On March 23, 2015, an anonymous sender sent me a potato in the mail. Apparently this is a thing that the postal service allows.

Original potato post: http://imgur.com/gallery/EB3Dr

I put the potato in a sealed container where it's been ever since, and later a co-worker turned it into a piece of art. I look forward to enjoying more years of this miracle of nature.

Since I have you here, this is just a reminder that we still want to be able to sort our favorites. Thanks for reading.

Send it back after 5 years with a note saying "The ritual is complete."

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow do science and reverse food decay like idk that would be really rad to me

Good luck on your epic journey.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years? I am wasting way too mich time on this site

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Before I even knew of imgur I left an apple under my friends bed and she found it and kept it... 4 years ago.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does anyone else find it suspicious that she received this potato just a few days after @iH8myPP created his account?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that it has an official museum quality description on its label

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of the Easter egg we never found for a year and a half until it broke behind the couch...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was there anything in it at that point?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A little tiny hard yolk and a lot of stink

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually the postal service will take virtually anything as long as it has; address, return address, and adequate postage.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I cleaned out my grandparents pantry there were cans of cranberries that were leaking black liquid and had expired in 1991....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second anniversary. To add the word "year" is redundant.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

now eat it

9 years ago | Likes 1162 Dislikes 9

McDonalds wouldn't have any problem turning that into a hash brown and serving it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You can't have your potatoe and eat it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd chip in a few bucks to make this happen

The toxins from a rotting potato can kill you, sometimes just by breathing them

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fry it first!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You take that back.

9 years ago | Likes 856 Dislikes 10

Sera pls. Do it for the points. We all will collectively stop pointing out the fact you look remarkably like Weird Al Yankovic

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Listen to @Nicktree, Sarah... He's the boss now.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

If the comment gets to 1000 points that pretty much means you have to eat it

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I just got it to 500.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Boil it, mash it, stick it in a stew.

Sarah is the one person who should not apologize for potato

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I sit right by this potatoe. An office conspiracy is that it gave me appendicitis last year. The jury is still out though.

9 years ago | Likes 465 Dislikes 6

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eyyyyyyyy. I've often been told by a Russian friend, "In Russia there is no bad vodka", lol

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've heard that in Russian, vodka is pronounced "water."

As a Canadian whose government is about to raise the price of booze for the millionth time and is now like 70% tax, teach me the way! Please

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Oh goodness, now it's my turn to apologize to a Canadian; I'm so so sorry, my friend, that sucks so bad. I can teach ya how to make mead!

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I would be forever grateful if you could my southern brother!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another mead-maker here, do share some recipes!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll help teach! I've made my fair share of mead.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hands down my favorite thing to make. We have a crap ton of apiaries around here so it's awesome how the flavor can change season to season

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No shit. A local beekeeper gave me 20lbs of "undesirable" goldenrod honey last month. I'm gonna make a weird mead with it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a Mailman I have delivered a potato. It was awkward. Also a coconut, pizza box, cheez-it box among many others.

9 years ago | Likes 2380 Dislikes 5

Coconut is my personal fav.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would love to receive a box of cheezits FYI

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You've been requested by @sarah now you have to do it

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I delivered my first human remains the other day had to get a signature for it, lady goes oh it's my uncle Jerry you're a lot lighter than

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The last time I saw you

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have been posted an apple once. It was fucking gross.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've mailed a cheezits box, full of weird stuff to my niece at college. She laughed, kinda

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've sent letters written on boards, a bowling ball, golf ball, an addressed brick, a letter written on a tire (white ink), many bottles 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2: A shoe, a small dog house, a clean (new) paint can, many stuffed animals, a pan, a gallon can of corn & more. None of these were wrapped.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, mailed a keyboard inside a pizza box...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have been mailed a coconut and always wondered what the mailman must have thought

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for your service

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But was it this potato the potato that you delivered?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wbw I was a clerk, I came across a Saran wrapped 12" dildo with stamps running up the shaft, and address on the back. Gd hilarious

9 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

. so I can remember this. Absolutely amazing

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that... is probably the funniest mail item i've ever heard of. That's great.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Reading "Sarah wrapped" lead to some fascinating confusion...

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

When I had to leave college for cancer treatment, some friends mailed me a giant bouncy ball. It made me smile :) still have it!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Years ago I mailed my mother, who was in Ohio, a coconut when I was in Key West.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I prefer "Years ago I mailed my mother, who was in Ohio."

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a surprise ending your comment had.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I literally read that as : you mailed your mother.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a former mail man, I've delivered a sealed envelope of shit. Also several postcards with pictures of the sender's(presumably) genitals.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The placing of the brackets after "sender's" makes me think you couldn't be sure they were genitals. Please don't let that be the case...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heh, it's more that I couldn't be sure if it's the sender's dick :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That still doesn't clear it up. Do you mean as opposed to the sender's finger, or as opposed to the sender's friend's dick?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My hometown had a mailman who just threw all the mail in the canal for like 3 months before someone reported it...

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yikes. Isn't that a felony?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup... same guy had been keeping mail at home but his house was so full of it he began tossing it in the canal. He wasnt all there obviously

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You beat me to the punch!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Ohio at least they have the decency to stash it in their attic, sheesh!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please do a work stories post, sounds amusing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone once sent me a package haphazardly wrapped with an inside out Reese's Puff box.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Welp, @Entartika you absolutely have to make it now.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agree would be fun to hear all of the goofy things mailed

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I used to deliver mail in Maine- bees, 2 day old chickens, sheep brains. Also at my current job we have a 12 year old twinkie in a box.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a Fedex courier and a former mailman, can confirm; have shipped some odd items including a half empty can of Pringles

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Sentimental value

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No backing out now @entartika. Sarah has requested a post. The pact is sealed

@OP if Sarah asked for it you gotta do it. It's the law.

9 years ago | Likes 852 Dislikes 3

I am on this bandwagon!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It'll be the law when we get favorites folders.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 29

How much you wanna bet one of these downvotes is from @sarah

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I'd bet all the favorites in my favorites folders. Oh wait.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Not until we get favorites folders! Never forget!!!! :((

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this would be more Original Commenter than Original Poster, but ya good effort

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Oh dang you're right. Whelp.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It was probably mainly for the points that come with trying to contact an OP.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

Yeah but then we would need #OC , and that just doesn't happen around here...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Damn I judt noticed Sarah posted this

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good job daddy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the UK it's legal to send live Bees.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Caution: Don't shake. Live bees." Yeah that package is gonna be angry crossing the border.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I keep bees in the USA, and I've done it. Half of the bees die, but if you can't go get a box then it's not a bad idea.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

with colony collapse and africanized bees in the headlines i'm surprised

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's spreading, but so far CCD mostly affects forced migratory tractor trailer bees. Africanized aren't a problem from reputable breeders.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I prefer to buy bees locally, I can visit the hive and check it for diseases and aggression, etc. I can buy my pick on the spot, no shipping
