What the fuck is this post? Brown people vs white people? All muslims, all christians? Whats the labeling here exactly? This is the shit that makes the front page of imgur?

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

I didn't even notice that the young guy was paler. I assumed he was the son of the couple on the left is an apostate from the religion of his parents. The dark haired chad is a notable change from the common one, thus I made the connection. Though if you read it with the race goggles on and assume the characters are not related, then the message can seem more nefarious.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't love that this is being targeted clearly at Muslims

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Plot twist: The people on the right are causing, funding, & supporting the genocide/oppression of the people on the left for decades, yet claim universality of their ever-shifting "values" and enforce them by physical & economic threats. We Muslims dont start conversations like this, & have inner peace & understand live and let live far better than a Western society of morally relativistic high-functioning psychopaths. But you wont let us live. But hey, someone wants those fake internet points.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That’s why the Islamic caliphate has been colonizing for centuries I guess…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Not a fan of the stereotypes on either side. Being religious doesn't make you a dick, being atheist doesn't make you a chad. Being a dick makes you one, and there's plenty on all sides. There's also decent human beings on all sides as well. This kind of stereotyping only hurts.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This mindset is equally true of the extremists of every religion, but please also remember their are kind and generous members of every religion, they just get drowned out by the screaming of people like this.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

idk, if the loudest and most vocal members are the ones people see and hear the most then you can sorta see why the religion gets tarred with them. Maybe sort out the extremists and get rid of them so they don't make it all about them and their hate?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

I'm no expert on the various sects and denominations of other religions, but christianity has dozens of different denominations with different views. I know of a couple denominations that have lost entire congregations at a church because they refused to back down on appointing a gay pastor, they literally did sort out the extremists and are building new congregations. But they can't silence those people that left, they're still gonna yell.

my ex was a muslim woman, she only used her religion as a weapon to get what she wanted.
she drank, ate what she wanted, used very sexy clothing, basicly never adhered to anything in her former religion. but when she wanted something she pulled the religion card

Jumped to the comments to see the predictable but utterly unexplainable flocking of people who happily criticize religion just not Islam. Is it Stockholm syndrome? It was illegal for women to drive in Saudia Arabia until 2018 and people try to act like Sharia law (Islam) are somehow exempt from the headline "Religion is Shit" nah dude, they are the prime example of why religion is shit.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 9

What? We criticize any cult equally.
Just one has a much bigger effect on our lives, so we focus on that one.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you think you aren’t being brainwashed by extremist Islam right now you are dead wrong

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Personally I'm just fine with dunking on Islam because it is a religion and a bad one.

I am less fine with dunking on Islam _alone_ because there's a lot of other religions, some of which have a more immediate impact on me and/or many of the people on here (although obviously not all) and they are at least in part or at core levels just as dunk-worthy.

Can women in the US drive? Sure.
Can they safely get an abortion? Thanks to christians not quite as sure and who knows what's next...

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Is this intended to be anti-Islamic? Sorry, but it kinda looks that way to me.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 13

Strange, I read it as anti-Christianity. Depends on your background and experiences, I guess

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yes, because Islam (all abrahamic religions) have made up gods, made up rules, and tell you you're going to hell if you don't follow their particular rule set. And usually their sects rules, which are different enough they'll kill each other over it (shiite and sunni, Protestants and Catholics during the reformation, etc)

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Saying "gods" plural just shows how little you know given how high and mighty you act. Second, no muslim worth his salt is going to tell you he's going to heaven, nor will he tell you someone else is going to hell.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Fuck off. I know all the abrahamic religions worship the same non existent God with different flavors of prophet on top. And fucking lmao you think there are no fundamentalist Muslims condemning others. Mine told me my dog wouldn't go to heaven because it, like all animals, doesn't have a soul. I was 6. I stopped going to church after that.

I just remember when this youth pastor told us that if we masturbate, we're going straight to hell. So I was like "why the fuck am I coming here every weekend then?" and never went back to any kinds of church youth evenings ever again. Started to figure out that Christianity isn't for me. Looked into a lot of religions, and eventually in my mid 20's looked into Satanism and was like "hey, this matches my world views, I guess I'm a Satanist" :p

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The thing is your grandparents ARE watching you masturbate. But are you the sicko for masturbating or are they for watching?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thankfully I've never been told that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I heard that too but they never specified the "being ashamed" part.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The only thing I was told about masturbation by my parents was "It is natural, most people do it, make sure you do it in private" and that they would make sure to always knock and wait for a response before entering my room going forward.

