Autocrats also always seem to think "it'll work out differently for me than it did for Ceaușescu. I'm going to be fine."

The only thing that stops facists is death. Luckily, you Americans live in a country where you have many death applicators. They come in a variety of tasty calibers. Get to work. If the lads in Nepal can tear down their government and fix it in a few days, so can you.

Only non-Democratic solutions are effective in restoring democracy.

What? Who could benefit from a post that tells Democrats it's useless to vote!

But what if we hold signs and chant? Or try to change their minds with honest discourse? That will work, right? /s

I wish people could see where things were going before they actually got there. When people finally realize what has to be done to stop them, it will require a lot more sacrifice if victory is even possible at all.

The average person isn't fully aware of what is going on around them, they see the part, not the whole. Those who do see it are scared to take action, for fear of death or life long imprisonment (which may also include torture)

It does happen.

was the ukraine guy voted out?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t remember exactly but they didn’t have a civil war about it. At least not then.

But I thought the Ukraine person was a woman? You might be thinking of the Hungarian asshole; he’s still in office.

Didn't Poland overcome this?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

by being overrun and made part of a fascist empire? No, that is not a solution.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Some weeks ago, Poland elected a fascist.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

STFU! STOP JUST STOP!! THEY STOLE THE ELECTION. They "won" nothing democratically. You're an effing asshole for instigating shit.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh fuck off with this BluAnon bullshit. The Republicans won the elections by getting more votes. They spent 40+ years gathering and putting the foundations into place. They followed the laws and rules of elections. And they won the elections. Was it a dirty win? Yep, but they did what liberals wouldn't do, so they now control the government democratically.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stop. You all need to stop saying 'not yet' and 'there's still some steps'. No you need to stop being reasonable. You need to stop discussing it. Nazis cannot be reasoned with. They have already declared war. YOU need to admit that to yourselves.

Organize. Get together and start arresting by YOUR authority. It starts with WE, THE PEOPLE. You are responsible for what happens in your country every day. Own it.

stop working for them. the only power they have, is money.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Sure, we don't need to eat have anywhere to live in the meantime. I agree with the sentiment but logistically that doesn't work

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

realy? you say, you need people like donald trump to earn money? you got knowledge. you got power. you can organize . today it is so much easier to organize and work together with all this social media stuff. get together, build your own business and help other people instead of buying bullshit or give all the money to your boss.it will still be not easy, but it will be honest.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Didn't both the British and Italians get rid of them after electing them just recently though? Granted they actually had their Congress equivalents not pandering to the fascists so they could actually impeach them

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure, but getting rid of them is fun when they're voted out.....

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

There is not going to be another fair election in America. That is not hyperbole

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

There hasn't been since 2000. And yeah, when people realize that the ballot box doesn't work anymore the next step is.... well there.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

IF you beat them in whatever contest it comes down to, I recommend putting each and every one of them on the business end of every one of their worst policies. And remind them with video about their attitudes when they complain about it.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

fascism is a fatal disease, you can only survive by cutting it out and burning it to the last scrap. The united states left too many of their slavers alive, which made trump possible

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So when cheaters write the rules, the legit players can never win? Shocking... color me so fucking shocked...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, the last election is still questionable, but there was a tremendous onslaught of disinformation, domestically and foreign sourced (Russia FSB most definitely). Social platforms kept open, they were flooded. FOX News spewed false propaganda 24/7.

Republicans are actively working to undermine the next election. Gerrymandering being forced way ahead of schedule protocol. It's a serious concern. And we know if Republicans lose the House, Trump will cry "FRAUD!" and make 2020 look tame.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No, you're wrong. Spain returned to democracy peacefully after Franco died. So did Germany, Italy and Japan after some outside help. And as has been mentioned in other comments, there is Brazil. Also there is hope for Hungary and Belarus. Who knows, maybe after Putin Russia is in store for a "new day".

