#15 sort of creeps me out
Curtron
Is 12 some kind of bacon orb?
aftu
As somebody writing their own simulation of turbulent flow, I am incredibly aroused.

Why do these load faster than that tall image about family guy one post over?

Can someone edit the end of #13 to have an upvote instead?
Nocoast12
#13 should be the next upvote gif
fosterthefoals
Colour me impressed.
ItsJustRocketScience
I can do all sorts of fluid simulations... What I can't do is think of good ideas for some. Anyone?
Arcian
#15 That's pretty fucked up.
JennaTools
It's sad how much I relate to #15.
HedgehogsAreSoAwesome

They look so much like real GIFs. Amazing.

I remember when seeing your reflection in water was good graphics

I was amazed by the realistic shadows in Luigi's Mansion.

2 questions: what program, and is it possible for someone with no experience to do anything like these?
Onedaysomeonewillloveyou
Unfortunately no, this is all very advanced work. I would recommend looking at Blender, it's free and has a wonderfully helpful community!
CO32minus
and #11 simulated...what exactly?
spudcosmic
A demonstration of fluid dynamics simulation? Like 60% of this post?
CO32minus
nvm didn't mean anything bad by this stuff was just confused
domirillo
These are projects a VFX student might do in school to learn how emitters, colliders, containers work. Not simulating reality, just physics.
domirillo
In that case, the parameter is: when something collides with the cubes, the container shape turns off, freeing the smoke inside.
CO32minus
Ah alright, just threw me off bc of the representational simulation theme of the rest of the post ^^;;

I hate gifs that make me hungry. Almost all of them!
imjustalurkerdontmindme
Oh yeah well I turned food into poop today, so yeah take that.

Probably #16, or possibly #13

Lost my upvote. No that it's gonna hurt him any, but still. Principle of the thing.

God dammit why does lava always make me hungry?
foxyfaice
Hot pocket craving?
HellYeahDude
Molten chocolate cake?
Pikka
I know, right?! Whenever I see a slow lava flow, I just wanna scoop it right up and eat it. Same with globs of yellow-hot glass.
MyImaginationOnAFreeRun
Makes you think of melted cheese and tomato sauce from a hot slice pizza?
UrpiArvasti
Dude, why!
MyImaginationOnAFreeRun
I guess that's just how my imagination works!
NeedToPeeButTheresASpiderInThere
Don't eat the lava plz
Gezo
Don't eat the yellow lava

Don't listen to this person; eat the lava. Live your dreams.

Fuck that Blender if you really want it.
CredibleInformant
Tell your SO she looks fat in those jeans while your at it!

Oh here comes Big Geology to try and run our lives.
areyoufuckingshittingmynuts
Did you know? You can eat lava.
areyoufuckingshittingmynuts
But only once.
TheRealWhaleLord
My computer blue screened just thinking about the rendering time.
ActuallyThatsWrong
studying molecular dynamics, these simulations take years when done on a molecular level
NationalistCanadianMooseWarrior
The app crashed just loading the gifs.
jeffoncom
It's gotta be at least 2 minutes

My computer just bluescreened......

Just imagine, in not too many years game engines will be able to render stuff like this in real-time.
oasisamid
Woah.. Your computer can think?
waynebradybitch
imagine playing GTA with destruction physics like in #8
conniecpu
Any GTA online session older than 1 hour would be a wasteland ;)
waynebradybitch
you're optimistic with 1 hour
MoistenedAnus
Engines already can, but games don't have them because NVIDIA are dicks and dot share PhysX source code with AMD
waynebradybitch
imagine playing GTA with destruction physics like in #8
Kraj71
But I want more realistic physics engines more than pretty renderings...
abitskeptical
just imagine, in not too many years imgurians will be able to render gifs like this, not just redditors
Beegeezee505
It's going to take a paradigm shift in the way computers are designed.
Snodig
And it will take another ten years to model this stuff that accurately. Like that shed. So much info in one model.
MumbleFumbleScreeamAndTumble
Game engines and GPU's capable of doing this, in real time, are 10 Years away, combined with VR, ... O_0 ... Fuck, we live in the Matrix!
TechGerbil
Already can to some degrees https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-_D6gKukms
RareQuotes
Vr is suppose to be indistinguishable from real life by 2025
ReavenIII007
OldMango
but i agree, that and VR.... i drool over the worlds VR will allow us to step into.
OldMango
10 years? i seriously think we are looking at no more than 3-4 years. we are moving forward stupidly fast in the tech world
[deleted]
[deleted]
SergeantTerryJeffords
It's not even close to powearful enough for an accurate real-time liquid simulation and render
jddg5wa
You may be underestimating the amount of time those renders take. At 30fps they can take hours if not days to render.
vaginalforce
The power something like this requires is ridiculous, especially for something like water. Thats much further away than 3-4 years
TwoToneeRebel
We can be capable but can common people afford it? No
OldMango
im not saying simulate this molicule by molicule, im talking about it Looking like that, i work in the 3D world and belive me, 1/2
OldMango
3 years is plenty of time to get real time rendering to look like that (just look at unreal engine 4, its insane how realistic that looks)
LongCommentChainAppreciator
Capable yes, affordable no
Zipp4Real
More realistically 10-15years.The smaller the particles and the more of them, the heavier the rendering.Today a water render can take 10 hrs+
NationalistCanadianMooseWarrior
Well that's a frame rate of like 2 per day so ya know we're getting there
EXiSTENCEthreshold
Yeah, atleast 128GB in a gpu to render this in realtime. Not gonna happen before quantum computing.
Zipp4Real
Depending on the realism and complexity of the scene, a render can take 3 days to complete. Thats an increase of 10x the gpu power to get(2)
Zipp4Real
The render time down to 1 hour. And if you look at the GPu market, we are stagnating. Same with CPU's.
OldMango
absolutly, but you dont need to render every atom to make it look realistic, its amazing how many shortcuts you can take in the CG world 1/2
Zipp4Real
No not every atom but you need to go below a certain resolution to even be able to throw in children and faking a lot of the physics.
OldMango
i work in CG myself and i full heartedly belive that we can make real time renders look that good in only 3-5 years.
