It's Tea... it cannot be unhealthy!
I'm American & drink tea all damn day. I make a straight black tea at night & refrigerate it all night, drink it cold in the morning. Then-
-various teas throughout the day & chamomile at night.
AMIGARA
I'm british... I don't care if it's hot, iced, sweet or bitter! Just gimme some damn tea!

As a Russian, I'm outraged a british person (one from tea demigod race) even suggests using teabags. Even here it's considered distasteful.
To consider teabags as "distateful' actually you must be in fact REALLY gigantically retarded. That's beyond ridiculous.
You guys drink loose-leaf from samovar, with sugar and lemon, right?
there is an old joke about an indian guy who orders tea in the US. he gets a teabag, rips it open, and pours it in water. his American 1)
friend says you dip bags in the water to make tea. He nods, and dumps the sugar packet whole in the tea.
I heard that's dangerous. To be more specific, I heard it's a potentially carcinogenic and bullshit like that. Is this true or pure BS?
Of course I don't mean the sugar, I mean the teabag content. I think it was supposed to be inside and filtered. I don't know.

As a Canadian, I was confused when I went to the US & ordered iced tea b/c in Canada iced tea is sweetened. All iced tea here is 'sweet tea'
Sweetened tea is not the same as sweet tea. Sweet tea is brewed with the sugar in it. Sweetened tea just has sugar added. Different.
All our iced tea comes sweetened. It tastes like sweet tea and was brewed with sugar. None of our iced tea comes unsweetened.
kungfuironman
You should've came down to the south (except for alabama and parts of mississippi) we have real iced tea
TywinStark
False.
The only times in Canada you'll get unsweetend iced tea is if you or the establishment personally brews it without sugar.
As for only getting unsweetened iced tea when I visit the US, the Northern states where I've ordered it have always served it unsweetened.
CShock
As someone from Georgia, when i went to Chicago and orders sweet tea I got laughed at... unsweet tea with sugar is not the same *vomit*
ChalupaBatman834
I'm from Tennessee and I was in Phoenix for a wedding and I asked for a sweet tea and the waiter had never heard of a "sweet tea" before..
the waitress offered me tea and some sugar and it was probably the nastiest drink I've ever had
My waiter offered me raspberry tea instead and I was just like bleh just give me a water haha.
I am really bad about not wanting to ask for something different so normally i just nod and take whatever they give me, or bad food i keep
turokdinosaurhunter
As an american currently in Canada, I have almost ordered iced tea a few times, thank god I didn't! Unsweetened rules.
Yeah, most places in Canada only serve Brisk/Nestea. Some restaurants make their own, but it's usually still sweetened.
Weird! I guess that's a reasonable cultural difference, what with all your double-doubles up here and what not.
Unless you actually brew your own iced tea, then you sweeten or don't sweeten as you wish. I'm referring to store bought/restaurant iced tea
kevinthekid10
Went to Vegas and asked for iced tea. Was not what I was expecting
canwesoakthisin
Ugh I hate sweetened tea. Id be pissed if I ordered an iced tea and it came sweet
Kitastrophe
To be fair, in the US you usually have to specify sweetened or unsweetened iced tea and sweet tea is a whole other tooth-rotting thing
See, you guys know that, but Canadians don't know that because here it's always sweetened and comes from a drink machine or a can.
AdorableEvil
It's for the diabetics.
Cobaltios
This doesn't surprise me...
wyliebunny
Generally at restaurants, just regular iced tea isn't sweetened. But raspberry generally is and sweet tea is what it sounds like.
jdavis1186
My experience in Oklahoma is that they either bring you sweet tea if you don't specify or they ask "sweetened or unsweetened?"
I'm sure it's different depending on where you go. Beause what I mentioned is normally how it has been for me on the west coast.
*because
Swift2568
There is a difference between southern "sweet tea" and sweetened iced tea.
btw, Michigan.
The good thing about unsweetened iced tea, is you only need to add sugar. Then you can have lightly sweetened tea to your taste.
DoctorConners
Iced tea is iced tea everywhere but america, they always need to do it differently
notsocks
What... what's the difference?
Mississippi
If you live in the southern part of the US, it's the same. Especially Georgia, God bless their diabetic souls.