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

I wouldn't call a world war that killed upwards of 50 million people "some outside help"

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Some outside help" does some heavy lifting. In the meantime, German fascists devastated Europe, Italians devastated north Africa and all fascists and reactionaries devastated the east, killing millions. Sure, "they returned to democracy". After being beaten in the bloodiest war of human history.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

./clippy resurrects from the grave. It looks like you need some outside help. Do you want to unleash the sun on that city? "some outside help" understatement of the year... some people right?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Franco ruled Spain for forty fucking years, and the only reason they returned to democracy is because Basque separatists ensured that his hand-picked successor wasn't in a position to assume the presidency shortly before Franco died (it's interesting that you consider enough explosives to throw a car over a five-story church "peaceful"). Referring to Germany, Italy, and Japan as "peacefully returning to Democracy" is such a butchering of the term "peaceful" as to render it meaningless.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey, people stayed real hushed while the bombing runs were being conducted overnight. They did not even dare to light a candle. Everyone was inside their houses by 7:00 and curled up in blankets in a corner of their house which remained standing. No block parties or hooligans getting upto trouble on the streets past bedtime. If you think that is not peaceful, we can't be friends /S

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ukraine and the Orange Revolution, might show us a thing or two. I find this conclusion highly subjective, otherwise.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So here's the thing that kills me about these kinds of posts. You don't think the Democratic process can save us? Okay, so let's entertain that thought. What do you suggest? Armed revolution? Okay. Who's organizing it? I'll assume the ones calling for it are armed up and ready to march into the streets, so when do we start?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a year ago. Fascist regimes rarely fall from the inside. Mussolini had to lose a war before he was hanged. Hitler didn't shoot himself until the red army was at his door step. Portugal is a rare case where the army had enough shit and deposed the dictator. Usually the war was to start from the outside. The fall of the USSR and the eastern block was a case of pure economic collapse. When you can't pay the army, the army lets you fall.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't answer question, though. Fascism may only rarely collapse on their own, but armed revolutions also frequently fail without some sort of central leadership and a plan for the backside to rebuild, neither of which anyone ever seems to consider. My point is there seem to be awful lot of people on the internet who seem more than happy to talk about throwing lead around and burning shit down, and they're underwear gnomes. They know Step 1 and Step 3, but Step 2 is a giant question mark.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh stop acting like what is happening in the US is unique, it's following the same patterns as any other take over. There is a breaking point for things to happen, it'll happen in the US too. It's easy to say something when it's not your ass on the line.

My ass is on the line.

I’ve been calling this shit since 2000. My friends thought I was crazy. Yelling ignored warnings like Cassandra.

I don’t believe in this country or its people any more.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We're not talking about living here, we're talking about being out there and actively fighting, those are two different things. I hate the US too but Im well aware of where things stand and what I can personally do. It's easy to call for violence when you have nothing to lose, or no one depending on you.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Take notes from France, Germany or Spain.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Leaving. Hanging out till my kids old enough to go to college. Sell the house, send her out of the country on a student visa. Wish her a better life.

Get me and the wife out of I can.

Last decade of my life has left me with the beliefs that most of us are not worth fighting for.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

Talk to everyone near you. Organize. Get connected to as many others as possible for revolution.

Leaving is forfeiting the nation and allowing this enormous fascist player to remain on the world stage for everyone else to now deal with too.

The reason you report abusers is not only justice, but to save those they might abuse in the future.

Many heroes began as cowards...

It's better to die fighting than live in fear

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

If*

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And for those of us who can’t or are unable to leave? What should we do?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s entirely up to you. Maybe one day we’ll get mad enough to have the strength of the Nepali people. I’m not sure I’ll see that in my life time.

What’s most likely is we will be a mirror to Russias current state and the EU will have to send javelin missiles to Canada.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're a selfish coward and the type of person who has led to America being taken over by conservatives. Liberals constantly ran away from Purple States, and now they are solidly Red. Liberals fled from organizing voter blocs, and now the GOP controls the Federal Gov. Over and over again. Liberals are cowards who run. Eventually the fascists will find you when you run out of hiding places.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m right there with you. But there are issues with parents health both on my side and my wife’s side, plus the kid’s in school. My wife and I JUST briefly talked about this this morning. I’d love to move to Northern Europe, but we don’t have the money to drop and leave. And the issues regarding the health of relatives is front and center.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don’t want to move anywhere with any large presence in the international media. This fire of fascism is going to burn everywhere.

