*computer good enough to run good games not included

When Origin made their big upgrade, it updated to a program uncompatible with my computer. Anyone else have this problem?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I don't have battlefield 1 because it is not on Steam :(

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Yeah. EA shouldn't assume I'd download Origin for their games... either they put it where I want it or get none of the money.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Multitasking" is not a feature of steam, but rather of a computer, isn't it?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They DO make money. Some of the money that you pay for the games is going to Valve

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

not only that but the games they have released themselves like Dota, TF2, Counterstrike, half life, etc...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still hold a grudge for all the times steam fucked me by ignoring my settings, downloading gigs at a time, and blowing my cap.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

GOG has all that and no DRM

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And allows you have games imported from steam for free

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well I guess not "all that" yet, but I really hope they'll become a real competitor to Steam.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was agreeing with you GOG will give you DRM free copies of games you own on steam (if it is in their catalogue)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I just wanted to elaborate on the other points. GOG doesn't have cloud saves either, which is p handy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Steam used to put ads in games. Their browser is also the worst browser ever.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you probably never used the Wii browser XD It was so fucking bad and always froze/crashed https://youtu.be/_oPWAItND84

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. bullshit. any ads you may have seen are from the original producers of the game you were playing. 2. this is true.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shortly after Counter-Strike went to steam, valve put ads in the maps and on the scoreboard. I think they eventually took them out though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You also still get ads when connecting to a half-life mod server.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, it is a version of chrome, and who the fuck uses steam to browse the web anyway?? It works fine enough for a quick ingame google.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not chrome, it's chromium, which is something completely different.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't matter which browser it is at the end at the day imho, i think the point never was to be used as standard browser

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But what about the brutal violation of my wallet during sales?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And DRM to make sure you will never really own your games.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And people STILL find plenty to bitch about

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

$0/year? Steam is like the most expensive piece of software I have ever installed!

9 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 14

You're paying for just the games, not Steam. Unlike fucking XBox Live or PSN.

9 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 17

I need that gif of the joke going way over your head but it's an asteroid and earth

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

Well Steam takes a 30% (normal for entry level) cut, so you are basically paying Steam. No need to lie to yourself.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 16

Not to mention the trading cards bit. Genius idea on their part.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Depends if you use it for free-to-play games only.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sony and Microsoft also take a cut from each game sold on their platforms.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

The consoles do the same thing tho and then on top of that ask for you to pay for their servers. Steam has it's own faults tho.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thats the same for iOS and Android store.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But... I'm not paying that 30%. That's just the cut it takes from sales. The games are still cheaper on Steam than elsewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Nope. Just have to buy a $1000+ rig to play the games on

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Depends on the game. Plus usually a rig is - with the same abilities - cheaper than a console.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the game. Plus usually a rig is - with the same abilities - cheaper than a console.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just a reminder that psn and Xbox live give you free games every month

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There are free games on steam although most probably are not that good and not every month

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

while over i don't like the subscription system's they do make it worth is because the games they give you are quite good

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dont dis xbl, as far as services go its pretty decent, regulalry gets good updates and you get free games monthly. PSN is shite though.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

If you have to pay for the service, you are NOT getting free games.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

you are paying for the use of microsofts servers and online features. you arent paying for games so by definition the games are free

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

If the only way to get the game is to pay money, then it isn't free.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only thing I'm accusing it of,and many other subscription services making use of the internet you're already paying for, is being a scam

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

you're not paying for the internet idiot, you're paying for the servers and infastructure. valve does the same but with underage gambling

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

uh okay. Anyway I pay for my internet, and I play games online without having to pay any extra subscriptions.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If your steam account costs you $0 a year you are not using steam correctly.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

*30% sales tax.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

*Insert sales data of DOTA2 + TF2 + CS:GO + HL here*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Steam sales are like a drug dealer dumping his inventory at half price. Its a blessing and a curse.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The voice chat is shit, use discord instrad

9 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 11

Really though, discord is one of the best programs I've ever used.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

INSTRAD, WE MEET AGAIN!

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Where's strad?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@instrad

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use Curse. It's free and you can set up private chat servers like mumble, ventrilo, or teamspeak.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Likewise with discord. Though both are good. None of my friends like curse for some reason though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My issue with Curse is that it's a bit laggier for me, and feels a bit overbearing with all its features. I just use it for WoW addons now.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never used Curse but Discord is also free and me and my friends really enjoy the quality of it. Better than Skype and Teamspeak imo.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Use Skype unless your shitty pcs can't handle it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 18

Discord > Skype

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I use a combo of discord and ts3, but prefer discord because of the layout and ease of use

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I use a combo of discord and ts3, but prefer discord because of the layout and ease of use

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well that's because Valve makes a cut off every sale going on. A masterstroke in terms of business.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Holds your games hostage, dictates prices, monitored your interests, friends, life!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Refuses to give Australia our own marketplace in our own currency, but will do so for New Zealand. Cool. Love it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Won't list prices in AUD *cries*

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We even have prices ZAR

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously?!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mate you have opened my eyes to a whole new level of WHY THE HELL DOESN'T STEAM SUPPORT AUD. Much appreciated ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

learn how to do exchange rates itll save your life someday and you can make money with it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ive been using it since beta. But, there are ads, its just new game releases. Still 100000000000000000000000000000 times better than origin.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

The pop up ads can be turned off, and you can default to your library ( I'm not sure library isn't default anyways )

