I played a fighter who used to be a bodyguard for nobles. So whenever the rest of the party was discussing the plan or talking to someone important, he would excuse himself and go take watch outside the room so if interrogated or contacted mentally by an enemy he would not have any of the pertinent information to give.

This also made him very "fly by the seat of his pants", in most situations. He was a lovable oaf. Based him off Kenedy the Cop from the little rascals shorts.

Not *every* town or universe is going to have billboards for jobs

#28 In my group's case it was naming a boat. Not even our own boat, just an NPC's boat we would probably never see again. Took around two hours to get through in voice chat and almost resulted in the gaming group splitting up after a couple years of playing together. Two sessions later we silenced and stunlocked a lich, getting through the entire boss fight with maybe thirty HP lost between four level 15 PF2 characters.

#5 gives me an idea for a new character concept. A Wizard that doesn't believe in magic. He casts "spells" and all, and sometimes calls it magic, but he only does that to bypass having to go on lengthy explanations of scientific phenomena. He sees himself actually as a self taught scientist, using science to mimic magic as people know it. Further twist is that his science is bullshit and he's completely wrong about it all, he is in fact doing magic, but hes seeing it as "natural phenomena"-

-so the end result is that hes using the material components and all, buy he believes something like, say, a Fireball, is the result of thermal endothermic exothermic rapid expulsion, the result of bat guano being rubbed on an acorn and causing its innate thermal kinetic energy to go into overdrive, will rapidly expand if the acorn is then thrown. It's just chemistry, really. And Tasha's Hideous Laughter is just a matter of synching up the sound waves in your voice to trigger the laughicampus.

that's an Artificer in 5e. You cast "spells" with your Alchemist's Kit because you're just doing chemistry on the fly.

That's his buddy and fellow party member. The Artificer, exasperated, actual scientist, that just tells people hes doing magic, because that explanation is easier than trying to explain how he's able to create electricity from a coil of wire and a magnet. And afterall, technically he Is using bits of magic in these devices, explaining how he gets a bolt of lightning from an ice elemental is just more work than he wants to put in. So he just claims it's all magic instead.

One of my players wanted to play an awakened lemure, so I made up a race for him to play. Any dm worth their salt could probably do the same for a mimic.

Not by the base rules, so many DMs will not allow it. Some DMs are more amenable to house-ruling things, and older editions of D&D had more material to support playing monsters (including penalties in exchange for your monster abilities).

I don't want a spell to become one. I wanted to be the base species! I read a story called "Everybody loves large chests" (absolutely nsfw!) and though it could be a fun D&D character longterm with the shapeshifting and Ambush abilities

I would agree with one of the posters' advice against trying this when you are inexperienced with the rules. Incorporating intelligent mimics into a group of characters will likely cut off a lot of normal options, and it may not be a fun character to actually play.

Hardly an expert but my understanding is you can do pretty much anything you want as long as the DM allows for it (and in the case of playing a normally non-playable creature, lets you create a race/class for it)

Ive always wanted to be a high level wizard who was cursed and turned into a cat, who is limited to illusory, and stealth magic. But on rare and unpredictable occasion the character transforms back into a full sized old ass wizard and has access to incredible magic and can speak for just a few minutes before going back to being a cat.

My “perpetual” character is a rehash of the bear king green text. A bear who was part of a circus act got blessed by a god to look like a Tiefling Sorcerer. The facade will come crumbling down when someone beats my disguise or persuasion rolls or my trainer shows up. They also have to roll against food checks, and if there’s food near by will lose any sense of being “normal” and start feasting without a care. There is a season table, but I never got to that point. I love this character.

There's a rule for having monsters as player characters. It's normally limited to lower level monsters, but I'd be fine with adjusting it.

No, actually Locate Object, as a Divination spell, is unable to pierce lead; it specifically says so in the spell description. I'm unfamiliar with the details of BioShock - what do they want with lead lining?

no, it actually does stop Locate Object. It cannot penetrate one inch of lead. That is, however, a large and heavy pouch
