Maybe try emacs if you hate yourself so much. Or just go with vim for additional pain.

Vim is a whole language unto itself! I see the power of it, but I've never learned enough to really make use of its real capabilities.

How is emacs hard to get started with? You can set CUA mode to get the normie shortcuts, and ween yourself off the training wheels.
