I like to think of myself as environmentally conscious, but I never take used batteries to recycling centers, or the post office where they will accept them, I just toss them. I feel guilty every time though.
Sometimes I hoard them in a drawer for months and then when I clean I just toss them anyway.
tl;dr I talk a good environmental game but when it inconveniences me, I shit on mother nature.

Alkalines don't have mercury in them anymore, which was the only reason to recycle. Trash is perfectly acceptable.

If you have a Target, or an office supply place in your town/city, often they have a recycle box in front. Do what you can.

This is fine for alkalines. Rechargables are recyclable. Consider wrapping a 9v so it doesn't short out on a can or something.

I type this while staring at a dusty-bunny-covered old box with about 100 AA/9V/AAA batteries in them, in my office. I know that feel, bro.