CreamSodaPuff
Depends on where in the US. Up north, you get ICED tea. Down south, you get SWEET tea, usually with enough sugar to make your teeth itch.
Come on down to Tennessee. We will have a nice cold glass of diabetes waiting for you around every corner.
As an English person when I go to America am I going to be confused/disappointed/enraged by tea? I trust you Canadian to be honest with me
I don't know much about their hot tea. But I can tell you that their unsweetened iced tea tasted more bitter than normal tea.
As an American who has visited London and had british tea and American tea, back home, its really regional and vendor specific. I've had 1)
2) bad tea in both England and the US and excellent tea in both. that being said, southern tea in the us tends to be better.
GALL0WSHUM0R
In Pennsylvania, they usually ask if you want sweetened or unsweetened. If they don't ask, it comes sweet.
Ringshadow
Is that how Canadians stay warm?
brooojake
You went to the wrong part of America
nootaloo
So I should move to Canada then. Got any rooms? :P
mrthan
In the south, that's pretty much the way it goes too. You have to specifically ask for unsweet.
ReasonForVote
I did that in Florida and got the "GTFO" look from the lady. I got water instead...
lookatthepicnothere
As Floridian you must realize that all parts of Florida south of Orlando is a Northern state. North Florida is just Southern Georgia. (1/2)
Except the middle part. The middle part is a bunch of cowboys and orange trees.
...and wild hogs. I saw several when I drove by the orange groves between Ft Myers and West Palm Beach a few years back.
guzzball
I'm from the US and would also be confused if I ordered iced tea and it wasn't sweetened.
HangslikeCabbage
I live in San Diego and I always have to put sugar in my iced tea. It's not sweetened unless it's that nestea stuff.
This happened in Michigan and Ohio. Apparently it's normal for iced tea to be sweetened in the southern states. Y'all need to coordinate.
SaintMaceToTheFace
In the north you have to actually say sweet tea
MagicWardrobeMalfunction
+1 for 'Ya'll need to coordinate' :)
yellowdove
I usually have to clarify unsweetened iced tea, weird
From my experience, if you don't specify sweet, they'll usually ask you which one you want. Seems odd to assume unsweetened.
I went to the US almost every year from age 12 onward. I was never asked to specify. I was just given unsweetened iced tea.
Weeeeeeird.
hellafordays
In California it comes unsweetened usually.
QueenMyDishesPlease
Northern US iced tea is much better than southern in my opinion
Thank you.
Every Canadian makes the *blurg* face the first time they order and try iced tea in the US.
Ryvan
I make my own iced tea because I don't like sweet iced tea. I like it bitter....
Although I don't care for it, it's more an issue of a discrepancy between expectation and reality than taste necessarily.
Oh totally. When you expect one flavour and get another it's a really confusing experience!
MyParentsWentToTorontoAndAllIGotWasThisCrappyUsername
As a Canadian, I can strongly confirm this
gloomyjim
As a Canadian, this is surprisingly one of my favourite parts of visiting the states. Unsweetened tea is so much more refreshing.
That's what I did! I drink hot tea unsweetened, but I expected iced tea to be sweetened and I was very confused.
Tanishh
My mom is Canadian and I loathe unsweetened iced tea. Tastes like dirt. The south did iced tea right, IMO.
Funnily enough I like my tea black, but for some reason when you cool it it just turns into a mouth-drying monstrosity.
RobotCosmonaut
Most places I've been in the US you get a choice of sweet or not sweet. I hate sweetened tea, I go for plain tea.
Yeah, see, I didn't know that as a 12 year old Canadian girl but I know that now.
infomuffin
I get so sad when I order tea and it comes sweetened. It is my decision!
In CA, my general experience is that tea comes unsweetened, which I like. If I want sweet, and if they have it, I get raspberry iced tea.
itwasadarkandstormynight
hate sweetened tea, and I'm the only one in my house that does. But, I'm the only Yankee in my house, too.

It's also nasty compared to Nestea, which has become a highlight of any foreign holiday for me. Next time, it's coming back in hold luggage.
doublekross
Back where? Where do you live that they don't have Nestea?
Britainland. I've seen it for sale in, like, one shop here. In a town I was only passing through.
