Largest brain of carnivores? Only land dwelling maybe? I would have guessed those of orcas and sperm whales are larger.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Besides, 300g (for comparison) is only 0.6 lbs. I think their sources are a little incorrect. But can't find any other numbers on tigers

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But... But.... Kitty!!! I just want to snuggle ALL of them

11 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 5

I wonder if the kid who put a mask on the back of his head got laughed at until people realized it worked

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

People suck.

11 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

As a kinten, I agree.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Black panther isn't a species, it's melanistic jaguars or leopards(both count), white tigers aren't either, it's a captivity bred mutation.

11 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

The mutation for white tigers is exceedingly rare in the wild, and a recessive gene, almost all that ever were have been bred by inbreeding.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

#2 - They're the largest *natural* big cats. Ligers are much larger, topping out around 1000 lbs/450 kg, but are only bred in captivity.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

What? 300 thousands 700 pounds is greater than just 1000 pounds!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Haha I saw that too.... 300k...I'm like, that's a big ole kitty!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the kind of stuff PETA needs to be doing. Not some bullshit wool campaign.

11 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

But where is the cat tax?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There has been at least one tiger cub in there. Give OP a break.

Woah woah! Wait. What predators?

I can't unsee this. Lol

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's hilarious, but I'm still trying to decide if I need an adult xD

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As soon as I got to the Siberian tiger that you called a white tiger, I discredited this entire post..

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think only Bengals carry the trait for the white color. It's only when Siberians are crossed with Bengals when they can be white. Still +1

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL Tigers are gentlemen. Good on you, Los Tigres.

This is a Lassann post though..

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Thank you for pointing that out :)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I made a post a couple weeks ago. In fact, two. With source and FACTS! But it got little attention and wasn't worth me doing another.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've had the same problem several times. It sucks people believe these made up "facts" so easily.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah I leave home for 4 months and my cat did not remember me, then again my cat hates everyone.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Little known fact: Tigers love tuna and consider tuna sandwiches a delicious treat. They are also part of an elite group named G.R.O.S.S.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Thank you! I was about to comment on the Calvin & Hobbes-ish hug picture #11. Lets play some Calvinball, or build snowmen!

Instead if using a rock for scale try using a banana. Now I have no idea what size his/her paws are.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#15 is wrong, unless you mean LAND carnivores. The largest brain among carnivores is the sperm whale, and the second is the orca.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Clearly you are not using enough of your memory, silly human.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best animal on earth. Fuck poachers.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Now do one about ligers, the beasts of the animal world.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

kind of hard to be the beast of the animal world, when it only lives in captivity.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They're pretty much my favorite animals. They're renowned for their skills in magic.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

You got a couple of factual errors in your post OP, about white tigers(inbred mutation, not a subspecies), and black panthers.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

chill Napoleon

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Black panthers aren't a species either, it's melanistic jaguars and leopards(both count), and it's the jaguar that doesn't mind baths.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, because Ligers aren't a species. They were created by man and have many deformities as a result.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

White Tigers rarely occur naturally as they are produced ONLY through inbreeding.

11 years ago | Likes 452 Dislikes 9

Thank you. For being tiger facts should have been a fact!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is misleading. It's not that inbreeding inherently produces white tigers. It just increases the chances of obtaining one.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't most of them have Downs Syndrome from the inbreeding?

11 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 4

It's not most of them. Most do have problems though (stillborn, fatal diseases, other deformities). We have one that has crossed eyes (1)

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

but he is otherwise very healthy. (Our tigers do not breed. We have our white tiger neutered. We just have them on display.)

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I was actually ok with this post until I got to 21.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Incorrect-White is the recessive dilute of the natural red color of tigers... it's a rare recessive gene. Inbreeding is done to reproduce it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds "natural" to me. Especially given the rather vague definition of "natural" in science.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't even get me started on the phrases "natural selection" and "naturally occurring". They're used so stupidly.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's as if somebody forgot all about the notion of spontaneity and the discovery that flies don't just magically appear from rotten food.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's as if somebody forgot all about the notion of spontaneity and the discovery that flies don't just magically appear from rotten food.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bottom line: If you're gonna call something natural, define the fucking term first.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came down to the comments to point this out. Thanks for saving me the trouble. :)

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No camouflage!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also cause its harder for them to live since being white= no camouflage

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Serious question- why does orange work as camoflage?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snow?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Odds are they aren't in a snowy area, they're rare after-all.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Inbreeding is usually the way you get odd colored animals of any species.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

even if it were natural, they would naturally die in the wild cus white is horrible camouflage.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

If they were white-skinned, would they not be in snow-capped areas like the snow leopard...?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bengals are the only tigers that have been proven to throw whites (1 in 10,000 or something), they live in the jungle. White rly bad there.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

obviously i'm talking about tigers in their natural habitat. white works great for animals living in snow.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

VERY important distinction. Every white tiger anyone has seen is due to in humane inbreeding and it is NOT some sort of endangered animal.