For me and the wife… cheapest moves are Vanatua and like… Paraguay.

Both of our fathers are dead already. And mothers still good with their boomer blinders on.

Yeah but they need to vote for *checks notes* Pete Buttigieg? in the next elections and THEN something will happen. (PRO TIP: what will happen is they'll lose again.)

1 year ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 13

America had it's test run with a 1/2 black president(voted in nearly 2 decades ago now) and it was soundly rejected by the majority of voting Americans. I love Pete. He's very smart and does a great job of clearly articulating the issues in a simple way many can understand. But sadly.... the majority of America will not vote for a black person, gay person, non-Christian or woman again in my lifetime.

1 year ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 11

He's also more corporatist status quo, he's another centrist which is a braindead approach, didn't work with Biden, didn't work with Kamala, the US needs an actual leftist populist, you can't beat fascism with more of the same bullshit that let it fester and grow in the first place

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

It sucks, but I don't believe that a leftist populist can win right now, either, frankly. Roughly half of the Democratic electorate either leans conservative or is straight-up centrist.

They will vote for a "reasonable Republican" over a leftist populist every day of the week. And yes, you and I know there aren't any of those, but the non-progressive half of the Dem voting base is only slightly less delusional than MAGA about the state of our government.

You can forget about the GOP voters.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

How do you mean, "didn't work with Biden"? He beat Trump, didn't he?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And yet he's back in office, so it didn't work, just another band-aid on a gaping chest wound

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it sounds like you're moving the goalposts a little here.

Biden actually did a pretty good job at getting the economy back on track after it all went to hell under Trump, such as creating jobs and tackling inflation. Unfortunately most Americans are economically illiterate and many watch Fox News, so they thought the inflation was Biden's fault, when it was largely a consequence of Trump's policies (or lack of them).

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't really see him personally as more corporate status quo, especially when comparted to Biden or Harris, but... to each their own. That being said, I completely agree the democrats are a weak milquetoast center right party at this point, hell 30 years, and moving more and more to the right to chase the right vote is losing strategy. The US needs an actual populist left party. Their vacuum has simply let the maga-nazis suck it up.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Center democrats have shown the ability to move leftward when given a push via primaries etc.

But the left left can’t be bothered to show up for these things. Or can’t agree on a unicorn candidate that satisfies everyone with zero compromises.

The right votes and then steers the party once elected. The left demands the candidate come to them preemptively and doesn’t show up at the polls.

Remember, I’d you don’t vote you don’t exist politically.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Very true, purity testing will be the death of democracy. People are idiots, it's obviously easier and preferable to organize under a neo-lib than a fascist but since dem candidates are still garbage, better than Republicans by miles but still garbage, those purity testers will just throw their hands up and let the entire thing burn down. Infuriatingly shortsighted and emotionally fragile

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It doesn't even bother you that much that she lost despite being more popular?

I mean, I agree she was a lousy candidate, but that's a pretty terrible electoral system right there, isn't it?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Soundly rejected? How fucking stupid are you? Hillary was rejected cause no one wanted her in the first place while the racists were given their shithead to rile them up. This has nothing to do with who the American people want and everything to do with the machine that is pushing the fascist agenda down the throats of the poor and uneducated while rigging a system for their reps to win seats. Obama is still beloved by normal people, if you hate Obama, well it's usually easy to guess why.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Hillary beat Trump by nearly 3M votes but was fucked over by the electoral college.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

She never bothered to try and really campaign. She thought it was her turn. Said she was right and he was wrong and that should be enough and funny thing is that failed twice. She wouldn't let the real candidate people wanted (Bernie) push her aside again. Crazy thing is that no matter who won that election, the Epstein files would have been important.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, I'm aware she was a pretty poor candidate, and if she'd been more popular she would have won, even with the inbuilt pro-GOP bias of the electoral college.

