This violin was 3D printed on PLA and PLA+ filament using a MakerBot printer. It has a pre-amp and mic underneath and actually sounds pretty awesome with the right pedals and monitor. After the many hours spend putting it all together, the last step involved stringing this bad boy. I’ve played violin for 28 years now and in my work-tired haze I strung it backwards like an idiot.

Ha! The issue is that the neck is it’s weakest point and the tuning pegs are the heaviest part.

How long does it hold its tune?

Well right now the strings are stretching so about 30 seconds. Give it a few days and they should hold decently.

Do the wires from the tuning knobs tickle your chin?

So is just the first prototype. I’m working with a prosthetics guy to build a part that straps the whole thing onto my shoulder.

Nope; I’ve played for 28 years and my neck can’t handle it anymore. This will be free floating so I have full range of motion.

D’addario strings hold pretty well. I just broke a couple stringing it.

i put piezo elements unter the comb en hooked it up to a guitar effect pedal, it makes really good and weird sounds

I’m lucky that I work with a bunch of sound guys close by. We’re going to have a lot of fun with this.
