It is difficult because the american political climate has spent decades slowly normalizing the idea that things like "is it ok for police to execute you under suspicion of crime" and "is someone wearing clothes that don't match their perceived gender a threat to your safety" as topics of political difference.
They'll paint you as the bad guy for violently defending yourself, meanwhile they're hoping to use rhetoric and political power to enact systemic violence against you.
