: Eh, Case 165, now, would be my baby, now, I wouldn’t like to be seen in a John Deere, now, but, that’s the craic now… I: And how do you like the Cases? EL: Savage job now, super job now, they’re well, they’re well manufactured now, in fairness to them, eh, we deal with a crowd Lynch-McCarthy, below in Cork, and they’re, they’re savage dealers now, in fairness, a big shout out to them, so yeah.
I think... *THINK* they were talking about tractors? I'm fairly sure I heard "John Deere" and "Case 165". That was pretty much all I could decipher from these two lovely blokes 😂
The Ploughing championship is like the Super Bowl for farmers, loads of farming equipment showcased, livestock, start up companies for bio farming. Great day out for the family. And a beer tent would you believe 😏
I was so shocked when talking to someone only from the UK, and they were pitching about pikies. I, for some reason, had just assumed it was a movie think.
People are downvoting this thinking it's malicious. In the UK we had a light-hearted docu-series called "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" which was ostensibly humorous and well-meaning, but actually showed that traveler communities endorse a system where young men "grab" teenage girls, rape them, everyone says "oh she's his now" and then they get married and pump out dozens of children (no contraceptives). It was and still is harrowing.

What's slurry in this context? Cuz for northern Americans, slurry is a mix of snow and ice. And I sure hope he's not dreaming of eating that.
RoseThistle
Pretty sure it's the term for water + manure, primarily cattle ("cow") feces. Basically acts as a convenient fertilizer source for the soil.
