So you leave them to suffocate..why don't you kill them when you pull them out of the water?

is it not a bit cruel to just leave them dying on the deck rather than killing them?

I'm no fisherman, so there may be a valid reason, but why the hell wouldn't you just kill them after pulling them out of the water?

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

Cos you're cruel and don't care about animal suffering.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

because if you are not filleting, freezing or otherwise preparing them for meat, killing them will simply cause them to spoil on the boat.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 13

You stuff them with ice and use the entrails as bait. Git gud.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"otherwise prepping them for meat", believe I covered that.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why else are you keeping them on the boat? If you're not eating them, release them.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You clearly haven't been fishing. They stay on the boat while you're fishing, you don't run to shore for every fish.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I fish a fair bit, and yeah, you should make that decision and bonk them within seconds of pulling them up.

Who abandons a keepnet out of the water when the idea is to put the fish back alive?

4 years ago | Likes 317 Dislikes 12

Normally that net is just to keep them alive till you're ready to leave.

4 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 4

My brothers and I do this with fish we are going to clean. They'll set on shore a minute or two while we pack up.

4 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 25

You should kill them before you set them out to suffocate

4 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 1

This, so much this. I don't get how people can let their fish just suffocate. It takes just a few seconds per fish to do it properly.

4 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

As a curious non-fisherman, what is the best way?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You hit them on the back of their head to stun them. Then you take your knife and thrust in their heart to kill.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those guys wouldn't be allowed to fish in Germany.
