Xena is going insane because of the furies. Ares uses the Furies to punish her, and try and get her back. She was speaking to her arms right before or after that scene. There's a bounty on her head, and so bandits are out seeking the payout for her death. Seasons 3 episode 1. The Furies. Personally one of my favorite episodes.

So I "dated" a girl before my wife that was really into Xena. I put qoutes around "dated" because she asked me out and I agreed to get to know her, chat, go to a company event together. Decided to let her down because I'm a dude and I was fairly sure she was a lesbien in denial. Seriously "our thing" for the couple weeks was chilling in X-box chat and watching Xena.
