An extending level in a copper mine. This level is a false floor meaning that it is held up by wooden beams. You would not want to risk exploring into this section today. Devon, UK

Cooper mine featuring an amazingly well preserved water wheel. Mid-Wales, UK

This chamber is known as 'The Cathedral' Bath, UK

Incline shaft to take trucks to next level of mine. Wales, UK

Just one of the smaller levels in a complex of several mines interconnected. North Wales, UK

FP edit: Wow! Thanks guys. It's awesome that people are interested in my hobby. I would be happy to answer any of your questions so fire away. I'll try to post more underground pictures in 2018. Most importantly: I put a lot of time and effort in being safe underground. I would never recommend exploring with no experience or equipment. Join a caving club!

Wow! Golly jee! So cool! I cant wait to see your found footage horror day view!

As a North Walian I appreciate the beauty but I Just keep thinking of one of my favourite films, "The Descent" Nope!

That's amazing. I would freak out due to my claustrophobia. At least I can live vicariously through ppl like you! Cheers.

Wheel, not wheal.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Woops. Its only because many mines in the UK are entitled Wheal .....

Has a cave ever collapsed while you were in it?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Nope they're relatively stable. I've seen some small collapses in mines though as they're no longer maintained.

#8 reminds me of this ukranian girl I knew

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did not spend 2017 exploring caves and abandoned mines.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well... I spent it mostly in a dark room with a computer and a cat

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me this is nightmare fuel

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know that my fear is probably false. Do you ever find creatures in these tunnels ? Snakes, bugs etc ?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never! Only bats in the UK

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess I always knew this but afraid anyway

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All i can think of when i see these is The Desent

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The book was far far better than the stupid horror flick.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm descended from Welsh miners so found these particularly interesting.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you build a waterwheel in a whale? and why? someone call peta

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For some reason the first thing that comes to my mind is the 2005 movie called the Descent.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great pictures

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely fucking not.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Soon Master Elf, you will enjoy the fabled hospitality of the dwarves. Roaring fires, malt beer, ripe meat off the bone.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nice Spellunking.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

this seems ridiculously dangerous.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No thanks, i have seen the Descent.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I've been doing this for 5 years and finally watched The Descent. It's so ridiculous it didn't put me off.

I was told on a tour that copper miners in Wisconsin went on strike when they switched from having a single candle to acetylene lanterns 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and could then see they were working 50-100' above the floor on rickety wooden scaffold.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you find Gollum?

Any creepy/haunted/paranormal stories to share?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sadly not.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing. Is 'the cathedral' a part of the cheddar gorge complex? I lived in Bath for years, but definitely don't remember that :0

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's a mine just outside of Bath. The Cheddar Gorge complex are caves but amazing all the same!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In box by any chance?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Box Tunnels are fantastic. We used to drink down there when we were teens. We "found" a 5" deep pool of water that was utterly invisible.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5', not 5"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure Wales has caves, but did the caves have whales?

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Wales has ales, for all porpoises.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

well answered

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not to be a wet blanket, but... @op, those mines don't look very safe. What precautions to you take?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You're absolutely right. Firstly, never go underground with no experience or without being with people who have experience. (1/4)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Knowledge and research are key. You need to know where you are going & what you need. Employ a call out system. (2/4)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So rescue is called if you're over time. Equipment is king. Bring what you need and more. Safety always and never take unnecessary risks.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And if you're in a mine, basically don't touch anything!

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Boy, you wanna fucking die? No way you ain't gonna find a wendigo or some shit in one of these

8 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

Somone played "until dawn" i guess ????

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL what a wendigo is.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

UK doesn't have wendigos, they're indigenous to North America.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Please don’t say this so matter-of-factly.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You go exploring how much you want. I support it. But, the moment you take something from the dark that should stay there, I draw the line

8 years ago | Likes 226 Dislikes 6

It belongs in a museum!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. We're very conscious about respecting the environment we're in and trying to help protect it.

8 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 0

I'm glad you do. Was being halfway ironic about creatures of the dark taken out of horror films ;) And also how can a llama be slutty?

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

You haven't met the llamas i have ;)
