If his wings had remained intact as they are depicted in the painting, he never would've fell to the ground? Wax holding them together melts

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shouldn't his wings have less feathers?

Does anyone know the legalities of creating sculptures of paintings like this? Like if I made a sculpture of those 4 people in those poses

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

would it be considered plagiarism or a similar "don't steal my idea" crime?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why tf are his wings still intact?

Artistic licence...

They are strength. They are nobility. They are the Blood Angels.

Nero, or was it Caligula, used to stage stuff like that. And real people, slaves, died in the process.

Tell u what I'd do with a million feathers... three chicks at the same time

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Where is the wax?

Rubbing a dead bird all over your naked body is a good way to get a disease.

I'm sure those sexy naked womenfolk will take away the pain

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, why are his wing's still intact? Is this depicting a post-escape nap?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember seeing this piece for the first time and being confused because the wings are not made of wax but feathers instead. Still am.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wax binding feathers together, not made of wax themselves

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah well I was a kid back then and only remembered that melting wax was the downfall of the guy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's cool! I was just letting you know.

He should've watched vultures flying. Then he would've gotten it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

genuinely one of my favorite artists :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow...thats pretty spectacular

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You piece of shit who makes wings out of wax you idiot you moron

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

If I remember rightly, the feathers were dropped by the birds that daedalus fed at the window, and the wax was from candles.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hey, the wax was working fine til the guy flew them outside the specified safe zones.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He didn't, they were made of feathers. They were held together with wax. It's a bit difficult to find craft materials locked in a tower.

Isn't real art just amazing? I mean, it's beautiful, meaningful, and thought provoking. Not garish and vulgar like "modern art".

9 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 34

Not all modern art is bad. I think you are talking about abstract art, which I don't like, but if people like it who are we to judge.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

But on the other hand most famous art now are just elitist and minupliates to make more money. Still art is subjective; it's people's option

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why don't you look up Thomas Kinkade, a modern painter who I suspect will be right up your alley?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I take it you're not a fan of Piss Christ and other modern "masterpieces"?

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 4

If he hadn't called it "Piss Christ", it might have been acceptable, however, the goal of such a work is subversive not uplifting.

I literally just got done studying for my European Art History class, starting in 18th century France

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

You've been studying for three centuries?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What school?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Arkansas University

Shouldn't his wings be all melty and stuff?

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Adamantium wings .. dah

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it was the wax bindings to the back instead of the actual wings

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Does not change the fact that they are still on him.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still attached to his arms with nothing on the base means flapping is ineffective

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like that there's an argument on the legitimacy of the flight mechanics in an artistic representation of mythology.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair point. Lol
