#9 I just hope Fatima's isn't wearing Chekov's Shirt.

God...
I'M SO DARN INVESTED!!
And I still have no idea why some guys have this problem with girls...
I get the same level of annoyance wgen I lose to someone, regardless of gender, age, or anythin'.
MagicMaaaaaaaaan
Love you Shen!
Cranbananarama
Wonder what the odds will be the one who brought her in today was the one she "lost" to back then.
Ein0r
Yay a trophy, I'll cherish that.
Mostlydeadpool
That's why you need different leagues. the kiddy pool for the newbies. a mid league for the people that are semi-serious and know the game and the A-game league for the hardcores. Because when a hardcore stomps on a casual player, nobody enjoys it. casuals with casuals, hardcores with hardcores.
TheFastpaws
I get it if true but also that is brutal. A friend's betrayal. The hurt never goes away.
idiotsonfire
People that can't tolerate a woman playing games, much less being better than them, they are losers and they need to eat gravel.
Fyffer
Arcades are far more than just fighting games, or at least they used to be. I dunno how so much hinges on just the fighting scene.
GrenithTheSkald
So... as messed up as it is, for a small business/tournament, it does make sense even if it had nothing to do with gender.
It would be like if you had a professional player who is like ranked in the top #10 in the world, coming in and pub-stomping everyone all the time. While some people might commit to "I GOTTA BEAT THEM SOMEDAY!" a majority just get demoralized and aren't having any fun when they just assume every single match that they never stand any kind of chance.
SalmySwims
What amazing timing. I just happen to be listening to Cammy's theme from SSF2T while reading this and the past 3 strips.
thotterpop
Super Street fighter 2 turbo? I feel like I got most of it correct
SalmySwims
Bingo!
LeviathAileron
I don't get it. What game was she unbeatable at?

Monsters vs. Vigilantes 2 /gallery/NJlUbjl
LeviathAileron
Oh!
Thanks, that sheds some light. Being super good at a thing could turn people off of it if they feel hopeless I suppose.
Tomigami
We had a Mario Kart tournament at work a million years ago. A good friend brought in her Switch for it, and somehow I wound up beating her in an early round (not bragging, I'd never played anything past the original SNES version). I barely won the tournament (dropping a banana peel on the speed boost in the last lap is a solid strategy).
While she was congratulating me, my friend told me why I'd beaten her: 1/2
Tomigami
"I threw the match. I've got 300hrs in on this game, you can tell because I unlocked EVERYTHING - levels, characters, skins, everything - and I'm the only one in this building who's ever so much as played this game. But I don't want bragging rights, I want people to play and enjoy, and that was a lot of fun to watch."
And just to prove her point, she played me 1v1 after work and fucking annihilated me. Happy birthday to the ground. It wasn't even close. I think she even lapped me.
SharkLove
This is the REAL reason why sports are segregated by gender...
JohnSmithterms
Lol 😆

Olympic skeet shooting was open until a woman, Zhang Shan (å¼ å±±) of China, won gold in 1992. Women were barred from the competition until a women's event was introduced at the Sydney games eight years later. So yeah... Mustn't puncture those fragile egos.
NekoMiko06
Ah, yes, gotta regulate the sport to account for the biological advantage of *checks notes* "being able to point at something"?
NaughtButOne
During the first iteration of Robot Wars, Jamie and Adam of Mythbusters fame created a robot so destructive that after just 2(?) rounds, they were asked to withdraw and offered a "co-" first place trophy, and award money in return. They withdrew, and have always wore this as a badge of honour, because it's a feat that was never really duplicated.
catboiMcCoy
That's a very honorable way to treat someone that level of OP though. Val's sitch is if RW judges had tried to make Jamie and Adam take a dive and use a busted entry bot so there is the theater of another player taking them out. Utterly humiliating for a good/noble cause :(
M4UsedRollout
They basically had to. Blendo was dangerous because it had the capability to launch pieces of its opponent into the crowd, despite the safety countermeasures.
Blendo needed a more robust arena than they could provide at the time, so they couldn’t let it compete.
sentx
Wasn't their bot basically an inverted lawn mower with an inverted steel blender for a body? I vaguely remember hearing one of the victims had their bot launched off the ground and just barely hit the top of the barrier.

Iirc it was just a steel dome that spun super fast, dealt a ton of kinetic energy as damage and had basically no surface that was even possible to attack
Wolfshead009
Cooking wok actually. With hardened steel blades attached.
CityYeti
Honestly, reasonable, but I understand her anger, too
BrockEffingSamson
Back when I used to play in CCG tournaments, I would often bring my B or C deck, because I didn't want to discourage players from showing up. I don't have it in me to throw a game, but I could bring a deck that was fun to play but not great.
Zamerine
Losers all of them.
TyphoonMuscles
Takes one to know one.
AtmaDarkwolf
She should lose purposely to the worse preforming contender there, directly after absolutely destroying the 'best' opponent. Make it clear she folded. Don't let them THINK they won if u are actually good.
ImHereToExplainTheJoke
It's the Little Brother principle. You're playing a game with your little brother. You know you can crush him every time. But you know if you beat him every single time, he'll quit playing. He needs to know he's getting better and has a chance to win. Otherwise, it's like trying to win a footrace with a horse. You just won't bother.
PipWhipple
Feels like it would've been easier/less painful simply asking her to withdraw, but I guess then we wouldn't have a story?
akafluffy
pretend you have a life for one day, announce you've got somewhere to be.
OnlyWantToSayOneThing
I mean lets put it in the situation of a family member, would you let your little brother win once or would you VOW TO NEVER PLAY A SINGLE GAME WITH THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. I think losing 1 match is easier and less painful than to cut contact permanently. People don't actually want to stab their friends in the back just because a sexist tells them to, they want to find a secret "middle ground" where they still stab their friend in the back but just "slightly less."
c0i9z2
The point is to publicly show that she can be beat so the jerks who can't handle a woman being the best player might come back.
MerriMod
Yep, it's not about her simply not winning. She has to humiliate herself, and Fatima's family suffers, because some jackasses have fragile egos.
Because, as naturally follows, she'd have to not only swallow the inevitable barrage of degradation the guys hurl at her when she lost, but would have to continue losing because the moment she beat them they'd all bail out and leave the arcade in dire straits again. And Fatima won't do anything to stand up for her because that would reveal the truth.
RecurringNightmare
brilliant logic, so instead of losing to the girl who is the best player in town they now lose against the girl who is the second best player in town...i cant see how that improves their situation, but whatever...
Arbitrarynamehere
Well she's still the best so
c0i9z2
It improves their situation because someone their gender is on top. Never said that sexist jerks are rational.
