TL;DR: 1. Get fire extinguishers. 2. Pull the pin. 3. Aim at the bottom of the fire. 4. Squeeze the metal handles.

Tell all adults and children over 10 in your house where they are and teach them how to use them:

1. Pull the pin.
2. Aim at the base of the fire.
3. Squeeze the metal handles.

Teach everyone to GET OUT FAST. Smoke poisoning is fast, and it impairs your ability to move and think. It is far better to get out.

LEAVE WHEN THE FIRE IS SMALL. DO NOT WAIT.

Many home fires start in the garage because people store oil & cleaning supplies & their naughty mistresses in there.

Keep fire extinguishers in your kitchen, garage and on every level - within 21 feet (7 meters) of every room.

If you have a secret tiki room with tiki torches put 2 fire extinguishers in there. Teach your secret, sexy Bahaman, tiki bartender how to use fire extinguishers and how to make piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris.

They expire, then they don't work. Check the tags often.

Have a good day!

Instructions unclear, i now have expired piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris stationed around the house close to every room.

Do NOT store your kitchen fire extinguisher in a cabinet ABOVE the stove. If you have a fire on the stove, you won't be able to reach it.

Or you know water...it ain't a chemical or electrical fire so a bucket and some water lol

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

7 meters ≈ 23 feet

21 feet ≈ 6.4 metres or 10.7 washing machines

My building caught fire from something electrical in a storage unit. Very stressful night and following days. Mutual lease termination.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ok.... what's step three already?

We had a house fire almost 3 years ago and that was the scariest thing I've ever been through in my life. Fire ain't no joke!

Burn in hell, ancestors.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also, use the correct extinguisher. Powder will work for almost anything, but it costs more to clean up than the damage the fire does.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Use it for saving lives, not for saving property. That's what foam and water is for.

Yes, which is why I said to use powder for saving lives.

90% of the problems in my life are caused by the fact that I find this woman very attractive.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

TIL sober and bored is a bad combination.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm saved by the fact that these women don't find me attractive. Lucky me!

But what happens if the fire extinguisher itself is on fire?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You get the fire-extinguisher-extinguisher, d'uh!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You just put it with the rest of the fire.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Always 1 per floor in the house, 1 in each car. Fire be scary!

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

By the time we could have gotten to ours with an extinguisher the smoke would have killed us.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easier to escape a car than fight a fire. I pay insurance

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

In a crash you might need it, (or people around you might). And thats probably the most likely way for a fire to start in a car.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instructuons unclear: One fire per floor of house and one fire in each car.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Exactly

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You won't save your car. Just bail.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bail water?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not meant to save the car, it's meant to possibly buy some time to get someone out that is unable to do so on their own.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fire safety stick is a lot better option than an extinguisher. https://firesafetystick.com/

Pick up your fire extinguisher and shake it around every now and again. It will help prevent the powder from caking up and not flowing.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Under normal conditions, when shaking the extinguisher, would you expect to hear the powder moving?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you can. Some are made with thin steel and just have a sticker. Others are made of thicker alloys and have coats of paint.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I duno about hear, but you can certainly feel it.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Could not hear or feel any movement. Although the needle is still in the green, going to take it as this needs replacement. Thank you!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah that seems to be the case with the cheap ones. Also BRB I don't recall when I last checked mine.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huh, mine doesn't have a manufacture or an expire date. But it's at least a couple years old and the needle is barely above the line.

My tip is keep them in sight. You don't want to go under the counter to quickly extinguish something and it not be in that spot

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ran to this one, dead sprint with a fire extinguisher, good thing I’m not faster, the propane tanks-

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-exploded about half way there, felt that one in my chest… careful what you run into.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why would you even risk your safety? A fire extinguisher isn’t intended to put out a fire that big

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

this was what I saw first, grabbed a wool blanket and extinguisher, I was more worried about a forest fire.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It would have been my home, the forest, who knows how many others..

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd like to think the fire was smaller, and the pic is post propane explosion, but maybe they are insane.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I saw it from a distance, soo I assumed it was a car accident.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It does give me a thought to stay away from burning RVs. Most of them have a couple of propane tanks.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mmm, yelled at my buddy to call 911 and bolted, might be a bit crazy, i’m not apologizing for it though ;)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All great info. Everyone should have and know how to use extinguishers. We practice with extinguishers yearly. Eveyone should 1/

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

practice at least once. When your extinguishers expire, use them and a small bowl of gasoline to practice putting out fires.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey! I was drinking that bowl of gasoline!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can still have it when we're done. It'll be sprinkled with white powder though

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mmm sprinkles

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except don't use gasoline for your test fire. Chances are people gonna get a bunch of fumes and detonate it in your face.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

We always use gasoline, it's not going to detonate in an open bowl

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

PASS - Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep

I'd rather just PASS

DDDDD - Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Most people AIM at the flame, though, if not taught otherwise. PASS teaches all the bits everyone gets right and misses the bit they don't.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Most people SWEEP the floor, not the air, so this bit is covered. I know most bits I get right I learned from PASS.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Be sure to practice at some point, too. Use almost expired extinguishers on a contained fire outdoors. Gotta replace them, anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

For small fires they make spray cans. Looks like a can of hairspray, sprays the same way. They cost like $8-10 and fit anywhere!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Neat. Never heard of those before. I think my small kitchen extinguisher was about 20 or 25.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They’re with the fire extinguishers at home hardware stores now. I got one incase I have a very small fire, less solution to clean up.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, where AM I supposed to store my naughty mistress then, Mr Fancy Pants?

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

In the secret room with the 3d printed naughty toys and the fire extinguisher.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

naw cant. if the wife goes in there for the extinguisher im fuuuucked.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, that is the goal, is it not?
