This is happening.
Story time: (Sorry for the happy rant story imgur) I went out to a local bar/restaurant alone which isn't like me on a Wednesday night. Not really a drinker but it was a rough day so why not. I happen to sit next to an older couple.
Background: I am a 21 year old female welder about a year into the profession. Lately, the tig welding job I has taught me all it can, I have been feeling like it is time to move on.
Story continues: So I talk to this couple for an hour, very nice, in their forties. I mention I weld and this lady happens to know a certified welding inspector for a major company in aerospace and other projects. It's my dream job to weld on planes, to learn how to manufacture large machinery and restore antique cars. This company does it all sorts of projects. I got his number and called. He said if I could move over 2000 miles in two weeks I could work for him at a much higher wage than what I make now. Scary, but amazing. I want to be inspector one day. I want to travel.
And this heart pounding amazing dream opportunity fell into my lap because I don't know. Destiny? Wanting to get a rum and coke? The universe? I don't know but I'm so damn happy and scared. I don't care what any points have to say, I'm just happy and I had to tell someone.
TL;DR early in career welder gets offered dream job because drinks.

If it's a higher wage but you're moving to California or a more expensive place you might not be getting a better deal. Kudos though!

Nothing wrong w/ honest work, but there's a difference between a good job/career, and dream job. This sounds like a good job.

1. Do your research. 2. Ask for them to fly you out for an interview- an interview is as much for the employee as it is the employer.

Also, if they are legit and want to employee you, they should offer to pay for all the expenses to get you there for the interview.

3. If the interview goes well, make sure you ask for relocation costs to be covered. Most bigger, legit companies will pay a fair amount.

Tig welding for short periods of time with SPF 50+ prevents most "sunburns" (arc burn). Thank you for your concern, I usually wear a jacket!

My thoughts exactly. Took my jacket off and welded one line, maybe 2-4 min of exposure. Took over a year for the burn to fade.

I'm very fair skinned. And I was mig welding with dual shield. The actual burn went away quickly, the "tan" line hung around quite awhile.

Don't know about a year, but once the burn goes away it can leave a very nasty mark for a long while.