As far as Bernie beating Trump, I don't know. Maybe he would have done - maybe he'd had have lost worse than she did. But if they'd gone with Bernie as candidate, at least they'd have known if there was any mileage in a left-wing candidate. They went with the 'safe' candidate and lost anyway.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I get what you're saying but there's nothing wrong with Pete in particular.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

There’s quite a bit actually, go look up early primary videos, he was a progressive initially, the moved to center right the second it presented an opportunity. He’s a phony just like newsom. We can do so much better than Pete

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I closely watched that election. He was pretty objectively one of the better candidates available. Pete then spent the entirety of the Biden administration doing a good job at DoT and was one of the most effective political communicators on the left. Probably should have been the 2020 nominee.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Can't imagine being stupid enough to think this when he presided over disasters on air, land, and sea (Boeing, East Palestine train crash, Baltimore bridge collapse). He's also a racist who fired South Bend's black police chief who caught white officers using slurs and used a list of fake endorsements from prominent African-Americans in a failed attempt to gain black support.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except for him being a corporate-owned stooge, who won't do anything beyond talking. Shitheads like Pete are a big part of the reason why we have Trumpism. Status quo Dems have got to go. Voters don't want the BS they're selling. They've made that abundantly clear. America can't afford another one of these milksops. We need an actual leader who will fight for actual change instead of protecting a broken system.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This is a pretty bad take tbh. Very difficult to take someone seriously who thinks Pete is "the reason why we have Trumpsim."

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

How many times are you going to try that argument and fail before you try running an actual progressive who might actually be popular? Advocating for The lesser of two evils is how you get 90 million people not voting at all.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's not about being sure. Its about voter apathy. Voters are apathetic about voting for 'ish candidates that don't represent what they want out of an elected representative. Most people are not 'voting against' the opposition, their voting for someone that represents their interests.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

They are vibe voting and just want to hear the right things. The problem is that the left will punish their side for not doing enough and the right doesn't. The right gets to make all the promises. They will give you ponies, unicorns and dragons. Then they show up and shoot your dog, zero consequences. Our only chance for an ideal candidate was to prevent him from wining to begin with. Then and only then could we have been "pickier". People played games and now we all lost.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Not sure why I'm getting downvoted. Do people actually think that the US is sort of progressive nation that would put a gay man in the Whitehouse? Have y'all never left your liberal echo chamber?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He’s fine-ish, but moved pretty far right over time, and sold out pretty hard to corporate/donor interests.

As corporate dems go, he’s probably the best option, but we really need to stop trying to win with that, it never works. For him especially, since the soft conservatives corporate dems always want to woo would probably have an issue with Pete being a gay man. Better to run an actual progressive than someone in the middle again.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He's a competent and successful gay man. That's enough for about half the country to hate him, sadly.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I was listening to people covering this exact topic awhile back and Trump's missing one very important thing all successful fascist dictators had.

A high approval rating.

It would seem for as long as we've been able to record such things, every fascist dictator took over in a coup with a 90+% approval rating in said country.

Meanwhile trump is competing with himself for the lowest rating ever and actively bleeding supporters thanks to him destroying their lives financially

So some hope

As of June 2025, Vladimir Putin's approval rating among Russians was 86%, but this approval rating is dubious since Russians fled the country when the invasion of Ukraine turned sour. Putin has had the biggest protests in Russian history, and that is not an exaggeration. Not to mention that he is constantly killing political opponents, including the ones we don't hear about.

There is no reason to deny that Trump will do the same.

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

That's one of the two reasons he had Kirk killed. The other was to distract from the Epstein files.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One other thing - none started out as old or in such poor health as him. Our best hope is a heart attack

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there will be no (fair) "next election". There will be marshal law declared in blue state and cities and those vote will never be counted and their representatives not seated. National Guard in Chicago, DC and Portland is just a warm up. The Texas leg is already putting rules in place to throw out the vote in Houston. The time has passed.