11 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 2

Every one except the first one, which was a wild capture, IIRC. But it's a rare mutation and the gene is recessive.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Exactly! All others were inbred with it to try to bring the gene out, messing up other genes along with it, giving them horrible problems :(

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I doubt the Tigers consider breeding "inhumane"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Inbreeding is inhumane to the offspring who often have severe health problems.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Don't talk about people from Kentucky and West Virginia like that.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

We do it to dogs. I have expressed my disgust at pugs etc for making an animal that inherently has a difficult/uncomfortable life.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This needs to be shared more. Also the fact that they were inbred for money, not conservation.

11 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 2

Yes. This.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Read as conversation. It does make for good conversation, though.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Also "black panther" is not a species.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Panther basically means any melanistic big cat.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"ocelli" is Latin for "little eyes", in case you were wondering. Oculus = eye; ocellus = little eye; ocelli because plural.

11 years ago | Likes 622 Dislikes 0

I feel like you maybe Stephen Fry

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah thank you :) I was bugged it wasn't mentioned in the comment.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say you're a nerd but we all are and I thank you for this tidbit of information.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was indeed wondering, thank you for quenching my curiosity!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister, a PhD in literature, says Hi and wants to know if you're single.

11 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 1

Another word for "ocellus" is "ocellana", which comes from "ocellus+'-ana', the feminine form of '-anus', a Latin singular noun suffix.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, the word "window" comes from Old Norse 'vindr' wind + 'auga' eye, which traces its way back to Latin oculus. And 'wind' from 'vindr'.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"Sister" sureeeeeeeee

11 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I wish I had a PhD!

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

You only need a Ph, I got the D right here ;-)

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

So ocelot would be lots of eyes?

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Many small eyes. Checks out

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wonder if they have the same effect as the men wearing masks on other tigers...

It also has a purpose. It helps cubs recognize their mother in brush and follow her. (I spend too much time at the zoo).

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So even tigers have fake eyes to look at other tigers?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

are you a part of the Illuminati?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stop killing the tigers!!! Stupid poachers =/

11 years ago | Likes 822 Dislikes 11

Humans, stop breeding so much and pushing all known wildlife out of their natural habitats.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And encroaching on territory due to population increase as well

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Don't forget to tell people to stop buying the crap poachers are selling. Poachers only poach because buyers exist.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a cultural thing, like the Balinese thinking that tigers are evil. Uneducated people will make uneducated decisions. :c

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 4

you did it! i think your comment just discouraged all the poachers in the world! nice!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Petition to allow hunting for poachers.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

They do allow hunting for poachers. My bud was on a guided trip for Cape Buffalo, and his guide instantly shot @ the poacher they ran across

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Blame locals #19 such as farmers as well as poachers. Also, fucking voodoo medicine, especially in china, has caused several extinctions.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Education is the only way to stop it. China and Vietnam and other oriental countries are big on "ancient remedies" which are complete BS

11 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 2

The thing that sucks is when many of whom are told what they caught &/or killed is endangered or close to they feel so much remorse over it

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Not only that. There is huge demand from China from really rich people for the pelts etc.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Stop consuming uncertified grown palm oil! Push the big companies to source from responsible growers.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It's not just poachers. Regular human beings are doing it as well. People continue to move further and further into tiger territory and->

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

kill the tigers for "endangering" them or eating their livestock. Boo, people suck :( We destroy everything in our path >.>

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Poachers are not the problem, it's rich folk who buy tiger remains. Poachers will easily risk their lives for 30 to 150k USD prize.

11 years ago | Likes 207 Dislikes 5

This is unpopular, but I would easily kill a tiger for 150k if I had the chance, I am a bad person.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Plus poachers probaly dont know the impact of their crimes

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

pretty much, if there was no demand, than no need. which is why we need to educate.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Better learned you some Chinese then, girl.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Back then though it was both Poachers and ultra-religious/uneducated people simply afraid of the animal due to their belief system

I got to cuddle a tiger once, in a zoo in Thailand. The tigers cub was in a 1x1m cage behind the scenery for photo. It was mostly sad. >

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tigers and black rhinos may well completely die out in our lifetimes.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've come to kind of expect that from any tiger related post sadly.

11 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Tiger numbers in India actually increased last year. :)
