I know it's not good but it's a big deal for me. I overthink everything I do to the point where creating anything is almost painful. Typically I don't know where to start and if I do, I'm so critical the entire time. Tonight I turned off my brain and just created. I know this will die in usersub but that's ok because I'm feeling on top of the world.

Edit: Holy crud FP! Y'all are awesome!! I made this in a drawing for pleasure class, it was my first time using charcoals and it just felt right!
I guess I get to ask you to send me things now? I'm driving from Seattle to Boston in 2 weeks, send music or things I should stop and see!

That's beautiful! I love it! I get where you are coming from. I'm hypercritical of my own art too. But this is great!

@Op Been there. Now I'm free of the torment. You'll get there. Just focus on one thing and know rest of them are distraction.

How? How do you turn off your brain? I struggle with art as well for that reason

it's like as if someone cleaned my shower drain and slapped it on a canvas

It's beautiful and creepy and lovely

This is kinda terrifying yet beautiful i like it +1.

I've done this, then I burned it to burn my frustrations away

I hope you remembered to turn it back on again, and remember to disable the background apps for a smoother user interface.

I really like this. Good job!!

I like it!

Proud of you, OP. It can be a daunting feeling but you conquered it! Keep at it. It's great stress relief to just pour your brain on paper

I'm the same with my writing dude. Good job and keep it up!!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Keep at it! Overthinking is a hard obstacle to overcome, but this looks like a great way to push through it. Good job!

Good job on taking that first step! Been there and know how ya feel, even if it turns out like crap at least that better nothing :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's not good but good that you have found a way to decompress.

So rage. Yet deep.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So how'd you manage that brain turn off? I really need to learn that shit!

Substances? Substances.

Someone once said that art is the ability to evoke emotion. Yours definitely has that effect. But it feels very painful.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

So what you're saying is running up and punching a baby in front of someone is art. Got it. Evoking of emotion shouldn't be the standard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Seeing this picture gave me an unsettled feeling. You can just see the muddled confusion. And no, sorry, wrong application.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure someone punting a baby would give you an unsettled feeling too along with a few other emotions. All I see is charcoal squiggles

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You do better.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sure, I'll toss some squiggles up here in the next few days on a second account, can't wait to see you there!

I did this during the 3rd year of college. Said F it! And turned off all electronics except the stereo and painted whatever my hand wanted

I have amazed myself alot like recently. Having a cold will turn off my mind more than anything

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And this usually hit when you've pushed yourself further than your body can handle so....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What helped you get to that point?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm having trouble interpreting this question. Can you frame it a different way? I'd be happy to answer

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I thought you were OP, and wanted to know how you got to the point of less overthinking and saying F it, to that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was getting erratic, anxious, and headaches were coming on when i had to consider how to answer the simplest problems. I ate healthy

Exercised daily, and had time with my then infant daughter, but ...i just felt fried, burnt out, and broken. After that session,

No thinking, just brush to canvas. Nothing looked good, but it felt great to right brain for a day

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I really like the idea of this. I'm not an artistic person but it sounds really therapeutic

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was very therapeutic for me. In the course of day-to-day activities sometimes we forget to have a good left brain right brain balance

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

so sometimes the best thing you can do is just get out of your head and allow yourself to not think and allow your emotions to express

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Themselves freely and through that a lot of stuff that may have been a negative stressor on you just melt away

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is a good portrait of Azathoth

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

i think you mean the Cluster from SU ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, i think it's Yog-Sothoth

Baby steps, you've got to start somewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 1

I found that the most valuable lesson I learned while creating was to trust that a piece would get past the "ugly stage" I paint a lot of

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What medium(s) do you use?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was trained in many mediums I spent a lot of time working in Oil, then moved to Acrylic for how fast it dries, now I mostly work in Water

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and Pencil Crayon. It depends what the subject is though. It usually dictates what medium I use.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Portraits so I used to get frustrated half way through and quit. But often another hour or two and it would start looking the way I wanted.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Most artists are insecure and it's because we're sensitive. But if we weren't sensitive we wouldn't be artists. Keep creating!
