When you're older, you realize your birthday isn't that important

tl;dr OP's birthday and he got no cake, no presents, and realized getting older means a birthday is just another year survived

So today is my birthday, and what do I have to show for it? 3 pieces of pizza. I woke up feeling good about the day. I turned 20 and I'm no longer a teenager. However, over the past few years I've seen the decline in eventfulness around my birthday, but today drove it home. I got some 20 odd generic "happy birthday!" Messages on my Facebook which was nice. But, I had to walk through the rain 2 miles to have my dresser and mattress dropped off at my apartment by my parents (then two miles back), all of my friends were busy with homework or other obligations, and not one of my family or friends had a present for me. By the time I got to see anyone or do anything, it was 8:30 pm, my girlfriend was tired, my other friend was irritated, and the only other person that was going to show up, didn't even bother to call saying he wasn't coming. What makes it worse, is that I spent hundreds on my friends for their birthdays not more than a month ago, and organized an impromptu party last week for the friend that didn't bother to show up tonight. I didn't do it expecting anything in return, but I'll admit doing absolutely nothing for me hurts a bit. This isn't a sob story or anything, but more of a realization: when you get older, you're birthday becomes insignificant even to your family. Now I get to celebrate the last few hours by myself folding laundry.

I can't have pets in college, so have a physics joke in place of my cat tax.

Sunny days wouldn't be so special if it wasn't for rain. I've had a year or two like that. don't sweat it. I suspect people care. find them

Sometimes we need reminded of what feeling like shit is like. It's the only way to know a good feeling when they happen