Trump is also gonna die, and they’re not going to have anyone to replace him or keep the coalition together. Hopefully. I am a little worried that they’re going to successfully beat the clock, at this point; he needs to die really, really soon now, I think...

Actively bleeding supporters. Really? I mean okay, the link I just looked at says he's down a few percent for this month relative to last. But at the same time I've also been reading tons of [anecdotal, I guess] examples where people will actively come out and say they'd let Trump rape their own daughter. Also, the survey that was just released which showed 75% of Trump supporters said they'd still support him even if his name was in the Epstein files. His base isn't going anywhere, IMO.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but they hold all three branches of government and are changing laws to keep them.

Also, Teflon Don is the only one his base finds immune to criticism. Everyone else Mr Tangerine Man has actively sown distrust in. Gonna be chaos once he kicks it

Lol, the most of the vote Hitler ever got in a remotely free and fair election was 37% you are living in dreamland. Dictators record their own approval ratings.

When he dies his movement dies with him. He’s surrounded by incompetent opportunist vultures. This movement comes apart when the factions in the movement compete for dominance. They’re already doing it. There’s no one to operate, or maintain the Trump machine when he goes. The man can’t stand the idea of a successor because he has no values. It’s all bullshit.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

If you think they don't have a plan for when Trump dies, that's just lack of imagination. I said it when Project 2025 first came to light, if THAT is what they realese to the public, what the hell are they planning behind closed doors? Sadly, I don't see any end to this without violence. I'm convinced people will not wake up in enough numbers to matter until it is either nearly too late or too late.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. This is more of a cult than a political movement.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There is a fascist movement riding Trump, and the cult. Without Trump they will lose the cult.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The powerful "THRUST" of the movement will be severely cut, but the movement won't die. The question is... who is poised to take over? JD Vance is certainly not that person. The right-wing barely tolerates him. Stephen Miller is a fascist extremist.

I think they were hoping Elon Musk would end up rising to the occasion and they'd find a way to override the "natural born citizen" rule. But Musk is a mess. Speaker Johnson is a meek little weasel. So... who could it be?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I really hope it does what it seems like it will do and it fractures into a bunch of different subgroups that hate each other, that will basically take the wind out of their sails.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don’t see anyone in their landscape. Trump would perceive this person as a threat right now.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly, and by eliminating those threats, he also sets up the empire to fail.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does it need to be an actual approval rating, or just one that is reported?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There have t been successful fascist dictatorships.and their approval rating was high because they deleted disapprovers.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

except trump doesn't give a fuck. he's in now, and has what he needs. the people and the will of the people are now null and void to him. he has his SS of ICE, his bodyguards in courts and congress and senate to protect him, so what's left to threaten him?

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

If a tsunami of voter turnout causes a flipping of the House to Democrats, it won't be settled easily. Trump will cry "FRAUD!" immediately and use everything in his power to muster doubt about the election. He will try to override it. Of course, his claims will be totally hollow. But I wouldn't put it past Miller architecting a false flag operation to make it look like there was intentional fraud. I really fear November of 2026. It's going to be a nightmare, no matter which way you look at it.

This is death by 1000 cuts if you look at the things stephen miller , steve bannon said or listen to the senators or reading project 2025 this is going to take time, and they have 3 years. I dont think trump will even make it to the end. I think he is a useful idiot who will be discarded along the way for someone worse.

1 year ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

THIS IS TRUE. But, it does make you wonder about statistics. Look what Trump just did. A jobs number report he didn't like made him fire the non-partisan head of labor statistics. She was just doing her job. Now he's inserting a loyalist in her place.

Trump is an idiot. Clever, and intimidating, but makes so many blunders. People are pissed. But if the GOP loses the House? He will definitely cry foul with no proof, making 2020 look tame by comparison.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's definitely the cleverest idiot going.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That’s simply not accurate. The Nazi party wasn’t the majority party. They mirror our situation pretty well, a minority hate group takes control and changes the rules, stuffing positions with incompetent loyalists. The recorded popularity of despots is always absurdly high BECAUSE THEY SAY WHAT IS TRUE.

