Kilmar Garcia, according to court filings that are public, claimed that he fled El Salvador because of gang threats on him - extortion racket I think. He was accused of being a gang member by an unidentified informant for police, but the cops didn't believe it and a judge gave him protected status back in 2019. He went on to marry a woman and father a child. He was rapidly whisked away to El Salvador and locked in CECOT. Despite the admin admitting it was an 'error', they won't bring him back.

It's a fair question.
So I make my wooden kitchen tools. All you need is some hardwood, you can get cherry, oak, or walnut scraps by the pound from your local woodworking/hobby/craft store, and a knife and sandpaper. I use a dremel for the bowls of spoons but there are lots of ways to do it.
It's hard to have the tools for every craft, but there are lots of maker groups around. You can often trade what you make for what someone else does. A few spoons for a shirt or some pottery.

Yes and no. I agree that the previous situation needed drastic action. However, the action they took was to just lock everyone up who was suspected of being a gang member (okay given the dire situation at the time), but then bukele decided to just let everyone who has been locked up rot - which is where it stops being okay.
