Ask yourself, how does facebook make money? It is selling your data, all the intimate details of your life, it is selling *you* to the highest bidder. *You* are the product facebook sells to corporations that want to manipulate you with advertising.
What do you get out of it? Closer contact with your racist uncle you don't even like? So you can watch humanity devolve into echo chambers and arguments?

Stopped using FB in 2016 when the politics of the day gave it a frighteningly toxic vibe. I didn't like what I saw it doing to me, my friends, or my family.
I haven't missed it once in the last ten years. You won't miss twitter when you choose to leave it, either.

As bad as it was before (and it wasn't good), the fact is that it got noticeably worse when Trump got elected. Hate and lies skyrocketed in posts. Constant display of human stupidity. I was pretty much only there to keep up with what my extended family and my friends were doing, but it wasn't worth it. Quit and haven't looked back. It hasn't been tough at all. I feel no need to go there.

Facebook‘s refusal to do anything at all about scammers pretending to be celebrities to rip off old people is shocking. My mom has fallen for a couple and I have reported the absolute hell out of them, but they won’t take them down or do anything. The only message I got was that, “the reported page, Elon Musk investments, has not violated any terms of service.” THEY ARE LITERALLY STEALING FROM THE ELDERLY. BLATANTLY.

I think it gave me a substantial advantage in terms of mental health to cope with the last 6 years that i quit and retired my facebook account in 2012 just right before they got their grubby little hands on whatsapp.

I got banned for "Cyber security" (I was moderating a large group and was spamming our support Discord). Due to them having close to no workers who speak Norwegian, THEY didn't have time to handle my appeal within THEIR 180 day limit, so it got automatically permabanned becayse THEY didn't have resources to read the appeal. I really don't miss it, now I have an excuse to not have my family annoy the shit out of me online, hehe.

The day Trump took the oath of office the first time, I deleted FB as he was on stage. The day he took the oath the second time, I deleted Instagram. Never been happier.

I quit Facebook 2 year ago after they wanted a video of my head turning side to side. Facebook is lockstep with palantir and has been feeding your pictures into its surveillance systems so when you speak out against the administration, ai can find you instantly through flock cameras and satellites

I got hacked there ONCE and it was probably a decade ago. This year they tried forcing me into a 2 factor authorization. Let me think if I want to give them an additional email or phone number. Nope. DELETED and couldn't be happier about the decision.

I only logged into it from a separate browser from what I used for everything else and in private mode. Ran adblock plus (2016ish?) with all the "anti-social" lists on all browsers. They flagged my account as suspicious activity over and over till I just deleted it.

Sure except for the part where those platforms(facebook, insta, x, etc) deliberately prop up right wing propaganda that stirs up hatred and stupidity. So no, its not really just the users, its the platforms themselves and how they're designed to maintain engagement.

Main disturbing thing about Facebook is the whole lack of anonymity. At least on 4chan, you assumed that people were only saying that shit because no one would no what they looked like. But on Facebook and Instagram, they don't care. They'll say the most unhinged shit imaginable with their profile pic front and center

This shit has always been with us; the problem is that publicly no one stomped these insects back under the rocks where they came from and open hatred became normalized. If imgur is considered social media, this is it for me. I couldn't give a rat fart about fake friends on facebook or anywhere else. I've never even bothered with so called social media (facebook, X, insta, snap chat) none of that shit is very social.