1 year ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Yep. Up until the day they took over, the Nazis never controlled above 30% or so of the vote in the reichstag. But the bigger coalitions all ignored them and fought amongst themselves, which let them manage to gain a controlling interest in the government and a chancellorship despite being a minority party. At which point they immediately used their new power to disenfranchise the other parties to ensure they'd *stay* in power.

1 year ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

In the November 1932 election (the last even vaguely free election before Hitler was appointed Chancellor), they got 33% of the votes. That was still enough to give them more seats than the next two parties - the SPD and KPD - combined, though.

The reason Hitler was appointed Chancellor was that he promised Hindenburg that he could deliver a functional coalition government that wouldn't need the borderline abuse of emergency decree powers to get any legislation passed.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't count the March 1933 election because the words "free", "fair" or "democratic" can't be used due to Hitler unleashing the SA on the other parties. Even then, they didn't secure a majority (43%) which is why the Enabling Act was rammed through with the support of Zentrum and the DNVP.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're literally being taken over by modern day nazis and Mamdani still can't get an endorsement from Schumer or Jeffries. History doesn't repeat, instead it rhymes.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yup. We never *really* learned the lesson of earlier far right groups. People forget the Nazis weren't jackboots and gas chambers day 1, and so they'll *obviously* see the next ones coming. But movements like that don't go full supervillain until they know there's noone left to stop them. TFG himself, and the MAGA movement as a whole ,owes its current power, and possibly even its existence at all to people assuming they're too fringe or too small to bother uniting against for too many years.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Any elected official with a vote that wins by more than 60% is a red flag. Votes are counted in the margins, with exceedingly few instances of large groups agreeing on anything, let alone 90+% agreeing on who should be in charge

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Except that’s why they are removing the vote.
Look at the USSR. Do you think that the Soviet premiers were popular when people starved on sawdust bread? Of course not! But what recourse did they have when they would be crushed and shot if they protested? Most people will keep their heads down and suffer under a regime in the hopes that maybe it will fall sometime later.

1 year ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 4

It took the economic collapse and troops refusing to shoot citizens for Russia to collapse. Trump will handle the economic collapse just need peaceful protests for the rest

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But they were popular when they initially took control in the Revolution. It doesn't matter if they maintained the popularity, that's what the violence is for. It matters if they ever had it. He did not.

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

No they weren't they actually never got more than 25 percent of the vote. There was an election shortly before the revolution so we know this for sure

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I would think the people would really hate the group that overthrew their own revolution and interim government because they didn't like the idea that the people wwre forming a democracy and not a 1 party totalitarian state

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He had enough popularity to seize power. Remember how evil most Americans are.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Again, for like the 5 millionth time, he didn't seize power, he stole an election. And it is most Americans, its barely 1/4.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

isn't*

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He won fair and square with 50% of the votes. Or 1/3 if you want to include everyone who could have voted but didn't.

The 25% figure is nonsense based on the idea that children can vote, which they obviously can't.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

So...... he took something. Something that wields a lot of power. One might say he even seized it.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk if this is entirely true. Brazil just voted out and jailed their wanna be dictator. He was opening calling for a military coup.
Once the courts are corrupted is when the real problems start, or the legislature willfully hands over its powers to the executive.
And neither of those things have happened yet.....

1 year ago | Likes 231 Dislikes 11

Well, you are slightly incorrect. Brazil elected someone before it got as bad as it did. Had Balsonaro won a second time, they'd be right here. We did the same by going to Biden, but we failed to hold Trump accountable and now we're here.

The right is always projecting and by calling us the violent left, they are telling everyone that we are gonna get violent and remove them.

There are two sides in Brazil.

One is the fascist side. The other is ther antifascist side, obviously. Lula is a hero of the international working class, who has condemned the Zionist genocide and supports 2S+LGBTQQIA rights.

