Russian Roulette only took of in popularity because of the convenience of using a gun and a bullet, but really Ukrainian Roulette using a Mortar and shovel, at the very least, seems much more entertaining.
I have a good friend who got a chunk of his leg blown off because of a cracked mortar tube when he was in the army. Ended his service and it took him a long time to walk again. So this doesn't seem like a great idea.

For a soldier in a warzone, that is something they have to worry about least of all. 95% of the engineering of munitions is in keeping them safe until you absolutely certainly want them to go boom.
I mean, even the chances of a fully grown African elephant spontaneously materializing in your front yard out of stray particles in the air are ever so slightly above zero.
But like everything even if you have multiple failsafes in a device there is still a chance of all of them failing. Very very unlikely though. Keep the barrel clean and make sure to follow safety procedures and you should be very safe.

The manual for 60mm mortar tubes actually say to kick the tube until the stuck round dislodges. Shovel does the same thing but from farther.