I *have* been given a buncha Tassimo type pods for it, but they have to be made up hot and then frozen after, & I haven't the freezer space.
ShiKageMaru
I remember this on tumblr. Also Lipton tea sucks. Tea bags suck. Loose leaf tea is the only way to go.
skellious
however it's so expensive compared to in france / germany :( also less flavours and smaller bottles. but Lidl stocks a good half-way house.
popular amongst ingrates!
iNeverRejectTheNullHypothesis
As a non-brit, I thought bagged tea was considered as sacrelige across the pond. Am I just naive?
Bear in mind the difference between "cold tea" (served hot, often with milk, not too sweet) & "iced tea" (served cold, very sweet, no milk).
kuhrissteenerli
As a Chinese, Lipton is subpar compared to the shit you can get in the mainland.

Sasstiel
As a Canadian, I was confused when I went to the US & ordered iced tea b/c in Canada iced tea is sweetened. All iced tea here is 'sweet tea'
SihayaOfTheAllPowerfulMeh
Sweetened tea is not the same as sweet tea. Sweet tea is brewed with the sugar in it. Sweetened tea just has sugar added. Different.
Sasstiel
All our iced tea comes sweetened. It tastes like sweet tea and was brewed with sugar. None of our iced tea comes unsweetened.
kungfuironman
You should've came down to the south (except for alabama and parts of mississippi) we have real iced tea
TywinStark
False.
Sasstiel
The only times in Canada you'll get unsweetend iced tea is if you or the establishment personally brews it without sugar.
Sasstiel
As for only getting unsweetened iced tea when I visit the US, the Northern states where I've ordered it have always served it unsweetened.
CShock
As someone from Georgia, when i went to Chicago and orders sweet tea I got laughed at... unsweet tea with sugar is not the same *vomit*
ChalupaBatman834
I'm from Tennessee and I was in Phoenix for a wedding and I asked for a sweet tea and the waiter had never heard of a "sweet tea" before..
CShock
the waitress offered me tea and some sugar and it was probably the nastiest drink I've ever had
ChalupaBatman834
My waiter offered me raspberry tea instead and I was just like bleh just give me a water haha.
CShock
I am really bad about not wanting to ask for something different so normally i just nod and take whatever they give me, or bad food i keep
turokdinosaurhunter
As an american currently in Canada, I have almost ordered iced tea a few times, thank god I didn't! Unsweetened rules.
Sasstiel
Yeah, most places in Canada only serve Brisk/Nestea. Some restaurants make their own, but it's usually still sweetened.
turokdinosaurhunter
Weird! I guess that's a reasonable cultural difference, what with all your double-doubles up here and what not.
Sasstiel
Unless you actually brew your own iced tea, then you sweeten or don't sweeten as you wish. I'm referring to store bought/restaurant iced tea
kevinthekid10
Went to Vegas and asked for iced tea. Was not what I was expecting
canwesoakthisin
Ugh I hate sweetened tea. Id be pissed if I ordered an iced tea and it came sweet
Kitastrophe
To be fair, in the US you usually have to specify sweetened or unsweetened iced tea and sweet tea is a whole other tooth-rotting thing
Sasstiel
See, you guys know that, but Canadians don't know that because here it's always sweetened and comes from a drink machine or a can.
AdorableEvil
It's for the diabetics.
Cobaltios
This doesn't surprise me...
wyliebunny
Generally at restaurants, just regular iced tea isn't sweetened. But raspberry generally is and sweet tea is what it sounds like.
jdavis1186
My experience in Oklahoma is that they either bring you sweet tea if you don't specify or they ask "sweetened or unsweetened?"
wyliebunny
I'm sure it's different depending on where you go. Beause what I mentioned is normally how it has been for me on the west coast.
wyliebunny
*because
Swift2568
There is a difference between southern "sweet tea" and sweetened iced tea.
Swift2568
btw, Michigan.
MantisTobogganPilotMD
The good thing about unsweetened iced tea, is you only need to add sugar. Then you can have lightly sweetened tea to your taste.
DoctorConners
Iced tea is iced tea everywhere but america, they always need to do it differently
notsocks
What... what's the difference?
