There is definitely something to be said for $50 dollar lawn tickets, but these are actually not *that* expensive. It's casinos, so they kind of subsidize shows and hope you blow money gambling. Estimated to be like 100-200 a ticket once the hype wears off, they're like 350ish now.

I am positive sound is delivered using line arrays for primary image and perhaps a grid of surround speakers for immersion. There is some tolerance as the images are so far away. So the required resolution is 1 arc-minute (0.02 degrees). The screen is far enough away that 18k resolution is overkill.

Soundstage is different use of similar technology. But even if you are capturing 8k, 16k resolution will not show up in the signal acquisition. Which is what we want!

You might want to zoom in, or crop and scale in post. I suspect the resolution is just a byproduct of the components used though - the pixels were already a certain size and density when manufactured and they needed that many panels to cover the area... accidental 16k. At any rate, it's not THAT hard to drive that many pixels when we're already talking about building a stadium to put them on.

Agreed. But still wondering what they mean by “16k” here. That is only 2x2 4K panels. So are there multiple 16k projections or is this the entire resolution across the screen? If so then the pixelization on these images will be quite granular if seen up close. And in this day and age it is not difficult to push 16k down a visual pipeline.

Takes a lot less than mining one bitcoin. The answer is in server farms but the main bottleneck is video signal output, as this is definitely an edge blended multi-projection system. And there is off the shelf software that is available to do this type of video mapping. (I use projection loosely here, meaning any display of graphic information). The weird thing is to tolerate failure, you have to create more point of failure. But, this also means the whole thing doesn't stop working when there's one problem. One bulb out of one bulb is worse than one bulb out over 200 bulbs. Well, old style Christmas lights would be a bid example for this. But, those only were daisy-chained and only had a single source of power.

I honestly don't think you could see a single Pixel failure on this screen not with open binoculars. I own an 6K display and resolution on it is so good that I have to scale something up to 300% and use a magnifying Loop to see the pixels

The concept of "4D" (the common marketing term) shows isn't particularly novel. Not usually done on this scale, mind, but I remember sitting through many different ones as a kid. Muppets, Shrek, I think there was a "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" one for a while... And many others. Pretty sure there's currently a [Lilo and] Stitch show still running at Magic Kingdom in Disney World, too.

I think I remember riding a janky one at the park inside the Mall of America (formerly Camp Snoopy, then The Park at the Mall, then Nickelodeon Universe) and it was literally like a jet puff. Like the same shit they do at the eye doctor to test your reflexes, just PUFF right in your seat arm with a smell. My sister just went to the Mall, we were talking about how unmistakable the log flume scent is. Remember that better than shitty puff "seats can tilt" ride. Don't mess with classics
