Good boy wins animal equivalent of Victoria Cross, proceeds to try and eat it.

Mali was described as a 'guardian angel' by the SBS unit he was attached to. He sustained multiple injuries when three separate grenades went off whilst he was clearing a path of explosives through a building in Kabul. Despite this he continued to do his fucking job and after 8 hours in a fire fight his team succeeded. In the words of the Director General the PDSA who awards the medal "Despite sustaining quite horrendous injuries, he absolutely stayed by his handler’s side and forged forward with them to help them carry out their duty." For this he was awarded the PDSA Dickin medal, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

To mark the seriousness of the occasion, Mali did the most honourable, noble and dignified thing he could think of and proceeded to try and eat the medal.