One conversation, never mentioned again.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I was never really raised Christian. Like, my grandma occasionally went to church, more so when I got older. My mom, I didn't realized she considered herself Christian till she lost her shit when she found out I'm athiest. I grew up super prudish because of religion. Weird shit.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The hilarious thing is that the idea of relatives going to an afterlife (or worse, becoming angels) to watch over you isn't part of Christian doctrine; this is just an ancestor-worship revival that we were led to believe has always been part of being Christian. The Bible is really clear: dead people stay dead until Judgement Day and the Resurrection. Modern Christians can't even handle their own belief system anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yep, in the JW cult they teach exactly this. When you’re dead you’re dead. If you’re worthy then you’ll be resurrected after Armageddon in the New Order. The only exception is if you are one of the 144,000 that were chosen to ascend to heaven to assist god and the angles with the preparations for the end times and the after party.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've read a JW Bible too and some of the quotes they use to justify some of their beliefs were a major stretch. Like, not wearing a cross seems a reasonable choice but most of the others made little sense to me. It always strikes me how religions will base an entire pattern of behavior, things that could be life or death, on their interpretation of a translation of a single word or phrase.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean like never accepting a blood transfusion because blood is sacred? Yeah, they took some heat for that one.

So many religious people act like the only thing keeping them from a rape and murder spree is the thought that god is watching, or the threat of hell.
If you require the promise of a reward to do good things, or the threat of punishment to not do bad things, you are not a good person.
Religion does not make people moral.
People are moral in spite of their religion, not because of it.

Religion is poison.
All of them.
Yes, even yours.

2 years ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 18

I agree with your statement, however I would still rather have religion existing to guide people in the direction of good. Imagine there are no laws in a country and it is up to the civilians to set their own morals and standards. Every person's ethics and moral codes are different, for those who holds it higher and impede judgement to those who drew the line lower, they aren't much different from the comic above. Religion as a whole isn't perfect but it helps lost sheep's, like a shepherd.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There is nothing good about religion that requires religion, but no shortage of evil that does. You are a good person in spite of religion, not because of it.

You can have all of the benefits of any religion through purely secular means. If you're looking for an ideology to follow that leads to good, look into secular humanism. There's no way to interpret any of the tenets of secular humanism to justify any evil action.

Religion is poison.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Sure, ideally all people would be good people for the reason of being good, without the promise of reward or threat of punishment. I don't know how likely humanity is to reach 100% pure motivations though, how do we all live with each other in the meantime? Assuming we're not just swapping out Hell for Jail and want to actually fix people.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Empathy can be taught, just like almost everything else.

You teach your children things all the time without intending to. Model better behavior for them. This isn't a problem that will magically be solved overnight, it's going to take several generations of work.

Stop teaching children what to think and start teaching them how to think. Healthy skepticism, good standards of evidence, and strong critical thinking skills will all help them for their entire lives.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure, ideally people would be good because their religion threatens them if they aren't. I don't know how likely religion is to reach 30%pure motivations though, how do we all coexist in the meantime? Assuming one group of zealots doesn't end the world and wants to fix it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would completely disagree that first part is ideal. So by satiring this are you saying you dont want people to be good for the sake of being good? What is ideal then?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

satirizing*

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your comment seems to suggest that religion is the only reason some people behave themselves. I argue that while that may be true, more people act horribly in the name of their religion. I don't want humanity to leave behind religion so they will start doing good for its own sake. I want it left behind so people will stop doing evil for religion's sake.

My god is the sun. It's uncaring and indifferent to my joy and my suffering. But unlike your god, I can see it's light even on cloudy days. I can feel it's warmth on my skin. It's the source of all energy on the planet and without it we would all perish.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Why bother calling it a god, though? We already have a perfectly adequate label for it: the sun. What is gained by calling it a god?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you insist on the existence of a god. There you go. Sun worship is one of the most common forms of ancient religion.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would you insist on the existence of a god, though? Ancient people worshipped the sun because they didn't know what it was (or what anything else was, really), and because humans tend to assign agency to things. I don't think that's a good reason to call the sun a god.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't actually consider a giant ball of hydrogen with a nuclear fusion reactor in the middle to be a god. It's simply my answer to those that insist on the existence of a god that we cannot perceive with any of our senses.