Decent people (and you very clearly aren't one) support Lula in his fight against fascist Bolsonaro.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Its not true at all, there are dozens of examples of countries sliding into authoritarianism and pulling back. This isn't even new for the USA arguably since we had Nixon doing a lot very authoritarian things. Fascism is ultimately just a label.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg what? Your supreme Court is already gone and many of your lower courts.

Also your legislature has been handing over powers like no one's business.

Are you some kind of pro trump bot?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sarcasm?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The courts already favor the white, upper class.... what exactly is left for them to take?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the difference between winning an election and seizing power. Bolsanaro did the former but didn't get round to the latter. Trump has done the former, and it remains to be seen whether he's achieved the latter.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Didn't the court have a justice taking bribes and still keep his seat? How do you honestly believe they aren't corrupted?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In the July 2024 case of Trump v. United States, the Court granted presidents broad protections from criminal prosecution for official acts performed while in office. and In June 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. CASA that lower federal courts have limited authority to issue nationwide injunctions against presidential policies. They've been slowly handing it over

1 year ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 2

that "yet" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Brazilian I’d like to add 2 points about our case and where it may unfortunately differ from the US:

1. The courts didn’t bend the knee: our Supreme Court is luckily much more moderate than the US, and have repeatedly ralied behind Alexandre de Moraes in his fight for democracy. Will SCOTUS act the same?

2. The left has a very charismatic and beloved face: Bolsonaro didn’t just lose the election, he was beaten by Lula, and it had to be Lula. What’s the face of the American left?

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

AOC, most likely.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No shade on AOC, but definitely not her. AOC leans left, but she still didn't explicitly denounce genocide. She also lacks the experience or skill to project her message as say, Bernie.

AOCs popularity is largely a creation of right-wing media. Their intention was to make her the avatar of the left, while painting her an inexperienced, dumb, uppity woman of color. Turns out she's actually pretty intelligent and steadfast, and subsequently gained experience. Maybe in 10-15 years, but not yet.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Then who?

I keep getting the feeling on here that everyone subscribes to the "no true scotsman" view of the populist left.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a general feeling of "no true scotsman" probably because the Democratic Party leadershik has been so, so disappointing.

I don't know the answer to "who", but the left leaning pols with the best chances are probably Beshear or Pritzker. I wouldn't even call Pritzker left, but at least he seems to have some interest in helping people.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Korea did too. Difference is, the other politicians actually helped to get rid of them. Ours are outnumbered by the sycophants

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That happened after Lula came to power. We should have done after Jan 6 during Biden, now maybe too late

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The moment our courts became compromised we became fucked. I don't think the military will disrespect unlawful orders at this point. Turns out this system of rules and laws we built were just pinky swears. "He can't do that!" hasn't stopped him yet. Everyone is perfectly placed to kiss his ass. Unqualified people who have had zero experience in the positions they hold but swore loyalty to him.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The military was never going to refuse unlawful orders. The amount of right wing lunatics who go into the military is just as bad if not worse than those that go into the police force

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Brazil got hella violent, I don't know where you are coming from there. And in the US they haven't quite gotten the reins entirely, somehow they are still so inept they keep jumping the gun. THe mid terms are the last chance to end what is going on in the US without open violence, and even a win there you will still have some pockets occuring.

1 year ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

I don’t think the midterms will be canceled - I could be wrong, but I think their strategy will be to stifle progressive messaging across all the media platforms they own, which will give the election a veneer of “this is what the people voted for.”

I don’t have high hopes. I’m still regularly scolded by purity leftists for participating in voting.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They will be canceled in some places. Those "lawless" places where the national guard is needed. Those votes won't be counted. Those reps will not be seated.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fact that midterms are even scheduled shows they dont have the grip on power that they really need right now. I dont have high hopes either but even a simple majority in a single house would reek havoc on their plans it it went left.

Also I dont get your last line there, scolded by purity leftists?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are leftists who, in spite of having deep, well-founded reservations against the DNC, still voted for Harris because the alternative is what we’re dealing with now.

And then there are leftists who did everything they could to join MAGA in attacking the DNC, then stayed home because they were too pure to vote for an imperfect candidate.
