The Maremas and Pyreneeans are bred for just that task laying low watching the flock and fighting wolves. They're amazing to watch when they go at it. And no I'm not talking about throwing down with wolves just bailing up other dogs that shouldn' t be there. Natural instinct

When you see great pyrs in the mountains it's really confusing, because on the one hand they are basically big floofy labradors, but on the other, they are gigantic wolf slayers. Even the size is confusing, your brain says L, your eyes say XXXXL. No risk as long as they don't think you're a threat to the herd. What constitutes a threat? YOU DO NOT KNOW. We had to pass a bit too close to one while mountain biking and we sent the most heavily armoured rider first...