This is getting a lot of downvotes for a website that usually has no issues with both criticism and mockery of other religions.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

Because it's targeted. It's not against religion.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Imgur has hundreds of posts reaching the front page that targets Christianity, both with valid criticism and just plain mockery that all priests are pedophiles, yet when Islam is on the recieving end its no longer valid.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

This is because people are hypocrites

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

That's because it's a racist dogwhistle, it's just a "look at the bad brown people shouting at the good white people" there's no religious comment in the post.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

because this meme was originally about evangelical Christians, y'know, the people who are actually telling everyone they're going to hell but for some reason it's targeting Muslims specifically

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

Let me get this right. You think there are no Islamic sects telling people they are going to help? LOL

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

yes they are very helpful

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, the evangelical are christian extremists right? And they yell at you that you're going to hell for renouncing god, hold up placards saying bad stuff about lgbt+. But in some Muslim countries their extremists throw you off buildings headfirst for that stuff, so maybe they are due some slighty mocking memes

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

So.. the meme was okay when targeting Christians specifically, but not Muslims? I've seen the other versions too, and still have no issues with it.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

It's got some big colorist energy going, the Christian version had white people of the same skin-tone on both sides, making the commentary squarely about religion.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

People not realizing this is a islamophobic post is pretty funny, not that funny when you know what is happening in France with the RN though...

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 26

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 7

Why are the bad brown people hating on the good white people in this post ? None, it's just some dog whistle.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

There is no such thing as Islamophobia. It is perfectly reasonable for people to be concerned about democratic Western norms knuckling under to creeping shariah and stealth jihad.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 15

"no such thing as islamophobia" says hater of Muslims

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

That's bullshit. It is reasonable to be concerned with certain sects of Islam, but to tar all Muslims with that same brush is unacceptable. I've met leftist, pro-LGBT Muslims. I've met misogynistic atheists who share a bed (ideologically speaking) with Christo-fascists. Humans are very diverse; don't act as if every member of a large group like that must necessarily share ideals.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

A phobia is an *unreasoning* fear. There are plenty of sound reasons for free Westerners to fear ISIS, al-Qaeda, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, all the self-deployed lone wolf jihadists, etc.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

Lol why would you be afraid of Hamas, they only exist in Gaza. Additionally you're only bringing-up violent extremist groups to smear an entire faith, which is laughable because you're far, far more likely to be killed by a white Christian nationalist than some Muslim guy... it's like if you asked me why I'm afraid of Christians and I responded with The KKK and other christo-fascict organizations.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Hamas is an Iranian proxy, and they’re dragging the Middle East into an all out war not to destroy Israel but to destroy America because we are solid allies either the only democratic state in the entire region. Why do you think all these idiot students are on the side of terrorism? Because this brainwashing has been in play for decades. They are destroying America from the inside and it’s working.

What is happening in France?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Far right party who is racist and openly islamophobic just won the legislative election, their main policy they campaign on is to cancel the "right of the soil" which is a french law that says that people born in France from immigrant parents residing in France (which obviously don't include tourist) are automatically french when they turn 18. They specifically target people who "we can see they are not really french on their face."

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Well it is the christians who are raping little childrens though, but apparently that's somehow fine. In comparison the numbers of rapes by the catholic church is far more numerous that the numbers of attacks by a few extremist but somehow they are perfectly fine.

If you're gonna call one religion out, call them all out

Typical it's all encompassing, and generally people call out the one that affects them the most i.e. Christianity in the US.

That's how people get into the right wing pipeline... "Look religion is really bad, especially islam !" The fact that people don't even realize it is pretty sad. There was another comment who was lowkey suggesting great replacement shit.

Yeah insert any religion, BAM same difference. Don't need to be Islamiphobic about it

How is it Islamiphobic?

So you’re right, this isn’t Islamiphobic. I think it’s just what’s happening in Palestine right now, mass genocide, and the countless depictions of Muslims as bad people over the years in movies/tv shows/ memes has me feeling a certain disdain for this. That’s all. I get it tho, people should be allowed to make fun of things

All criticism of Islam is off-limits to some people, who try to shut everyone else up by calling them Islamophobic. Conversely, when they ridicule Christianity, they never stop congratulating themselves on their own bravery.

The hypocrisy is baffling. No such thing as christophbia, mormonphobia, etc. but you're right. Exact same people heavily criticize Christianity thinks it's taboo to criticize Islam.