Mississippi
If you live in the southern part of the US, it's the same. Especially Georgia, God bless their diabetic souls.
CreamSodaPuff
Depends on where in the US. Up north, you get ICED tea. Down south, you get SWEET tea, usually with enough sugar to make your teeth itch.
ChalupaBatman834
Come on down to Tennessee. We will have a nice cold glass of diabetes waiting for you around every corner.
AllInGoodTime
As an English person when I go to America am I going to be confused/disappointed/enraged by tea? I trust you Canadian to be honest with me
Sasstiel
I don't know much about their hot tea. But I can tell you that their unsweetened iced tea tasted more bitter than normal tea.
DoctorWatchamacallit
As an American who has visited London and had british tea and American tea, back home, its really regional and vendor specific. I've had 1)
DoctorWatchamacallit
lookatthepicnothere
Except the middle part. The middle part is a bunch of cowboys and orange trees.
ReasonForVote
...and wild hogs.
Sasstiel
This happened in Michigan and Ohio. Apparently it's normal for iced tea to be sweetened in the southern states. Y'all need to coordinate.
SaintMaceToTheFace
In the north you have to actually say sweet tea
MagicWardrobeMalfunction
+1 for 'Ya'll need to coordinate' :)
yellowdove
I usually have to clarify unsweetened iced tea, weird
guzzball
From my experience, if you don't specify sweet, they'll usually ask you which one you want. Seems odd to assume unsweetened.
Sasstiel
I went to the US almost every year from age 12 onward. I was never asked to specify. I was just given unsweetened iced tea.
guzzball
Weeeeeeird.
hellafordays
In California it comes unsweetened usually.
QueenMyDishesPlease
Northern US iced tea is much better than southern in my opinion
MantisTobogganPilotMD
Thank you.
samjc23
Every Canadian makes the *blurg* face the first time they order and try iced tea in the US.
Ryvan
I make my own iced tea because I don't like sweet iced tea. I like it bitter....
samjc23
Although I don't care for it, it's more an issue of a discrepancy between expectation and reality than taste necessarily.
Ryvan
Sasstiel
That's what I did! I drink hot tea unsweetened, but I expected iced tea to be sweetened and I was very confused.
Tanishh
My mom is Canadian and I loathe unsweetened iced tea. Tastes like dirt. The south did iced tea right, IMO.
samjc23
Funnily enough I like my tea black, but for some reason when you cool it it just turns into a mouth-drying monstrosity.
RobotCosmonaut
Most places I've been in the US you get a choice of sweet or not sweet. I hate sweetened tea, I go for plain tea.
Sasstiel
Yeah, see, I didn't know that as a 12 year old Canadian girl but I know that now.
infomuffin
I get so sad when I order tea and it comes sweetened. It is my decision!
wyliebunny
In CA, my general experience is that tea comes unsweetened, which I like. If I want sweet, and if they have it, I get raspberry iced tea.
itwasadarkandstormynight
hate sweetened tea, and I'm the only one in my house that does. But, I'm the only Yankee in my house, too.
mordrul
Down here it largely matters if you're north or south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

It's also nasty compared to Nestea, which has become a highlight of any foreign holiday for me. Next time, it's coming back in hold luggage.
doublekross
Back where? Where do you live that they don't have Nestea?
MarkPenrice
Britainland. I've seen it for sale in, like, one shop here. In a town I was only passing through.
MarkPenrice
I *have* been given a buncha Tassimo type pods for it, but they have to be made up hot and then frozen after, & I haven't the freezer space.
ShiKageMaru
I remember this on tumblr. Also Lipton tea sucks. Tea bags suck. Loose leaf tea is the only way to go.
skellious
however it's so expensive compared to in france / germany :( also less flavours and smaller bottles. but Lidl stocks a good half-way house.
Sefalim
popular amongst ingrates!
iNeverRejectTheNullHypothesis
As a non-brit, I thought bagged tea was considered as sacrelige across the pond. Am I just naive?
MarkPenrice
Bear in mind the difference between "cold tea" (served hot, often with milk, not too sweet) & "iced tea" (served cold, very sweet, no milk).
kuhrissteenerli
As a Chinese, Lipton is subpar compared to the shit you can get in the mainland.
jarry123
