Guys, I went down today to help. The dead animals were already removed a couple of days ago. There were still many dead rats around the compound. The stench could be smelled when I turned onto the road.

I think they said something like 350 dogs. Your mind has a hard time conceiving what that looks like. I've seen it and still can't believe what that looks like. It's unreal.

There was a literal warehouse filled with cats. OP is allergic so I can't tell you what the conditions were in there but the smell was horrific.

Random guy named Steve and I spent the whole day putting tarps over all the kennels and tying them off. Now all the dogs have shade and some protection from the rain. A crew of other folks cleaned everything they could get to, fed and watered all those dogs.

Plenty of good folks have donated supplies so they have food for a while.

The place is still being treated as an active crime scene so we had to get permission to do most things. This is why they aren't adopting or transferring any of the animals yet. I got the feeling the cops didn't want us there but the mayor was insistent that the suffering had to be mitigated.

The whole place is in shambles. The bathrooms were not fit for humans and we were instructed to go down the road to a visitor center if we needed to use the facilities.

If you want a new pet, adopt. I met lots of good boys and girls today. The only one who bit me was scared to death and I was in his space.