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah and those aren't even that bad since they really only show up when you reopen steam.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you have to pay like $5 for something to get feature access.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I would much rather have that than the gold old 20 spam request a day we had before.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

$0 a year, but if Steam ever goes out of business and closes up shop, you don't own physical copies of any of your games.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Steam has said that, when they shut down, they will try to make it so you still have access to your games.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can still play them as long as you've got your games backed up

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So, just like with almost any game these days?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Alot of them are installed in a way that they will run by themselves as well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Back up your games, your still be able to play all you want, you just wouldn't be able to buy more through Steam specifically.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

That would depend on the DRM ... which is why I prefer GoG.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No it wouldn't, all files are stored locally, it would be like playing in offline mode..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Just because files are stored locally doesn't make it would run. Some games demand online mode for DRM reasons (& have their own DRM on top)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their customer service also deserves a special mention. And a swift kick to teeth. With a chainsaw.

9 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 3

This so much. Valve may do some great stuff here and there but their shitty and shady practices heavily outweigh the good they do.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 12

where is my half life 3?!

9 years ago | Likes 445 Dislikes 8

It's not coming.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I read that to the tune of Money for Nothing by Dire Straits. "I want my MTV" etc. etc.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@sarah pls!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Muh half lifes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They arnt in a rush to make it since they don't want to deal with death threats if people don't like it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With the hype around it, I guess they'll never live up to the expectations. Might become the next no man's sky

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where is my fiddy life tree?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be patient....steam cooking takes time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the price we have to pay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every time it's mentioned on the Internet, they delay it another 3 months.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's confirmed.

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 4

So is the Illuminati

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

v REALLY?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This has 3 upvotes. Don't fuck it up now.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

I got excited sorry

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A valve insider has confirmed it is in development, but by a skeleton crew of around 10 people, so if we ever see it, it won't be for awhile

9 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

I want to believe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

skeletons?!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Source: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=50lSIaSR3zc Take it with a pinch of salt, it's hard to back up their claims.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Some other dude brings a ladle of salt in another video countering the "The Know" video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kdvzwXQcWoY

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Any sources?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another insider said they are launching Source 2 with HL3 so there is a lot to prepare

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

DOTA 2 is already on the source 2 engine...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean, I'm totally fine with them taking their time on it. Just as long as they're actually working on it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being one of those 10 must be so much fucking pressure

9 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Why? It's not like they have any sort of deadline.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The longer it takes, the higher expectations people will be.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At this point, I don't think any more time is going to raise expectations more than they already are.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*Takes a good, hard glare at uPlay and Origins.*

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

I hate it that you still have to install uplay after buying Ubisoft titles on steam...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and xbox live and playstation plus. Maybe eventually the ninentendo network but they also arent the best in the first place (still free tho)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*uPlay eats some glue*

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Seriously, I'm passing up on a free copy of far cry 3 blood Dragon just cause it's on u play

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure "no ads" quite right.

9 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 19

I think they mean more "no unrelated ads" like how some sites will use browser history to get you to click

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

There aren't any ads for fucking... *scrolls up on this very fucking page* Mazda fucking 3s.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Xbox Live has ads on the dashboard. Ads for anything, from candies to cars.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think they mean more "no unrelated ads" like how some sites will use browser history to get you to click

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You only see ads when you go to the Store page. My Steam launches to the library, and I can just start playing

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Aren't the ads for... games? You know, the products they sell?

*Really, really shitty integrated voice chat.

9 years ago | Likes 540 Dislikes 31

Its really nice to annoy people though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I keep hearing this, but I've never once had an issue with Steam's voice chat

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

not really. its a lot better than it use to be, but no one uses it because it use to be shit.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I never had a problem with it

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Only ever use skype. seems to work for me.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Yea. We don't speak about that....or the customer service.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Get teamspeak you fucking Luddite

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

steam has voice chat?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

its not too shabby , better then most in game voices , but worse then team speak skype or discord , but its convinent

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. It works pretty well for me

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i dunno, it works well enough for a few friends of mine to all play terraria together

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It has gotten a lot better over the years even just recently I've noticed a difference

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That is good that they are improving it. I honestly haven't used it for so long.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit works perfectly for me. Best friend and I use it every day.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yep, as long as you restart steam once every 48-72 hours, no problems. If I've left it open for days it can get finicky.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

same here, and uses less bandwidth than skype for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The audio quality sucks compared to others, but apart from that it does /work/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah but it's offered. And there are a lot of other COMPLETETLY FREE options to choose from.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. but at least it's an option

9 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

True, I sometimes use it just to invite ppl in my game to my TS server lol.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Check out discord, it's a bit easier to host on, less bandwidth hogging, and has a nicer UI, and is also free

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

the UI is shit and overall it has less functionality over teamspeak

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Why the fuck don't you use discord or teamspeak like a regular human being?

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

He probably does use them but just pointed out that he *has* tried using Steam's VOIP as well.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because I don't invite pubs into my discord?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

LOL teamspeak

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

ts and Vent are still used quite a bit, my dude.

Can you read?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

because Steam Elitists don't care about what's good. Only fanboyism.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 28

Absolutely no one is a steam fanboy... It's just a good thing, no one uses the voice chat either.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I doubt the guy talking down one of steam's features can be considered a Steam fanboy/elitist.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure he was referencing OP

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I sometimes find it better than skype though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better than Rocket league's in game voice chat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are SO many voice chat programs that are free and quality that it is irrelevant really. Just Nit picking at this point.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
